Through the "Festival of Food" program was how I discovered this gem many moons ago. It has a fantastic view and is situated at the Windy Point Lookout, as the suggests. The service here keeps the bar high in the hospitality industry. Everyone appreciate that friendly and knowledgable staff is worth their weight in gold and this establishment gets a tick from me. We were here for the Festival of Food preview, the official program kicks off in May. Our food journey begins with the housemade ciabatta with red pepper butter. Our entree tasting plate comprised of crocodile chipolata with a sweet potato harissa, thornby lamb shoulder, ras el hanout, saag aloo with a spinach puree. They were all good except for the lamb. Not a fan of red meat, I gave my share away. The main attraction arrived and they were beautifully plated. I had the barramundi with battered mussels accompanied by a fennel and orange salad. The skordalia paste completed the dish. The barramundi was perfection. Simply melted in my mouth. The salad contrasted nicely against the heaviness of the battered mussels and the richness of the fish. The other girls both had red meat. One had the kangaroo and the other had the steak. Both were happy with how their meat were cooked. We ordered some fat chips to share and did not regret our decision. They were super crunchy and filled a void on a cold Autumn night. As part of the Festival of Food, our dining experience was completed by the arrival of petit fours (French for small oven, is usually a small confectionary or savoury appetizer). Ours included nutella puffs and lemon, lime & butters marshmellows. Interesting take on the original marshmellow, however I could have lived without it, personally. The puffs were average, nothing of note here. The girls did opt for desserts as well. One enjoyed the tasting plate immensely. The other not so much. The consistency of the panna cotta was too hard, not well executed it seems. As Meatloaf would bellow, "two out of three ain't bad". Despite the disappointment of our desserts, our entrees and mains were spot on. The desserts will not deter our return and we are happily looking forward to our next treat at this fabulous establishment.

I made a booking through the festival of food which gave a particular deal which was $31 for bread, Entre, main course and a dessert tasting plate (such good value). We had the one waitress for the night and she was very friendly, asking us with every course whether we were happy with the food and giving a description of each course. I didn't even mention it was my 21st when I booked but sure enough when dessert came out they had a birthday message written for me. The Entre was comprised of three delicious bite sized portions, crocodile chipolata, thornby lamb shoulder and saag aloo. The lamb shoulder was particularly good and just melted in your mouth. Following on from that really all the meat served to us was cooked to perfection, at our table someone had the kangaroo which was done well, a steak was ordered which was asked to be medium well done and came out just as they wanted and the chicken breast did not have a hint of dryness to it. Afterwards we were asked if we wanted to order dessert but the mains were so big that we didn't have the room! 10/10 windy point cafe is definitely worth your money!

I think this is a really great thing for Aldgate. Kind of stepping up and showing the Community it is ok to change your image. I hope that a lot of the neighbouring businesses take note. For too long has the Adelaide Hills been old and outdated. Over the last 5 years we have seen some impressive changes. This is one of them. The décor inside is really well planned. All the colours work together, green being their spark of colour. And certain little touches of green are really clever. For example, I brought my dogs along to the café and I was handed two green bones on a plate for them to enjoy! How sweet is that? Do you know any other cafes that offer your pups a treat? Not many that is for sure! The menu is simple, but well thought out. I ordered the DIY Brekkie, which you have poached eggs and toast as the base and you can add other items. I decided on haloumi and avocado. Eggs were cooked prefect. But only one slice of bread? It was quite a costly meal of over $20, so I thought I would get two slices at least. Oh well... My partner tried the truffle scrambled eggs. Which I thought was much better value. So much flavour and cooked really well. Fluffy and not overdone! I am glad to see this café in Aldgate. I don't mind paying for quality, however, I think it is a tad outrageous to charge customers $12 for two eggs on toast or $23 for smashed avocado which came with two eggs. Getting over the initial shock, we queued up to order. It was the longest wait for the amount of people in the line. Not sure why the staff taking the orders was so slow. It became apparent that a second staff was needed. Food came intermittently, which is understandable as we didn't order together. Having said that, one of the ladies who ordered first had to wait till everyone received their food before hers came. Hangry would aptly described her emotions. The food was delicious! I had the croque monsieur. Never heard of it before, I took a gamble and was pleasantly surprised. Well, luckily we decided to drive the extra 17km to Birdwood because Pomegranate Cottage is a truly lovely place! They have a very cute outside garden, with a fountain and surrounded by lots of trees and flowers so on a sunny day it's probably the best place you can find in Birdwood for lunch. (Mind you the choice isn't that big either) Great setting, friendly service and a good selection of food, ranging from pies to salads, fish to meat and some sandwiches. I had the beef pie for $14, which came with a small salad (no dressing though) and fries. You could tell the pie was homemade and not coming from a freezer. Very tasty and in terms of size I think the dishes are alright for the prices they charge. One thing that bothered me very much though is that the waitress came clearing the plates of the 3 people that were with me while I was still eating. That's an absolute no-go and would be a reason for me not to go back. However, the food was very good so I still recommend the place.

Okay, it is not the cheapest place to go for a meal, but it has this really great atmosphere and it is certainly quite a relaxing place to enjoy a beer. In fact when I was doing some night course as the Bible college around the corner I would regularly stop here for a drink, and sometimes even drag my friends here afterwards for a bit of a night cap. For the dine in experience, the buzzer system alerting you that it's time to pick up your goods from the counter is impersonal but effective. The store is boasting some very trendy decor and is fitting in well with the many higher-end restaurants along Waymouth st. The vivid colours outside and inside the cafeteria, alongside with its harmonic decoration, provide a sense of positive energy that makes it ideal to relax and drink your coffee or tea. Interestingly, there is a small "library" inside the cafeteria with some nice books which provides a sense of "home". The service is truly amazing!!! The people working there are very friendly, smiley, welcoming and ready to assist you always. Of course this is something you would expect, nonetheless allow me to underline that such amazing service in Adelaide is really rare.!!! A variety of cold and hot drinks are provided, including cold and hot food. I enjoyed the "club sandwich", accompanied with corn chips. I often ride my bike down here from Glenelg and the ride is fabulous topped off by stopping for coffee at Joe's what could be better! Joe's is definitely an institution in Henley Beach, frequented by local celebrities and politicians having a quiet time out. Joe is a celebrity himself, everyone knows him and he certainly knows all the regulars. He loves to have a chat and put little Baci chocolates on the ladies coffees and gives out the odd chuppa chupp to the kid's of the regulars. Joe's daughter, Bianca, is delightful also and usually working in the cafe keeping Joe on track. The coffee is delicious and if you are into toasted sandwiches, his are the best I have ever tasted. The location is heaven, the beach here is pristine and, in summer there is a constant stream of people walking up the steps to order some refreshments. If you are looking for a place to have a coffee while the kids play safely on the beach this is as good as it gets. I love sitting at the outdoor tables soaking up the sun and atmosphere of the cafe and the beautiful surrounds. Word to the wise, in winter if the weather is bad Joe's is often closed as there is no indoor seating. Heaven on the beach.
