From the start to the moment she was discharged, it was clear how much care and attention the doctors and students gave her. I especially want to thank her doctor, Melissa Narum, who performed Maya's surgery and took such great care of her. Throughout the whole process, I received lots of updates and pictures from Dr. Narum and Sara, the student who was also part of this amazing team. They were always so helpful and thorough when answering my questions. I truly couldn't have asked for better care. Thanks to them, Maya is now at home, doing great, and recovering well to soon be running after squirrels again

Because I had been out of town, he had already gone over 48 hours without fluids. This is not optional care..it is essential. Without asking a single follow-up question about his condition or how long he had gone without treatment, she told me she couldn't provide a needle and that he could "wait another day." When I explained that he had already missed over two days of fluids and that I was concerned, she told me that if it were a "real emergency," I would have planned better. Let that sink in: a veterinarian told me that my cat missing multiple days of medically necessary fluids was not an emergency because of my "planning." There was zero compassion, no attempt to help, no alternatives offered, and no concern for the animal. I was standing there holding his prescribed subcutaneous fluid bag with his name and information clearly labeled and even offered to provide his SOAP note, yet instead of helping, she, in an obviously mockiny and unhelpful way, suggested I could always spend $200 for needles if I were to bring my cat in for a full exam just to be entered into their system before they would sell me needles, fully aware that this wasn't possible that night. I told her plainly that my only options were to go home and attempt to reuse an old needle or have her help my cat who urgently needed fluids, and she still refused. I was ultimately turned away and left in the unacceptable position of having to consider reusing an old needle just to care for my cat.

Last month I took one of our dogs here for his annual shots and I liked the vet, whose name I believe was Melissa White. I didn't really have to deal with any vet "tech" that day. We have another dog that is anxious when anyone tries to trim his nails so I talked to Melissa about bringing him there to have his nails trimmed. She suggested we bring him in JUST FOR THAT since he'd just had his shots updated by another vet. I had made an appointment for him to get his nails trimmed a few weeks ago at 8 am and my husband had to deal with one of their vet "techs" who was a very unprofessional female, acted really nasty, obnoxious, and was actually looking for a PHYSICAL fight with my husband! We had gotten there about 10 minutes before our appointment time and I went in alone to tell the receptionist we were there but my husband would stay in my truck with our dog until they were ready for him since he would be very anxious when he came in and couldn't wait inside. The receptionist told me they were ready for him and my husband should bring him in. My husband brought our dog in while I waited outside in my truck with our other dog. My husband was brought into an examination room and a vet "tech" came in and wanted to do an "examination" so likely they could charge us for more than just a nail trim. My husband told her he had heard me on the phone make the appointment for ONLY for a nail trim, and the vet we used to take our dog to told us that they had sent all of his medical records to them, which one of the "techs" denied. My husband also told her we'd had our dog for 10 years and he tried to tell her exactly how his nails needed to be trimmed so he wouldn't go wild. She acted like she knew everything and didn't want to hear what he had to say. She then kept coming in and out of the room, making him wait and become more anxious, then my husband said she came in, grabbed our dog's paw, squeezed it and clipped one nail. Our dog went wild. He jumped all over my husband, kept scratching him, and my husband had blood all over his arms from being scratched. The "tech" then wanted to take our dog away from my husband and "bring him into the back" and said we'd come too early and there weren't enough people to help! Bizarre since they told me they were ready for him and to come in! My husband then called me on the phone and said he wanted to leave because the "tech" had no sense. Of course she really did not have any sense since she just wanted to do what SHE wanted to do and not listen to my husband who knew way more about our dog than she could possibly know. Then a nasty tattooed and obnoxious "tech" came into the room after he told me on the phone that the other "tech" had no sense. She tried literally to start a physical fight with my husband! She obviously didn't care about our dog going crazy because of what the other "tech" did, or the fact that my husband's skin was bleeding everywhere. My husband asked to speak to the actual vet since our appointment verification said WE WOULD HAVE AN APPOINTMENT with a vet named "Courtney Sorenson", not a bunch of ignorant know it all "techs" who knew NOTHING. Obviously being informed that we had an appointment with an actual vet was a lie because the big, nasty, tatted up "tech" refused to let my husband speak to the vet. She then blocked the door so he couldn't leave, told him he wasn't allowed to criticize "her staff", which was BS since she wasn't a vet, just an obnoxious employee. She got in his face, and kept saying, "Come at me! Come at me!" My husband walked toward her and she stepped aside from the door and he left. When he came out to the parking lot I got out of my truck because she followed him out into the parking lot yelling like a lunatic saying that we were banned from that place and said our lives obviously sucked. I thought, wow, what a crazy lunatic she is if she thought we would ever, ever, come back to that place again! I would never trust a place like that with my dogs for hiring such an obnoxious nasty hag. As she stood there yelling my husband called her a fat tatted up moron, which she played out as true. Then she started yelling at me even though I hadn't had ANY contact with her at all. I told her to look at herself in the mirror, clearly it was obviously HER life that sucked. I then told her I would write a bad review and she said, "Go ahead!", so here it is! As an attorney I have dealt with deranged people my whole career, and I clearly I believe she is one of them and should never be around anyone's pets. She should probably just be flipping hamburgers at a fast food joint and have no contact with customers. Fortunately our lives ONLY suck when we meet lunatics like her!

However, my recent visit was extremely upsetting and disappointing. I brought my cat in on Thursday after noticing his stomach moving rapidly for about a week. The staff member who checked me in was polite, and since it was a drop-off appointment, I left my cat in their care. Later, I was called back in and met with Dr. Hudak, who seemed visibly distressed. She told me I needed to take my cat to an emergency hospital. When I asked what was wrong and if there was anything they could do at Banfield, she mentioned they could run an X-ray and bloodwork for about $300. I asked if there was any way to get the bill handled differently or set up a payment option, and her exact response was: "If you're having money issues, then it's best to put your pet to sleep." Hearing that made me panic and break down -- I was in shock. There was no empathy or compassion in how it was said, and it felt like my pet's life only mattered if I could pay upfront. After doing the X-ray, they told me to go immediately to the emergency hospital. I paid $387 before leaving, but when I asked for printed records to bring to the ER, they refused, saying I just needed to go. I felt completely dismissed and unheard during one of the scariest moments for my cat and me. This experience left me heartbroken and deeply disappointed. I hope Banfield addresses how their staff communicate with pet owners in crisis, especially when emotions and fear are already so high. Compassion should always come first.

My Cat Katie's money was spent @ Banfield time and time again for them to send her home with her…read morediabetes level over 400 without doing much about it, while my poor Cat Katie suffered from what looked like dehydration too, since she was at her water bowl 24/7, along with her extremely high insulin level. After doing my own research, I found out how extremely high diabetes levels can cause acute kidney failure, especially along with dehydration. With Banfield, for over a year, they continued to just test; send my Katie back home without increasing her insulin over and over again. The last time I went to Banfield, Katie was so sick, but instead of telling me that she needed to go to the ER, they told me to drop her insulin from 1 1/2 units to 1 unit and to come back in two weeks. @ the same time, three days later, I did have to take Cat Katie to the ER where they told me she needed "three" units of insulin. This is how much Katie was suffering visit after visit; needing help that I thought she was given: How so wrong I was. Please do your own research, because I waited until it was too late for my loving Cat Katie, because I say, through experience with Banfield, if you wait for them to really sit you down to be informed, regarding what is or will be in the future, I think a loving pet can be getting or suffering from within for sure. Another time @ Banfield, Katie was to be there for a whole day of blood level testing, but they did not say if I should take her insulin with me, as before, or to give it to her beforehand. Upon arriving @ Banfield, the Vet told me that Cat Katie should already have had her insulin, so now she is late for the day and that now I must reschedule. Really? This is for a cat with always extremely high diabetes levels. Plus, that was the last free office visit on Katie's wellness plan too. I finally complained the next day, even though I still had to reschedule Katie, it was still appalling, especially with a cat with uncontrolled diabetes. Another time @ Banfield, Katie, with diabetes, was so dehydrated; at her water bowl, 24/7, all the water was going down her mouth onto her neck; then, all the hair on her neck came off, when I was brushing her, so I rushed her to Banfield. So, all they did was to give me some spray; then, I had to immediately take her back to them after a few days for them to then tell me that she needed to go to the ER, after Katie was truly suffering all that time. Another time, after her original payment, they told me they did not have all the supplies that day; I needed to pay more money for her test to be ready by sending it out. I mean really, as if we didn't need to know beforehand? I say, we rely on Vets, who have the knowledge, to help and support our loved ones through preventative measures, medication, hydration, and therapy foods, not just test. Between my cats and their wellness plans at Banfield, I have spent over 17,000. But, to have Katie continue to suffer with uncontrolled diabetes is unacceptable. When you call them, their voice box starts with how compassionate and concern they are for our pets; however, the last time I had a question, I was told by a Banfield Vet that she had more than one parent, as if her mouth was moving but her heart was really unconcerned for me, or my pet. With them, I have another cat named Teddie who had thyroid disease; instead of telling me that there's a radiative I-131 injection that can be performed at the Institute of Veterinary on Archer Rd that can get rid of this disease, but no, which I find again totally unacceptable. Plus, after my own research on thyroids, I personally and initially asked Banfield to test Teddie's thyroid, and this is when he first was diagnosed with Thyroid disease, including what diet support food he now needed. However, when did they tell me Teddie had kidney issues? FYI: I just found out that a few months ago. I think their communication skills are utterly poor @ best without a doubt. Moreover, I recently found out that Cat Teddie has stage three kidney disease. What? I mean really. That is, when did Banfield sit me down to discuss that there were even stages in kidney disease. Not! Oh yes, about three months ago when I was told Teddie had a kidney disease. After Katie's prolonged battle with uncontrolled diabetes, the ER diagnosed her with a large stomach tumor and extremely dehydrated; then, she suffered a painful acute kidney disease, which research states can come from uncontrolled diabetes and extreme dehydration. Katie was fourteen-years-old; this was her home with me for all those years, and for someone at Banfield to tell me that she was "simply" old, is appalling; I agree is unacceptable, especially when I think they sat on my poor Katie's health, along with doing little to help her discomfort, quality of life or me. My cat Katie has been gone for six months now, but she did not deserve the suffering; she loved to have a good quality of life, just like humans.

Only snafu was we had to double check the meds before discharge as they were not the ones the vet had indicated but that was caught and fixed to the right ones. Minor delay. Discharge paperwork and instructions are very clear. And they proactively send records to your regular vet. The whole experience was about two hours. Again, not unexpected for a same-day urgent visit. We were grateful. Usually the vet ERs are swamped. We heard other patients and they seemed busy but didn't seem distracted with us and were fully present. Thank you! We will be back if needed. Glad you are here in town.
