I lunched here with two friends on a Friday afternoon and Public had the music PUMPING which meant we shouted at each other for most of our time there. The menu is curious. A large element is taken up by 'Snacks' and then a few Pasta items and Meat items (one fish, one chicken, one ... you get the idea). I opted for the snack prawns and onion rings. They were divine eating. The onion rings themselves were enormous and generously salted; the prawns had a tasty charcoal edge. We also shared broccolini on the table which was crisp, dripping, and accompanied by crispy almonds. One companion had the salmon and seemed to enjoy that; our vegan friend had only the option of the pita and olives, sadly. The wine menu was populist, if that's the correct term. It contains a lot of South Australian favourites, few adventures, and is sure to be a crowd pleaser. What let the experience down was the service. I did expect this polished new restaurant to offer a sensational level of service, however attention was lacking and it was yet another Adelaide venue that didn't seem keen to sell us more drinks. More drinks! Please ask us if we want another drink! We also had to ask for our table to be cleared. We queued to pay the bill. I'm glad I've tried it, but won't go back again in a hurry. If Public pushed its staff to a standard of excellence (and turned down the muzak) it'd be a compelling place indeed.

The Chicken Burger was a stand out for me, let alone a business meeting killer. If you're trying to be serious this thing, with is soft bun, juicy crumbed chicken and lime mayo, will not let you be. It'll dribble, it'll slide, it'll squish and you are guaranteed to make a perfect mess of yourself. The chips were huge, mouth wateringly salty and the Public slaw was a nice refreshing ending to the meal. I am a tad conflicted though. The service was friendly and welcoming - I swear we had about 3 different waiters. Problem was that it was 1pm, there was no line up for lunch and yet I was asked 3 times within a period of 5 minutes if I was ready to order and then 3 times 15 mins later if I was finished my meal...A little too attentive maybe? This place is the higher end of a "casual lunch," and would be a wonderful spot for a special meal, lunch with clients and the like. Why? - The lunch menu of pastas, fish and meat mains and even their burgers were minimum $19 and above (but you are getting quality produce to boot). - The wines by the glass were on average $9 and above (and don't snort at the cheapest wine on the menu because it was devine). - You are treated with incredibly efficient and helpful service and you walk out stuffed with siesta-prompting fullness.

My partner ordered smashed avocado on toast, which he claimed was very good. What made it exceptional was that instead of just having pine nuts or so on top, it topped with dukka which gave it so much more life. I guess the only negative I have about this place is that the seats are a bit weird (theyre like little step ladders, so it makes it a bit awkward to sit down) but the staff were nice and the place had nice vibes in general.

It was a little pricey, but I have come to expect that from this part of Adelaide. What put me off was that the staff, while not bad, certainly weren't the best. I certainly have experienced better customer service (though you can forgive people for having a bad day). However, what I really didn't like was the tea - it had a really acidic bite to it, which made me realise why I don't actually drink tea when I'm in Adelaide. However, it does depend on the place you go to, and this certainly wasn't one of those places.

I did indulge in a glass or two of a lovely rose but was assured by my friend there were no carbs in that!!?!! The meal was delightful and we finished off with some great coffee. The only drawback, and here's my familiar complaint, was the toilet that looked like it was from the sixties. At least it was clean. The menu is extensive - a large, double-sided laminated sheet offers pastas, risottos, pizza, a good range of salads and plenty of sweet treats for after your meal. You order your food and drink at the counter and meals are delivered to your table. The service is fairly prompt, but I've got the impression the young staff can't wait for their shift to finish. Coffee is good and I sometimes grab a takeaway from here if Mooi's (cafe in the middle of the Mitcham Shopping Centre) is closed. (Soy milk is Vitasoy Cafe) They also do a movie meal deal which is well priced.

Tap water, glasses, and menus were waiting at the table and after an appropriate amount of time our order was taken and special requests confirmed. This place is really busy but it seems well managed; the staff is very attentive without being intrusive. As we waited for our order we noticed the bustling and efficient staff who worked like a well oiled machine - dirty dishes were quickly removed from tables, additional carafes of tap water were dropped off without being asked for, and patrons seemed relaxed, very happy, and satisfied. By meals' end we, too, were among those happy people. My husband ordered a sandwich that I struggle to recall the name ;( it was a hearty sandwich made from perfectly toasted sourdough, grilled chicken breast meat, swiss cheese, garlic aioli, a mix of tender and flavourful greens, and crispy bacon. It's a very tasty dish with all the flavors intertwined without being overpowering and with just the right mix. The roasted butternut squash was also great with macadamia nuts and miso mayo. I'm not a big fan of butternut squash, but I thought it was delicious. One thing I really like about this place is that they have a beautiful garden. You can go for a walk there after your meal and experience it.

Sweat off some onions, add can of chopped tomatoes and whack it on the schnitzel with some cheddar cheese. At least when I make it at home I try to spice it up a bit with some garlic, oregano, basil or even some chili in the sauce.
