Seeing as April is autism awareness month and my son is about to graduate from high school, I…read morethought it would be a good moment to reflect back on the treatment that we received from CDK. My son went there when he was about 8 to 10 years old. Looking back I wish that we had left there a lot sooner. This is right at the beginning of when we started to see my son having behaviors. Instead of treating him with kindness, compassion, and understanding, he was ostracized and often made to feel as if his behaviors were "wrong" in fact, instead of finding a way to help him feel better. Since leaving CDK, we have found wonderful therapists who have been kind and attentive, and have helped my son to find a way to communicate. His behaviors are few and far between now. Many times my therapist (coming in from her cigarette break) would call me aside and make me feel awful about my son's behaviors. We both left there several times in tears. Looking back at how far he has come I am incredibly proud of him. Being told that something was wrong with him by people who are supposed to care is truly disgraceful. This company claims that they care about the autism community. I can speak from firsthand experience that they certainly do not. As soon as my son wasn't "cute" anymore they decided he was a problem. Looking back I only wish that I had left there sooner. Sending love to all the autism families out there.

When my son started he was a shy quiet boy with a limited vocabulary. Not very expressive. With the help of Miss Ashley he became talkative, expressive, silly and so much more. I truly believe she helped him come out of his shell and feel comfortable expressing himself. My son felt really comfortable and truly enjoyed going to each session. They are a great team to work with. I dealt directly with Miss Ashley for any cancellations or rescheduling. When we started in the summer I didn't get the time slot that I wanted because I had to commute from school. But by the time school started there was a time slot that was better for me. So don't let the time slots discourage you from a great team. On that note when we started we worked with Samantha and she was equally as great. We will miss Ashley. We are eternally grateful for all the work Ashley and Samantha did for my son!!!

She has truly been a light throughout our special needs journey -- kind, patient, professional, and always believing in our daughter's potential. Thanks to Ms. Jess' guidance, our daughter's receptive language has blossomed. She understands so much more and engages with the world around her in beautiful new ways. We continue to work together on expressive communication, and every step forward is a victory we celebrate together. What sets Ms. Jess apart is her genuine dedication. She goes above and beyond to learn more about our daughter's AAC device and Proloquo software, making sure she can communicate in ways that feel natural and empowering. She takes time to individualize every activity and helps us as parents feel confident continuing those strategies at home. Ms. Jessica's compassion, creativity, and commitment make her one in a million. For any family seeking an exceptional speech therapist who truly cares, I can't recommend her enough.

Her office is right in the heart of San Marino with ample Parking. She was professional and had a great way with young newborns. We brought my son in when he was 2 months old. Elena Vogel was my lactation consultant, Dr. Kolleen Gregory was our infant chiropractor, and Dr. Choi is currently our pediatric dentist. Dr. Nguyen evaluated Adam the morning after I gave birth. He wasn't able to latch all night so she came to the hospital and said he had a tie. I was adamant about breastfeeding so after we were cleared by our doctors, we checked out on the second day and went straight to our appointment with Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Choi. Dr. Choi, who did the laser treatment on his tie actually found that it was much tighter than they originally thought, so I'm thankful I did it. It was a few seconds and it was done. Adam cried and truthfully screamed a bit, but stopped the second it was done. He had already settled down by the time he was back in my arms and we went home. The post-op care was heavily stressed by Dr. Nguyen. She was very thorough and careful when explaining how to do his oral stretches. She emphasized that the post-op care wasn't just his mouth, but his whole body. She was so incredibly knowledgeable on how the body functions as a whole and how it all ties together, so the movement and stretching of his mouth and entire body is all important. I'll be honest and say that I didn't want to do any of it because my cooter was healing and I was still in pain from just coming home from giving birth. It was all very fresh. But I looked at my baby and decided I'm his mom and this is my responsibility. Every single day for the next 3 months, I set aside the bare minimum of 5 minutes but realistically it took 15 minutes to do thorough movement for my son. I put in the work. I took videos and sent them to Dr. Nguyen and she would give me feedback. Call me crazy but my son was and is an "easy" baby. Be it a blessing of luck with a combination of effort and work, I see results. He eats a variety of foods, hitting all his milestones, and developing beautifully. I can't wait to have another baby lol.
