They have a pretty large and diverse selection of fish, and their prices are pretty reasonable. I've purchased an assortment of nano fish, shrimp, and snails over the past 2-3 years, and I can happily say that most, if not all, are still alive and happily living in my aquariums at home. I have been coming here for years! Each time I grow more and more fond with the store and staff. The guys here are so nice and understanding of even the smallest issues. Unlike other reviewers, I do not find the owner condescending at all. I find the staff to be very straight forward and won't give you false hope when reality will speak the truth. Please read this! I am not normally someone to leave bad reviews (as a small business owner myself i always try to look for the best in places!) however -- we have had an extremely well established 75 gallon tank, fully planted, and home to about 32 fish (all within their size and schooling requirements to flourish in said environment). our water parameters are PERFECT, as we test at least 2 times/week. the tank has been up and running for almost a year now. we decided to take a chance on this place and buy a school of rummy nose tetras and a pair of german blue rams. our first two red flags were that there were only 3 rams in their display tank, one of which was already lying on the floor of the tank gasping for air. the other two (once we saw them in the bag) were severely lacking color and motion -- this could not be seen with the minimal tank lighting they had. as for the rummy nose tetras -- the person collecting the fish said he had accidentally got more than we asked for -- he asked if we wanted them and stated we'd get a discount/have some for free. we said that was fine. upon checking out, we were charged $75 for the 7 tetras and 2 rams..... okay -- that's fine, i've spent more on fish, and i was willing to pay this as they seemed like a small mom and pop/specialty fish store, which i respect! (i'd prefer to get my fish from places like these instead of petco/petsmart etc.) when we got home, we drip acclimated our fish in their separate bags for a minimum of TWO hours. upon putting the fish in, one of our rams immediately sank to the bottom gasping for air. we removed him and placed him into a hospital tank to which he died a minimum of an hour later -- absolutely breaking my heart. Within that hour, we noticed a dead tetra as well as a tetra that looked to he developing cotton mouth and/or a rotting mouth bacteria. Scared to expose my other fish to possible illness, we removed this tetra as well, and he died within 2 minutes of being placed into the separate tank. As i write this, we have noticed our other ram lying on the bed of our aquarium and are beginning to worry with him as well. He will be going in our hospital tank tonight to see if he lasts the evening... I have been in the hobby for years and aspire to give my fish the utmost care and sense of love and safety -- taking the money aspect out of things -- the fish we got from this store could have seriously messed our entire tank worth thousands of dollars and months of hard work up. There were also numerous red flags through the store such as passive aggressive signage insinuating of fish die that it's the owners' faults, many stickers on tanks saying the particular fish "aren't guaranteed" meaning survival... many dirty tanks with no enrichment, the store smelled of dirty, unkept water, etc. At this point, i really don't even want to go back to do a return/get my money back -- i'd rather just warn people! if you're looking for a specialty fish store please consider Pet Bazaar and/or Something Fishy -- we've had nothing but luck with them!! UPDATE: Since writing this, we did in fact lose the other ram, we have lost 2 more tetras, and we have also started to lose some of our longest established fish in our tank.... my heart is absolutely broken and we will never be returning to Fishy Business. read more

Walked in and was asked if I needed any assistance. I asked some general questions about a 5 gallon tank. The older gentleman immediately asked me if I knew about the "breaking cycle". I had not and he proceeded to talk down to me for no reason. And any question I asked that was simple and seemed straight forward, he dropped his head to my questions as if he can't believe I'm asking him. I've had tanks for 20 + years and know a good amount, but because I didn't know the particular process he so described to me, he treated me with a condescending arrogance. I called him out on his "customer service" and told him to think twice about treating people that way. He proceeded to try and tell me I was upset of his treatment because I was sensitive. I now see through yelp that he has a reputation for treating customers poorly! I'm glad I confronted him about it. Maybe it will save someone else from his treatment. This store takes very minimal care of their tanks and fish for sale, many are seen with dead fish that are decayed from days of not being removed from the tank. After purchasing at this store i would recommend you look elsewhere for stocking your fish tank as their fish can be carrying sickness because all pf their aquariums are on one system. Lastly, the owner has very little customer service skills, he made me check out and kicked me out of the store at 6:45 when online and on his store front it says closing time is 7pm. To give a brief summary and get your attention: STAY AWAY. I worked here for a brief period of time, and got to see a lot of the issues first-hand. The care (or lack thereof) for the fish is negligent at best, and the business practices are cheap and unethical. After only a few days working there, I was starting to get sick seeing the sheer amount of death, and the complete and utter lack of care. Over an approximate 3-day period, I'd picked out at LEAST 50 dead or dying fish from the tanks. No one cared, no one tried to provide care for the sick fish, and the only priority was making sure customers didn't see the issues. Even hardy fish were dropping like flies. One day I went out back to the dumpster and saw a huge koi that had bit the dust. And that's just scratching the surface. Wanna hear more? I wrote down some of the terrible and severely inaccurate things I observed or heard, the night I quit. Behold, stupidity: *Rich, the owner, tried to tell people that "fish poop lowers pH". No, no it does not. *Severe Ammonia Burns - An entire row of tanks had fish suffering and dying, with visible and obvious ammonia burns. I tried telling my co-worker about it. Not only did he have no idea what the issue was (and had no interest in finding out why), but he simply shrugged and said most of the fish would probably die soon. *I was told multiple times to kill fish that weren't already dead, by simply pulling them out of the water and throwing them away. *No care about fish deaths. Didn't take inventory, didn't care whatsoever. Just a shrug and toss them in the trash. *Was told to keep my mouth shut and not engage with customers until I was "determined ready". I did as I was told, and then got complained at that I wasn't engaging with customers and was too quiet. *Rich told people that ammonia is normal and fine in a tank. Again, no, no it is not. For those with minimal fish experience, imagine going swimming in a pool that has a high concentration of bleach in it. *Was given poor advice on a species that was new to me, which got it killed. When I confronted my co-worker who had given me the advice, he shrugged and just said "oh yeah, that can happen". And that's still not everything I could mention. There were also federal violations for workplace conditions, like a toilet that looked original to the building (including the cleanliness status...), installed in a storage closet, with no soap for the ancient sink, and a frequent habit of dumping filthy water in the toilet, which splashed all over. I'm contemplating filing a report with OSHA sometime soon, now that I'm far enough out from having worked there and don't feel like I'd be in danger from doing so. Ultimately, it boils down to this: Rich is a greedy creep who runs a shady and highly unethical business. His only priority is lining his wallet, at the expense of everything else. Please avoid this store like the plague, and shop somewhere reputable that actually cares about fish and is knowledgeable about them. read more

This might be a great local fish store, but we had really lousy luck with the mail order part of this business. So far, the blue jaw trigger, the LTA, and the Watchman goby have all died. When I came to this store and purchased four very expensive fish around $380 I didn't know 3 of them would die from eye pop and ick then infect 6 of my other African cichlids who also ended up dieing. The guy tried to tell me it was my water in my 120 gallon tank so I brought some in and it was perfect water. He tried to tell me he would give me a small percentage off my next purchase of fish, but I will not buy from them again. I lost 9 beautiful 4inch or bigger cichlids. We live in south florida and every time we are within an hour from here we stop in. This is one of our favorite fish stores in florida! They have a huge selection of fish and since they have their own farm what they have is usually quite unique and or interesting. Also once in a while they have larger fish since and i have a 500 gallon aggresive tank thats what i need. Last time we picked up a cute carpintas about 4 inches for 25$ for our growout tank. Time before that we got a gorgeous zonatas for about $80 at about 9 inches. Great spot definitely worth checking out. Hoping one day they expand the variety of cichlids and add some variety like gars, arowanas, and eels etc. Family owned and operated. Service is great you will feel right at home :) read more

It has been 30 yrs since I have had freshwater fish. At that time I had a 10 gallon, 20 gallon, 30 gallon and a 34 gallon with angels and cichlids in the two big tanks. Back then Fishy Business was THE place to get cichlids and it still is. I have seen a wide variety of cichlids from small to monster sized. They even have pairs! I have always been into fresh water. I set up a ten gallon and the a 29 gallon. The ten will be nursery or hospital. My 29 gallon is a lovely planted community tank with spider wood with Anubias (two which were blooming), jungle val, java fern, corkscrew jungle val and a lovely amazon sword. I never had a planted tank and Carissa helped explain how deep to plant and food fertilizer. Now I have new growth on all plants in just a month! They are the ONLY STORE with a huge selection of driftwood, in particular Spider Wood! I got a great piece at an excellent price! Liz has been a great help in selecting my nice peaceful community tank!! No fin nippers and all is peaceful! Doug is an amazing! We got into a discussion regarding using carbon and the link to whole in the head disease! Tell me which big box store would do that. He can help you with so many questions! Now, Rich has been the original owner since I was good looking. That means a very long time ago!!!! Actually, it was 32 yrs ago, when I purchased cichlids all wild caught back then. Was my favorite fish store in Orlando until today. We drive from Belle Isle to Longwood to visit this store but unfortunately showed up at 5:05 not realizing they closed at 5. The doors were open and customers still inside. We decided to just try to take a quick peak to see if anything was worth returning to the store tomorrow. We were greeted immediately by an older gentleman with a beard and were told they were closed even though customers were still in the store. We asked if we could look for 5 minutes and that we had driven 45 minutes to get there he then stated it is what it is rudely , rolled his eyes and we decided to leave and not give him our business.
