Very client-focused. Great facility and convenient location. Highlights: Easy to make an appointment on their website. Easy to find and park (it's near Walmart and Bolay in Butler Plaza and GPS got me there as i usually find it a confusing area). Great facility -- brand new, welcoming and spotless. Sign in electronically on the tablet in the waiting room. Generous snacks for humans and pets (!). Nice touch. Friendly staff. Mykenna and Dr. Elizabeth Luria took care of our dog's ear infection -- tested, cleaned and treated his ears and sent us home with meds. Just over $200 with our UF staff discount -- comparable with Blue Pearl or the vet school. Only snafu was we had to double check the meds before discharge as they were not the ones the vet had indicated but that was caught and fixed to the right ones. Minor delay. Discharge paperwork and instructions are very clear. And they proactively send records to your regular vet. The whole experience was about two hours. Again, not unexpected for a same-day urgent visit. We were grateful. Usually the vet ERs are swamped. We heard other patients and they seemed busy but didn't seem distracted with us and were fully present. Thank you! We will be back if needed. Glad you are here in town.

However, my recent visit was extremely upsetting and disappointing. I brought my cat in on Thursday after noticing his stomach moving rapidly for about a week. The staff member who checked me in was polite, and since it was a drop-off appointment, I left my cat in their care. Later, I was called back in and met with Dr. Hudak, who seemed visibly distressed. She told me I needed to take my cat to an emergency hospital. When I asked what was wrong and if there was anything they could do at Banfield, she mentioned they could run an X-ray and bloodwork for about $300. I asked if there was any way to get the bill handled differently or set up a payment option, and her exact response was: "If you're having money issues, then it's best to put your pet to sleep." Hearing that made me panic and break down -- I was in shock. There was no empathy or compassion in how it was said, and it felt like my pet's life only mattered if I could pay upfront. After doing the X-ray, they told me to go immediately to the emergency hospital. I paid $387 before leaving, but when I asked for printed records to bring to the ER, they refused, saying I just needed to go. I felt completely dismissed and unheard during one of the scariest moments for my cat and me. This experience left me heartbroken and deeply disappointed. I hope Banfield addresses how their staff communicate with pet owners in crisis, especially when emotions and fear are already so high. Compassion should always come first.

In the exam room, we first met with a sales lady who was hard core trying to sell us on an expensive wellness insurance plan for our cat. She said that the insurance plan, if we committed to buying it would save us a ton of money toward my cat's upcoming dental surgery, it would cover dental x-rays, bloodwork, office visits, etc etc. The only thing it wouldn't cover would be the actual extractions he needs. The estimate Banfield gave me for my cat to have extractions was inflated about three times the cost of an estimate I received recently at another vet plus they wanted me to pay for this ridiculous wellness plan ( it was supposed to save us a ton of money) on top of it. In summary, I left extremely disappointed, very frustrated and felt like I basically paid a $64 exam fee to listen to a high pressure sales pitch. I felt like all they cared about was money and not my poor cat at all. They did absolutely nothing for my cat who is in extreme pain and distress. They wasted my time completely and my poor cat got absolutely no resolution. We will be going elsewhere for his surgery.

Knowing something wasn't right, we called our vet immediately. A huge thank you to Dr. (Mrs &Mr) Timberlake at Southeast Veterinary Hospital, who got us in the very next day. They identified the issue and performed a biopsy that same afternoon. Once the results came back, they immediately referred us to Dr. Darrow at ECoVets Veterinary Specialists. On April 13th, we had our consultation with Dr. Darrow to discuss the biopsy results and next steps. Blood work and X-rays were completed that same day, followed by a CT scan on April 14th. Just three days later, she was in surgery. Everything happened so fast, but the team knew exactly what was best for sweet Kirby girl and adjusted their schedules to act quickly and kick cancer to the curb. To say we are thankful and beyond grateful is a massive understatement. We will never be able to fully express our gratitude, though I think they could tell how happy we were at our follow-up appointment! To the entire staff at ECoVets Veterinary Specialists--the doctors, nurses, front desk, surgery scheduler, and everyone behind the scenes--thank you. From the initial consultation through surgery and the follow-up calls, your care and compassion have been absolutely top-notch. The best news: We got clean margins! By day 6 of recovery, Kirby was determined to eat on her own. After a lot of rest during the first 10 days, we've now fast-forwarded to week 4, and she is doing amazing. She is back to barking, playing with her brother, eating her soft food, and carrying around her soft toys (her babies). She is adjusting beautifully to her new little mouth, and we are truly amazed by her resilience. None of this would have been possible without Dr. Darrow and his incredible staff. We were so lucky to have such an amazing team of doctors and nurses in our corner. Thank you all so much! -- Kirby, Christi, and Jason Powell

The staff was welcoming and friendly when we arrived. We were immediately taken back to a room that was very clean and bright. The staff member who came to speak to us first was great, took time to listen and also try to help my anxious dog feel better. She took Magnus back for his exam and he was brought back by the neurologist, Dr. Kim. The doctor took time to explain everything thoroughly and answer questions. The first staff member returned to go over additional medication instructions and answer any questions. The visit was reasonably priced as well. Very glad to find this pet ER and specialty vets not too far from home.

I have nothing but great things to say about Shores!…read more I recently moved to the Gainesville area from Delray Beach and have been anxious about finding a vet and groomer for my dog Harley. He is the best and most loyal dog I have ever owned, but he is not without his issues. To add another wrinkle to the mix, he is a big guy...a 130 lb Betnedoodle. I tried several places closer to me (I live in Fort White) but when I explained all the problems other vets and groomers had with him, and that he had to be sedated to be groomed, they all told me they did not want to take him as a client:( Then I had the good fortune to come across Shores, who has both a vet clinic AND grooming facility. They listened to all my concerns about his quirks, and came up with a plan. Of course, we booked a appt to make sure he healthy and up-to-date on his shots, and they took the appropriate precautions by giving him anxiety meds so he would have a good experience, but then they set up a grooming appt with him on their "Chill Protocol". The vet in Delray used to have to fully sedate him to get him groomed. Today, he was sedated, but still awake ... which is so much better for him...so the end result was that it went better (and quicker) and he looks FANTASTIC! I need to give shout-outs to Ashley (the great groomer), the kind Dr. Kirkham who first examined him, Dr. Johnson who supervised the sedation today, Brooke our wonderfully patient tech, and Sophie and Sheri...who always check in with me by text:) Do not hesitate to take your pet for a vet visit or grooming. The facility, the vets and the support staff are all super!
