Thank God we weren't staying there. Like Joseph B., I came to hike. I mistakenly assumed this whole area is flat, and that's what I told the 9 other people in my party. I should have looked at a few more links because almost immediately there were short but steep hills - about 10 in succession just for the first 5 miles. And that's about as far as we got before we turned back. We were exhausted, but it was worth it. Even the three marathon runners in our group said it was a good workout. Start at the W. Juniper Point trailhead, not Cedar Bayou Marina, or you will miss some of the better lake views from the trail. You can follow the trail markers to Lost Loop or cut through the Marina and continue on the Loop on the west side of the Marina. Start early because it gets pretty hot mid-day in March. I'm so excited to find good hikes in N. Texas.

This park is over 700 acres, with about half of it being for off-roading (Jeeps, etc), and about…read morehalf being for hiking and mountain biking. The off roading trails have been open for years, but the hiking trails just opened up in March 2018 and I'm kicking myself that we hadn't checked this place out sooner. The park itself is in between Bridgeport and Chico, off of 101, but is closer to Bridgeport. It's set pretty far back off 101, but is clearly marked with signage, and easy to find. The parking lot was clean & large, with port-a-potties, trash can, picnic tables, and a map of the park available. Right off the parking lot was an entrance to the Butterfield Trail, with complimentary walking sticks available to assist you, which I thought was a really lovely, thoughtful touch. Since it was our first time here, though, and we had the kids with us, we tried out the shortest, easiest trail available: the Oil Rig. The pathways were well-marked and easy to follow. The "easy" hike was truly easy, more of a nature walk than a hike. It was perfect for the time of day and the company we had. My daughter called everything "fairy" this or that because between the light and how beautiful the landscape was, it really was magical. All in all, it was a perfect experience and we can't wait to go back and try another trail.

Perfect secluded trail that has little traffic from hikers. There are plenty of loops around, I went straight east and down towards the lake then took a loop trail back to the parking. About 2.5 miles was what I did. A good amount of random bugs flying around a few days after it rained. No contact with anything other then bugs. I would recommend wearing pants of long socks since there is some tall grass overshadowing the trails. There was little trash.(Keep it that way Texas!) Maybe I would go back to walk some other loops.

SMH BUT when we finally did get there the lady that works the entrance booth (Betty ?) was soooo sweet !! I'm just barely getting back into walking and wanted a nice easy "hike" and we found just that! We also found the houses that are all located in one section. Was fun to explore that.

We've seen many articles online talking about this seemingly eerie place and decided to visit…read moreyesterday afternoon. We thought it was a much bigger forest but it wasn't small either, it was big enough. We explored mostly to the right side of the forest but saw people walking back out from the left. We spotted a cow towards the left that's why we didn't head that way. The tall trees were lined up like we've seen in pictures but there was not much else to see. It was an interesting sight to see nonetheless. Makes you wonder why the trees were planted in such a fashion. It was a nice and cool walk around under the trees too! On the way back out, the cow decided to start moving slowly and eventually blocked our way out of the forest. The husband and I slowly moved in the opposite direction and made as little noise as possible telling each other not to move suddenly or talk too loudly. The cow kept moving and eventually cleared our path. Phew ..... LoL ... Well that was fun if it wasn't for the cow!

We come here often to go for a walk and get exercise or bring our dog to the park. The walking path…read moreis shaded in some spots and sunny in others. You can see some pretty greenery in the spring and summer. There's a little stream and a walking bridge that you can go over. There's a dog park for small dogs and big dogs. Sometimes I notice people in the small dog park with large dogs, so we are not able to go in. Little annoying. Most of the people do not pick up their dog's poop along the trail. Good to go for a nice summer day for outdoor activities.

They even placed a pecan sheller for those tht harvest them. The trail winds thru the trees and behind done neighborhoods. This section is approximately 2+ miles and winds along soldier creek. It is fully paved with a slight grade in some areas. It is totally wheelchair accessible. As always just pay attention to your surrounding.
