Didn't get to try the Amsterdam menu, so reviewing for Arabian Grill. Food was excellent. Really interesting and unique but familiar flavors. Presentation is beautiful as well. Generous portions. Really glad this place opened up in East Village read more

Ate at the Arabian Grill today in downtown Long Beach. Very tasty food, and good size portions at a reasonable cost. Had the beef kafta, mixed shawarma and the mixed mezza. The falafel and mustard salad dressing were delicious! read more

Randomly found this place after a hike for a friend's birthday lunch. There's metered parking on the side. I think they are doing some sort of remodel. We ordered the eggplant dip to share as well as the beet salad. Both were delish and a good portion size. The (3) avocado smoothies were light and you can definitely taste the honey. My friend has the latte and I'm guessing it was good. No complaints. Three of us had the steak kabobs which were juicy and cooked perfectly. I do wish they had a falafel platter for my vegetarian friend as she just had to order a starter as a meal. The pistachio cake was interesting. Light but nutty. The baklava was so good and sweet. A bite of heaven. Service was great as was the food. Definitely a must try. read more

Tried them out for the first time. Excellent! Nice selection of menu items. Service is very friendly and the food came out quickly. Had the Beet Ceasar and Fish+Chips. Nicely done. Be aware that you order inside at the counter and pay your bill up front. I would highly recommend based on this visit. read more

The neighbors of the East Village Arts District are so excited to have a new restaurant in town! Located on the corner of 1st St and Linden, when you walk in to New Amsterdam, you'll immediately be greeted with warm smiles and shortbread bites. There's also a lovely outdoor patio that's shaded for warmer days and even a pair of small fountains to make your dining experience more pleasant :) My friend and I came for opening night and had front row seating next to the musicians (whom I sincerely hope will be back because they played some of my jazz favorites). We ordered at the counter: beets caesar salad for my friend and lamb loin for me, which I was told by staff was very good. It's hands down the best lamb I've had from the Mediterranean spots I've tried in Long Beach - crispy seared edges and melt-in-your-mouth meat served over fresh veggies and potato in a roasted eggplant sauce. A hard act to follow for sure, but they did it with the desserts! I had the rosewater milk pudding, a light refreshment that's not too sweet and balanced with the crushed pistachio, shredded coconut, and sliced almonds. I have it on my friend's good authority that the chocolate pistachio cake was similarly delicious. Needless to say, I can't wait to come back to try their breakfast menu and believe me, it will be soon! read more

Came here to grab some food that wasn't the usual spot of ours. I got the chicken shawarma, my partner got a beet salad and a side of hummus. Oh and a pistachio chocolate piece of cake for dessert. Food was really good. Chicken was seasoned really well. Hummus was good just wished the pita was warm. Cake was also very good. My partner really likes the salad as well. So no complains in the food department. Staff was friendly but seemed frazzled. The girl that took our order was doing great and then another lady came behind her and was telling her what to do while she was already doing it. Thought it would have been nice to let her finish taking care of us since she was already doing what the lady was telling her to do as well. Ambience was ok we chose the patio since it was nice out and it gives you more of a neighborhood vibe. Would I come back here again... Yes I would. It's a fresh of breath air when there's a new restaurant that isn't Mexican food since there are so many of them. read more

Best Shwarma and falafel in Long Beach. The sweetest folks too. Support this place. It's great. Only real issue for me is how bright the lighting is inside. If they were a little dimmer it would feel more cozy and less casual but this is a small complaint when the food is so good. Go! read more

Hoping the right eyes see this review for Arabian Grill, the rebranded New Amsterdam. Went in today for the second time. My first visit, I ordered the beef shawarma to go. The portion was more than fair. Flavor-wise, my food was perfect. Seasoning on shawarma was just right and the cook on the meat was exactly how I like it; juicy with hints of crunch that kept the taste buds busy. I knew I would have to come back to try something else. Today I went in and decided to try the cheeseburger combo. I heard from a couple of my neighbors that it was good, so I had to taste it for myself. Walked in and placed my order with the awesome human behind the counter (we will discuss Jordana in a little bit). Sat down and it couldn't have been 10 minutes that passed, but my food was brought to my table. I don't know what they season their patties with, but it was a party for my palate. The fries were cut and cooked to perfection. My plates were cleaned off within minutes. Embarrassingly, Jordana came around to check on me, but I had already obliterated my meal. She must've read my mind, because after complimenting the food, she suggested trying the baklava. I'm never going to say "no" to baklava. I don't know if I've been eating baklava from the wrong places, but this stuff hit different! I learned that they make their own pastries and you can really taste the difference. The food is awesome and like other reviews say, the service is top tier. Jordana is very friendly and was very patient with my indecisiveness. Her smile is warm and welcoming; everything you would want in a neighborhood restaurant! If you like delicious food and elite service, I highly recommend this place. read more

So this isn't our first visit although this is our first return since they changed to the Arabian Grill. Food is still great. They added Kafta (chicken & Beef+lamb) which I don't recall them having before. We originally wanted the chicken but they were out so.i tried the Beef+Lamb & it was moist and juicy. I also wanted to try the MAHALABIA, which is a middle eastern pudding but they were out as well, kinda bummed about that. Second time weve tried to have it. The atmosphere is still really laid back and friendly, and the service was great as always. My wife, Tina wanted the Turkish Coffee and the server told her, "I will bring you 2 cups that's alot for 1 person, it serves 2-4 people" Tina, said "it won't phase her she can finish it" the young woman smiled and said, "I will be impressed if you drink the whole thing" Tina drank the entire thing, minus my one sip. She will be awake for awhile lol. The people here, owners and their kids are so friendly, they really do.make ya feel welcome. Now we just have to return to try the MAHALABIA, we will get it eventually. It must be good to be out all the time. read more

The chicken shwarma was good - not what I was expecting, however I have yet tried Syrian Arabian cuisine specifically. The flavors grew on me- however I was not expecting fries! Maybe the crowd influenced the choice- It is very hard to be in the restaurant business- especially in the US! But honestly, greens need at least oil for the body to process them! They're new to downtown Long Beach East Village - come give them some love and support! read more

This place here is legit, I'll start off by saying the hospitality coming from the owner was astonishing, also very clean I'll definitely be coming back! I had the shawarma beef plate which was amazing, very tasteful & cooked just to perfection.(#1 recommended) Also I had to get me the chicken shawarma to-go. Definitely did not disappoint either. OPEN ! NEW OWNERSHIP! Not permanently closed. read more

Food is out of this dimension. Silly good. Will definitely be back. Additionally, very reasonably priced.

First time here. We were greeted with a smile upon arrival, and the service was great. The appetizer platter was decent, the chicken shawarma was dry, and the rice was okay. The highlight? The Turkish coffee at the end--I'd return just for that! read more

Good humus and babaganoush with authentic salad and kabobs. Rice had interesting and different flavor but good. Toasted pita was good but I like it when they bring the whole pieces too. Service was good and friendly. Colorful decor with plenty of seating. Easy location to find and access. Overall solid place to have Mediterranean food. read more

Well, it was open today. I ordered a glass of white wine and the person taking my order didn't have a tool to open it. I asked for take out but they put my order on a plate for dine in. Lacks the authenticity of a true Arab restaurant. Ordered shawarma and definitely did not get shawarma. The pistachio cake in their picture was not available. Service was friendly but food quality was just okay. Turkish coffee was not good. All in all I'd encourage the owner to play a more active role in this establishment. It's not enough to just delegate such sophisticated cuisine to cheap help. read more

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! The chicken shawarma was really good! My son got the buyer, we would not recommend that. But the shawarma was very good! The salad was also very good! read more

Tried their breakfast and had to come back the next day for dinner! The food is absolutely delicious and healthy. Would recommend the Shashuka. The coffee was the right amount of sweet. Our 2nd time, Never Again. First time was the night they opened! Very disorganized but we wete patient. 2nd visit very loud TV with Arabic Music type videos Waitress did not know what wine they had. I saw the 2 other people, only other people at 7:00ish. No wine list had to ask price. After food service, the waitress never came back. We had to ask for check and to go box. Not an enjoyable experience, food mediocre at best. There was a seam in the table top full of food crumbs and food. Yuck. This is a restaurant to avoid! read more

Service: Turned the lights on ourselves because it was getting dark. They re-made one of our plates because it got cold while waiting for the other, which had cold fries. Only drinks available were water and tea. Garlic sauce came after I was done eating. Door left open so it was kinda cold. Food: really good. We had the beef shawarma plate and chicken shawarma wrap. The rice was good, the chicken was excellent, as was the beef. The hummus was perfect. Summary: bring your own drink and enjoy the food. read more

Amazing little gem that belongs in Long Beach. The kibbeh and the chicken shawarma plate were amazing. The pomegranate sauce was so unique and different. The owner is super cool and very nice too. After watching it all come together for New Amsterdam to open, I finally stopped in to try their fish & chips. My meal was super tasty and the free taste of baklava was the best taste of anything I've eaten in the past month. I could devour an entire tray of their baklava with no trouble, other than what my hips might say. Although they have a beautiful outdoor seating area, it was too hot outside, so I opted to sit inside where it was perfectly cooled. The new owner, his son, and the gal they hired to help, are all incredibly welcoming, take pride in what they're serving, and are grateful for the business. They're a wonderful new edition to our East Village neighborhood. I will certainly become a regular. read more

Food was surprisingly good. Very simple cuisine the service was excellent. I would go again Their garlic sauce was delicious!

I took my mom here for mother's day, she was excited to try this place, since it was fairly new. There was an outside patio which was great because we brought my mom's dog with us. I ordered the beef wrap with the tabouleh salad and my mom ordered the Arabic style shawarma, with the baba ganoush instead of hummus. First of all my wrap came in a tortilla and not a pita bread. Which I was very disappointed cause I was expecting a pita. The tabouleh salad was decent, I don't expect that to be made improper. There was supposed to be garlic sause inside the wrap but it tasted like tahini sauce, the consistency also made me believe that it was tahini sauce. The side of garlic sauce we ordered didn't taste like any garlic was in it. My mom's shawarma plate had a side of baba ganoush that tasted like mustard. Don't get me wrong I love mustard, but not with Mediterranean food. The side salad that was with her plate was just pieces of spinach, which they didn't offer oil or balsamic, a lemon.. nothing. The server was friendly, I don't remember if she told us her name. I don't recommend coming here if you want Mediterranean food. There are way better places for the same price. read more

The food is outstanding! The mix of medium well done beef kabob and juicy tender chicken kebab with the rice pilaf is out of this world! The dish is full of rich spices, flavorful, and aromatic. Each bite gets better and better. The baklava is just delicious! Not too sweet, just perfectly done with a hint of tartness and taste of pistachios. The casual dining fits with the casual, outgoing server, Jamil. His mom's recipes is a must try! We will be back again real soon! read more

Yuck. The beet Caesar was full of rotten avocado. So heavily dressed it was not edible. I threw it in the trash after 3 bites.
