We stayed for 2 nights in our trailer at the Elephant Rock campground and loved it! The concrete pads have all utilities, plenty of room to stretch out with trees for shade and privacy. We were in space 25 which was at the end for privacy. The water is pretty and looks calm. We paid $20 per night for seniors. There's a laundry area with 2 washers and 2 dryers for $1.00 each. There's a boat ramp too if you happen to have a boat. There are showers too but nothing fancy. We would definitely stay again.

It's no secret how much I love summer at Lake Murray State Park. I live for summer. Getting to wear your swimsuit all day long every day. Frolicking in the water, swimming, BBQing, then more swimming, jet skiing, boating, cruising the lake just to feel the wind in your hair & the hot sun on your face while you pretend your a pirate on your pirate ship. Arrrrrr! Lol Eating red & blue popsicles till your tongue looks like a smurf on fire. Having the time to read several books a week & flip thru every fashion magazine while you lounge by the pool. Sleeping till noon & staying up late round the bonfire under the stars with your friends shooting tequila & partying way later than Taco Bells late night menu is available. Summer knows not time. Its all about becoming vagabonds of space drifting timelessly, thats why it's called 'summer vacation' ;) However, fall is my absolute favorite time of year at Lake Murray. In the fall the beaches become vacant & the playgrounds empty. The lake is a dead calm & not a boat in sight. The leaves change their colors as they slowly fall to the ground. The paths thru the woods vanish beneath the leaves as the lake becomes visible thru the leafless trees. The only sounds are the sounds of the geese flying over the lake. It becomes a whole new world. As I was hiking around the other day all I could think of, like a broken record over & over, was the late Stanley Kunitz's poem, 'End of Summer'. "An agitation of the air, A perturbation of the light Admonished me the unloved year Would turn on its hinge that night. I stood in the disenchanted field Amid the stubble and the stones, Amazed, while a small worm lisped to me The song of my marrow-bones. Blue poured into summer blue, A hawk broke from his cloudless tower, the roof of the silo blazed, and I knew that part of my life was over. Already the iron door of the north Clangs open: birds, leaves, snows Order their population forth, And a cruel wind blows." Lake Murray State Park is not just for Summer. It is even a more wondrous place in autumn. When I finished my hike I went to see the progress of the new lodge & boat storage buildings that are being built & how far along they are on the construction. The sun was setting, the afternoon light was just right & it was there I caught a glimpse of natures splendor. There in the water was the mirrored image off the lake of Tucker Tower, piercing the blue skies, surrounded by natures stunning show of colorful fall foliage. It was forever inspiring, from the rich & vibrant hues, to the chill in the air, it whispered to me its secrets. As one season withers & dies another is reborn, leaving us only with it's prodigious blessings. Highly recommend.

My first visit to the lake. We drove straight to Tucker Tower and took the tour. No better way to view the lake for the first time. I was blown away at the stunning views of the lake! So thankful that I got to view this gorgeous tower and lake. Will definitely be back soon with my family.

I grew up camping and swimming near Tucker Tower and Group Camp 3, and can't imagine any state lake that I like better than good old Lake Murray.

You're a bit at the mercy of whoever is there. A lot of people were there for the day backed up to a covered spot and blaring music. There was a depressing amount of trash around. The castles are neat and after doing some web searching we found some history about them (not offered by the park itself which is odd). Some areas feel pretty unsafe. The store just sells towels, $2 water shoes for $20 and life vests. No swimming allowed today (it's still winter and because of flooding) but a lot of people were in various areas of the river. The bathrooms were spread around the upper areas and I think mostly for campers and cabin folks. No one is policing anything though. The ports potties were rank.

I just realized I forgot to add the prices so I was lazy and copied this. However, we were VERY disappointed in two things: 1) The cabins are old and unkept. We had a hole in the wall near the front door and daylight showing under the front door. The entire cabin was filled with ants. They were on the floor, walls, and ceiling. Every hour I was running around squashing ants. We had to hang everything on hooks/hangers or leave it in the car. Water leaked from underneath the tile in front of the shower. The staff said the State has the money to renovate, but they keep delaying it. So sad to lose customers because they won't spend the money to update it. 2) The pet fee is $40 per day per pet. We had 2 dogs totaling 22 pounds. There was NO extra work on behalf of the staff after we left. Most place charge a deposit that is refundable if there is no damage. They should review their pet policy and consider reducing or eliminating the fee and instead having a refundable deposit. With $80/night for the dogs and $110+ for the cabin, we could have stayed in a nice VRBO home with a fenced backyard and without bugs.

Apparently, the powers that be have figured out that they can make more money off day users by charging $10 / day for a parking permit. Our pass was included with our cabin. Our cabin had many creature comforts. Air conditioning, cold but too loud to sleep with (cycling on and off every few minutes), cable tv, full size fridge, cooktop and microwave. Choice of 1 big bed or 2 little ones. Nice bathroom, too. Towels and bedding are provided and daily cleaning is offered, but we declined and lived in our own squalor, lol. Due to the corona bug, the pots, plates, utensils, etc. were no longer provided. Not sure why these things couldn't have been left with a suggestion that we wash them before using them. Fortunately, we have a camp box with those items, ready to travel. Outside, we had a picnic table, a bbq grill and a fire ring. The grill was about what you expect at a public p k-9ark, with wide gaps and it was really nasty, so I grilled our burgers on a sheet of aluminum foil. Yum! We also brought firewood with us, but there are places nearby where you can buy some. I also brought a smudge pot with citronella scented oil in case the mosquitoes were a problem, but there were only a few of those pests. There are plenty of places to explore in the park and the beautiful lake to enjoy. Break out of your seclusion and reep the benefits of this safe spot to recharge your batteries.

Location wise it can get a little confusing. There are several campgrounds spread throughout. I stayed at the campground The Point. It was was small but relatively well-organized, and far away from everything to be peaceful and close enough that we weren't far away from exploring the local town as well. The point also let's you have pets stay. We took our two dogs who seemed to thoughtless enjoyed being out with us. Each plot on The Point is reservable Online, or self-serve pay station. I would say to reserve, as the weekend on a non-holiday it was completely full. There are plots that have water and electric hook-ups. The plot we were on had none, but was the cheapest at $16 a night. Each plot also comes with its own personal parking spot. Our's had a fire. Pit and a bench with an extension. At the Point there are a few non-plumbed facilities as well as one facility with plumbing and showers. Each bathroom of the plumber facilities has its own shower, plus a section of just a single shower with no bathroom. There are plenty of spots to go. Fishing areas are at each of the campgrounds. In addition, there are boat drop off areas, and places to swim in the lake. Unfortunately, no pets are not allowed in the lake or east of Travertine area which is in the northeastern section of the park. In the end, it was a fun and simple time, and will be planning my trips here on a monthly basis b

This summer we decided to rent a boat instead. BIG MISTAKE!! I owner (an older woman) was argumentative and rude as she was telling us the rules and regulations of the boat. She asked my husband (who has owned a boat for 20+ years) to sign statements ensuring the boat was in proper working order, when my husband asked if he could first SEE the boat before signing the papers she responded with, "if you give me attitude you will not get the boat!" Because we had three young sons eagerly awaiting the boat ride we brushed her comments off and continued with the paperwork. She used abusive language and her attitude began to get worse. She told us to follow her to look at the boat. I grabbed the boat checklist and asked if I should take it with me or if there was one on the boat....she then bit my head off telling me my attitude was unacceptable. She did this as we were paying HER $500 to rent a boat. My husband and I finally had enough. We told her we did not like her attitude and we did not want to rent a boat from her. She cussed us and told us to leave. Upon leaving we called our credit card company and asked if she took the $500 charge off the account. When we found out she didn't, my husband called her. She cussed him calling him a D*CK, and telling him that she was tired of dealing with his stupid a&&. In 30+ years I have never dealt with a business owner with this hideous attitude. Upon checking there are bad reviews all over every internet site about this business. Please don't rent from, buy anything or trade with these people. They are giving the wonderful town of Sulphur a bad name!
