To start, note that my dog Cody and I have had to move around a lot over the past 6 months which has been really hard on the both of us. Thanks to SAH during our months in Gainesville, Cody had possibly the best care that he has had over his entire travels across the country. More importantly, Dr. Nipper was the first vet that we both have seen over the past 6 months that actually thought about how our specific situation was causing us both anxiety, so she carefully considered a plan to both reduce Cody's stress and allow me to maintain his trust so training wasn't so unpredictable and prone to backsliding. Instead of prescribing heavy tranquilizers (a common recommendation that I was repeatedly told at vets before going to SAH.) she gave me some good advice and prescribed doggie Prozac, which -after a month- really helped his anxiety without changing his behavior like Trazadone does. I was able to keep up the general approach of positive reinforcement without worrying that he will become a nervous wreck. Dr. Nipper took the time to consider Cody's specific situation, especially his history of changing houses every couple of months. Other vets never even considered this. Another part was she addressed his allergies, a diagnosis she made after asking questions about whether he scratching all the time, something common for dogs not used to Florida. Other Florida vets didn't even bring this up and now that he's not scratching all the time he's just a happier dog. Finally, I want to also point out that it wasn't just Dr. Nipper that made suburban a great animal Hospital. There's staff is terrific and very careful to make sure that he got what is needed and that there weren't any changes to his health before doing anything. It's just good to know that they are careful, especially when I realize that a lot of offices don't pay that kind of attention. TL;DR: I would recommend both Dr. Nipper and the staff at Suburban Animal Hospital to anyone who wants the best for their animal companions. I have seen lots of examples of less than stellar offices in just a few months prior, and SAH is the best care he's gotten since he was a teensy pup back in San Francisco. And while we sadly are leaving town once again, at least I now know how to make sure he gets good care, especially after seeing what I thought was typical care that I realized I shouldn't have to settle for. It's not like Suburban Animal Hospital is expensive or anything. If anything I've experienced that how much you pay for the same service has nothing to do with that quality of service. And while leaving them behind is a bummer, I am happy that Cody's health benefited so much from both the care he received there as well as me being much better informed than I was before I in that office. And if anyone from SAH is reading this, thanks so much for providing such a positive experience and results for both Cody and I! Bless you all and I hope our paths cross again down the road!

From the moment I walked in with her, to leaving her for the actual surgery I felt at ease with all the staff and doctors. They kept me updated every day with her recovery. The reason for 4 stars is the second night after I brought her back home I did have to rush her back because she was having symptoms of what I thought was sepsis and the night shift staff were not as helpful or kind as the day shift. During that visit my fiancé and I waited over 7 hours to finally speak to someone about her, we didn't even know if she was okay for hours and we didn't even get to go to the hotel we booked over night as we initially arrived to the ER around 1:30am. Other than that the surgery and recovery did go extremely well. She's like a brand new kitty. Hopefully we bought her another 15 years. As far as pricing I will be extremely transparent. I was originally quoted 4-6k but then after an ultrasound they saw something that would require a little more effort so then that went up to 6-8k. After I got her back the first time it was 7200$ and then the second visit was $500. I have no regrets. Thank you.

I had a deeply disturbing experience with Dr. Tassala Djennadi…read more I came in asking for a sterile needle to administer subcutaneous fluids to my cat, who has late-stage kidney disease and requires daily care to stay alive. Because I had been out of town, he had already gone over 48 hours without fluids. This is not optional care..it is essential. Without asking a single follow-up question about his condition or how long he had gone without treatment, she told me she couldn't provide a needle and that he could "wait another day." When I explained that he had already missed over two days of fluids and that I was concerned, she told me that if it were a "real emergency," I would have planned better. Let that sink in: a veterinarian told me that my cat missing multiple days of medically necessary fluids was not an emergency because of my "planning." There was zero compassion, no attempt to help, no alternatives offered, and no concern for the animal. I was standing there holding his prescribed subcutaneous fluid bag with his name and information clearly labeled and even offered to provide his SOAP note, yet instead of helping, she, in an obviously mockiny and unhelpful way, suggested I could always spend $200 for needles if I were to bring my cat in for a full exam just to be entered into their system before they would sell me needles, fully aware that this wasn't possible that night. I told her plainly that my only options were to go home and attempt to reuse an old needle or have her help my cat who urgently needed fluids, and she still refused. I was ultimately turned away and left in the unacceptable position of having to consider reusing an old needle just to care for my cat.

The gal that checked me in was very nice and personable and I didn't have to wait that long before Taylor greeted me and took myself and Mimi (cat) back to the exam room. I made Taylor aware that Mimi was not a good patient due to a bad experience with a previous vet years ago. She's never gotten over it. Dr. Howard came in and was also made aware of how Mimi was abused and that she would be upset with anything that was done. Taylor and Dr. Howard were so respectful, patient and kind with Mimi. Mimi sensed that and although she still wasn't happy being there or them, she did very well. I also want to thank Kat assisting Taylor and Dr. Howard. She got what was needed in a timely manner & she has a great smile! A lot of credit to Dr. Howard on the best exam Mimi's ever had in 13 years! She was slow, gentle and very through. Prior to Mimi's rabies shot Taylor was sweet enough to get Mimi one of the tubes of what I call gravy. Mimi loves that. At first she was hesitant so I had Taylor put some in my hand and while Mimi was licking it up Dr. Howard gently gave Mimi her shot. Normally Mimi would have jumped and loudly protested. She didn't do either one! She did hiss which is no big deal, but her normal rage didn't happen. For the first time ever while I was talking to the doctor and Mimi was still on the examination table she laid down. I took my hand off of her and she stayed on the table instead of jumping down and running to get into carrier. That told me volumes about how much more comfortable she'd become on her first visit. All animal lovers know how they can sense positive and negative situations. That was a stamp of approval from Mimi I've never seen ever in 13 years! I took my two cats here for vaccines. I've previously taken them to a very unique veterinarian in…read moreSan Antonio and to vaccines day at Tractor Supply. Parking lot: With multiple cats, I had to make multiple trips. The parking lot is separated from the building by a wide two lane driving area. Then, parking can be fullish, so you may have to park away from the building even farther. You can't leave a cat shut up in the car, so it's kind of a leave the car open, scurry with one cat to the waiting room, leave the cat alone, then hurry and grab the other cat. It's a better set up for a single animal because of the crowd, distance, and heat. The parking lot is always busy. There's a separate entrance for the vet office from Pet Smart, so it is safe to drop a cat in a carrier just inside that entrance and leave them for a few minutes, if you have to shuttle multiple animals. The vet waiting room is not super busy. For leaving to go back to the car, they have shopping carts that are the pallet style like at Home Depot, and you can put all the cat carriers on one and take them out together for one trip out. I went on a Sunday. Banfield is in Pet Smart, and Saturday is pet adoption day, so there are tons of dogs, which would not be good with cats. On a Sunday it was fine. The vet entrance is way less busy than the Pet Smart store entrance, and rowdy/cat-curious dogs were more a side walk in front of the store and main entrance thing. The vet waiting room was big enough to find a quiet area and wasn't busy. So, good for cats not to get nervous. The vet seemed fine with cats. For the more universally friendly cat, she had good "bed side manner". For the more one-person-cat that doesn't like strangers, she was just like it looks fine, let's not take temperature in the butt and we'll say it's healthy. I'm kind of bummed to get charged for physical exams for both cats, because the one cat didn't get one (she really hasn't ever because she gets tense) and because the website for making the reservation said that the exam fee was waived for the first visit for an animal. But overall prices were fine. For rabies and distemper vaccines and exam, prices were roughly comparable to the Tractor Supply vaccines day rabies and distemper and the Pet Smart setup was much better for cats. Exams and vaccines are done in small exam rooms, so it's a secure setup for cats. I will probably do vaccines here next year. Price, setup, and hours were fine.

I've been bringing my cat to this Banfield location for over a year for his regular checkups and…read moreexams, and until recently, I trusted them with his care. However, my recent visit was extremely upsetting and disappointing. I brought my cat in on Thursday after noticing his stomach moving rapidly for about a week. The staff member who checked me in was polite, and since it was a drop-off appointment, I left my cat in their care. Later, I was called back in and met with Dr. Hudak, who seemed visibly distressed. She told me I needed to take my cat to an emergency hospital. When I asked what was wrong and if there was anything they could do at Banfield, she mentioned they could run an X-ray and bloodwork for about $300. I asked if there was any way to get the bill handled differently or set up a payment option, and her exact response was: "If you're having money issues, then it's best to put your pet to sleep." Hearing that made me panic and break down -- I was in shock. There was no empathy or compassion in how it was said, and it felt like my pet's life only mattered if I could pay upfront. After doing the X-ray, they told me to go immediately to the emergency hospital. I paid $387 before leaving, but when I asked for printed records to bring to the ER, they refused, saying I just needed to go. I felt completely dismissed and unheard during one of the scariest moments for my cat and me. This experience left me heartbroken and deeply disappointed. I hope Banfield addresses how their staff communicate with pet owners in crisis, especially when emotions and fear are already so high. Compassion should always come first.

We brought our 15-year-old terrier to Haile Plantation Animal Clinic on Monday, August 10, after he…read morebecame extremely sick, stopped eating, and began breathing very slowly. Because of how much he was suffering, we made the heartbreaking decision to have him euthanized. We paid for an individual cremation and were specifically told that his ashes would be returned the following Monday, August 17. Based on that information, we believed he would be picked up and handled promptly. When I followed up on August 20 to ask if we could pick up his ashes since we hadn't heard anything, I was shocked to be told that the crematorium had only picked him up on Monday, August 17. That means our dog Riley apparently remained at the clinic for an entire week before even being transported for cremation. We received no phone call, no update, and no explanation that there had been any delay. Had we been told that our dog was going to remain there for a week, we absolutely would have made other arrangements. I would have personally transported him to the crematorium rather than leave him there for that length of time. What makes this even more upsetting is that we paid specifically for an individual cremation because it was extremely important to us that we receive our dog's ashes back. After being given incorrect information about the timeline, I am now left questioning the entire process and simply hoping that the ashes eventually returned to us are actually his. I understand that veterinary clinics may refrigerate or freeze remains while awaiting cremation. That is not the issue. The issue is that we were told his ashes would be back on August 17, when he apparently had not even left the clinic until that day. There is a major difference. When someone has just lost a pet they have loved for 15 years, communication, honesty, and respectful handling of their remains should be treated with the utmost importance. This was already an incredibly painful experience for our family, and the way this was handled made it significantly worse. We are extremely disappointed and offended by the lack of communication and transparency surrounding our dog's final arrangements by this clinic. Not to mention, we'll have to wait an additional week for him to be able to be picked up if they can even deliver on that promise, at this point, I have very little faith.
