The neighbors of the East Village Arts District are so excited to have a new restaurant in town! Located on the corner of 1st St and Linden, when you walk in to New Amsterdam, you'll immediately be greeted with warm smiles and shortbread bites. There's also a lovely outdoor patio that's shaded for warmer days and even a pair of small fountains to make your dining experience more pleasant :) My friend and I came for opening night and had front row seating next to the musicians (whom I sincerely hope will be back because they played some of my jazz favorites). We ordered at the counter: beets caesar salad for my friend and lamb loin for me, which I was told by staff was very good. It's hands down the best lamb I've had from the Mediterranean spots I've tried in Long Beach - crispy seared edges and melt-in-your-mouth meat served over fresh veggies and potato in a roasted eggplant sauce. A hard act to follow for sure, but they did it with the desserts! I had the rosewater milk pudding, a light refreshment that's not too sweet and balanced with the crushed pistachio, shredded coconut, and sliced almonds. I have it on my friend's good authority that the chocolate pistachio cake was similarly delicious. Needless to say, I can't wait to come back to try their breakfast menu and believe me, it will be soon!

Came here to grab some food that wasn't the usual spot of ours. I got the chicken shawarma, my partner got a beet salad and a side of hummus. Oh and a pistachio chocolate piece of cake for dessert. Food was really good. Chicken was seasoned really well. Hummus was good just wished the pita was warm. Cake was also very good. My partner really likes the salad as well. So no complains in the food department. Staff was friendly but seemed frazzled. The girl that took our order was doing great and then another lady came behind her and was telling her what to do while she was already doing it. Thought it would have been nice to let her finish taking care of us since she was already doing what the lady was telling her to do as well. Ambience was ok we chose the patio since it was nice out and it gives you more of a neighborhood vibe. Would I come back here again... Yes I would. It's a fresh of breath air when there's a new restaurant that isn't Mexican food since there are so many of them.

Didn't get to try the Amsterdam menu, so reviewing for Arabian Grill. Food was excellent. Really interesting and unique but familiar flavors. Presentation is beautiful as well. Generous portions. Really glad this place opened up in East Village

Hoping the right eyes see this review for Arabian Grill, the rebranded New Amsterdam. Went in today for the second time. My first visit, I ordered the beef shawarma to go. The portion was more than fair. Flavor-wise, my food was perfect. Seasoning on shawarma was just right and the cook on the meat was exactly how I like it; juicy with hints of crunch that kept the taste buds busy. I knew I would have to come back to try something else. Today I went in and decided to try the cheeseburger combo. I heard from a couple of my neighbors that it was good, so I had to taste it for myself. Walked in and placed my order with the awesome human behind the counter (we will discuss Jordana in a little bit). Sat down and it couldn't have been 10 minutes that passed, but my food was brought to my table. I don't know what they season their patties with, but it was a party for my palate. The fries were cut and cooked to perfection. My plates were cleaned off within minutes. Embarrassingly, Jordana came around to check on me, but I had already obliterated my meal. She must've read my mind, because after complimenting the food, she suggested trying the baklava. I'm never going to say "no" to baklava. I don't know if I've been eating baklava from the wrong places, but this stuff hit different! I learned that they make their own pastries and you can really taste the difference. The food is awesome and like other reviews say, the service is top tier. Jordana is very friendly and was very patient with my indecisiveness. Her smile is warm and welcoming; everything you would want in a neighborhood restaurant! If you like delicious food and elite service, I highly recommend this place.

Turkish Coffee. The server said it was enough for 2-4 people...lol

So this isn't our first visit although this is our first return since they changed to the Arabian Grill. Food is still great. They added Kafta (chicken & Beef+lamb) which I don't recall them having before. We originally wanted the chicken but they were out so.i tried the Beef+Lamb & it was moist and juicy. I also wanted to try the MAHALABIA, which is a middle eastern pudding but they were out as well, kinda bummed about that. Second time weve tried to have it. The atmosphere is still really laid back and friendly, and the service was great as always. My wife, Tina wanted the Turkish Coffee and the server told her, "I will bring you 2 cups that's alot for 1 person, it serves 2-4 people" Tina, said "it won't phase her she can finish it" the young woman smiled and said, "I will be impressed if you drink the whole thing" Tina drank the entire thing, minus my one sip. She will be awake for awhile lol. The people here, owners and their kids are so friendly, they really do.make ya feel welcome. Now we just have to return to try the MAHALABIA, we will get it eventually. It must be good to be out all the time.

First time here. We were greeted with a smile upon arrival, and the service was great. The appetizer platter was decent, the chicken shawarma was dry, and the rice was okay. The highlight? The Turkish coffee at the end--I'd return just for that!

Chicken kebab, hummus

Tried their breakfast and had to come back the next day for dinner! The food is absolutely delicious and healthy. Would recommend the Shashuka. The coffee was the right amount of sweet. Also enjoyed the kebabs, the spice mix was excellent. Staff was also super friendly. And, there's a nice outdoor seating area.

Yuck. The beet Caesar was full of rotten avocado. So heavily dressed it was not edible. I threw it in the trash after 3 bites.

Kafta Kabob was overcooked and dry. Chicken Kabob was very dry and tough. Salmon Kabobs were too well done but decent. Their garlic sauce only have a light hint of garlic flavor to it. The best part of the meal was the rice and hummus. We realized all the upcharges were added to our bill. We asked for an ONE extra pita bread, they charged $1.00. They only gave us 1 garlic sauce and I asked for another one because we ordered 2 plates. They charged me an extra 75 cents because one of these combo plates doesn't include garlic sauce. Uhm... ok. Apparently only 1 plate can have a garlic sauce. What kind of logic is that?! They both are Mediterranean plates with rice and hummus! 75 cents extra for a tiny garlic sauce. Custom charge of $3.00 was added to our $24 combo plates because I substitute the beef for another salmon Kabob. The other Kabob was a chicken. A takeout order, they charges 15 cents for a paper bag. Kafta Kebab plate $18.99 Mixed Grill Combo $23.99 Single pita bread $1.00 Custom Charge $3.00 Garlic Paste 0.75 PAPERBAG FEE 0.15 Credit card surcharge of 3% is added to the bill. The bill came out to be $55 for a takeout meal that's inside and behind a liquor store. All the highlighted upcharges on the receipt (see picture) that other restaurants does not charges. This is just taking advantage of your customer. Next time, I'll enjoy a nice sit down meal at a Mediterranean restaurant down the street with those prices. So underwhelming and disappointed. I know times are tough. I'm sure that $20 plus dollars you charge for a plate of food already made the business some profit already. It's tough for the customers as well, but taking advantage like this, I will never come back again which is too bad because my office is near and we would of made this our regular place to grab lunch. In honesty, it's not the extra few dollars that matter, it's the principle.

It's nicely decorated, and the weather was perfect for us to enjoy dinner on the outside patio. We enjoyed the food, though it's Persian oriented, so different from the more Greek-type Mediterranean food we're used to. Portions are generous, and it's nice to have both salad and rice included.

They offer flavorful and substantial menu items; however, as advised by friends, the preparation process can be relatively slow, with our two panini sandwiches and appetizer taking approximately thirty minutes to be ready for our pickup. Nonetheless, the quality of the food justified the wait. We ordered the House Specialty Hummus Trio, of which we have leftovers. All three varieties met our expectations, with the edamame hummus particularly standing out to me. Regarding the panini sandwiches (shared between two people) we had the Salmon Brie Panini and the Tofu Pesto Panini. The Salmon Brie Panini was enjoyable, though slightly fishy tasting. The Tofu Pesto Panini distinguished itself through its exceptional flavor, texture, and creativity. Overall, we were pleased with our experience and look forward to returning in the future.
