This has to be the FILTHIEST fish store that I have ever shopped in.
Unfortunately they have the best selection of African Cichlids in Gainesville. The same would apply to salt water fish as well. Though there is an amazing up and coming store on Archer rd that is Awesome! Clean, reasonalbe and a great selection. Its called Ocean exotics.
It will be a long time if at all that you find me spending any of my money in aquatropics again.
I feel that just because they are the only game in town, this doesnt give them the right to give poor customer service or to have the nastiest environment for the customers to shop or their fish to live.
I feel that if I am to have the healthiest tank at home then I should be able to buy my fish from healthy tanks at the store.
There are Always dead fish in the tanks, how unhealthy is this? It takes a second to scoop the dead out once a day? I am told by several former employees that the owners do not want the staff to deal with things like this, that their job is to sell fish, not to clean. Well whos job is it then? Because they sure arent doing it.
Someone should teach the owners wife that when a customer has just spent over $350 in the past couple months on fish that she shouldnt balk at giving credit for a $10 fish that dies.
I am overly attentive when it comes to putting new fish in a tank, I choose the healthiest way to introduce fish into my tanks as possible, just short of quarentining them. This wasnt necessary as this was a new tank and everyone except a few came from the same store.
I took my sample of water in as well as the dead fish. I knew that things in my tank were all right, as I tested my water before I left for the store.
I get to the store, she tests my water and immediately gasps "OH MY, your ph is way too low for africans." with this she refuses to give me a credit or replace the fish. I just left, I was so irritated that she was being so dramatic about it all and wouldnt do what a good business owner should have done. Instead she tells me that the fish had gone into shock from the ph change from her tanks to mine. Funny though, the ph wasnt that far off of one another that it would have caused something like this to happen.
I tested my water again when I returned, with both the high and low test kits and my water was fine.
I just felt that the entire issue could have been resolved a lot better. I would have been happiest with a new fish but nothing but anger came of this whole thing.
I have found a great fish store in Middleberg FL that will order anything that I want, they are amazing, clean, have an awesome selection of African Cichlids and Saltwater fish that are less expensive as well. This store is only a 40 minute drive and well worth it, this will be another blog.
I have also recently found several wholesalers that I will be able to deal with. GOD BLESS THE INTERNET! read more
