Aquatic Paws specializes in aquatic training and exercise for your pet (cats included!) including hydrotherapy, massages, underwater treadmill, and pool sessions! Their business is appointment only so your pet gets 1:1 attention. Once the online form is filled out, you'll receive an email with a welcome letter and price list. There are also packages available with a discounted rate for sessions. Lisa, the owner has been the most kind and patient instructor with Winnie, who has already shown progress by her second lesson! Additionally, she is very responsive through email which is always appreciated. There are plenty of towels (but you should bring one for your car) and you WILL get wet too! 4 minutes of swimming is comparable to 1 minute of running, so this dog mom definitely appreciates a tired pup from time to time! read more

Took my almost 8 month old puppy today to swim at the Chantilly location just for fun since he has never been in a pool. It was so fun to watch and he is currently taking a nice nap since it was also great exercise! Bill was great with Arlo the whole time and I wish I would have found this place sooner! Having a water loving dog I wanted to find a place he could swim without it being a dirty, algae filled pond but I was nervous to just take him to a lake/beach when he hadn't swam before. Don't be mislead that cats don't like water. Aquatic Paws introduces water slowly into the chamber, use life jackets and never allow the water to go above mid chest. This summer weather in DC is just a tad torturous for my furry family! I was excited to check out Aquatic Paws in the Falls Church/ Merrifield area. They are located off Lee Hwy right behind the El Tio Mexican Restaurant. There's plenty of parking around the building. Entrance is behind the main building. They work by appointments only. This gives you an opportunity to customize your visit. In our case, we have 2 dogs so we had the place to ourselves. It was $60 for 45 minutes for both dogs. There is a heated 4 foot pool and a water treadmill. Lisa and staff guided us through our whole visit. Our Nellie is so fearful of water. We started her on the treadmill. She got some exercise and had a chance to experience water. Then she wanted to join her brother in the pool. They have safety vests for the dogs. We were also allowed to join the puppies in the pool. Alex our big dog loves the beach and big pools. He was hesitating with the water steps. They had high quality treats to help motivate our pups down the steps. It's so much fun to be in the water with the dogs. This is excellent for dogs who have recently gone through surgery or are less athletic. Water therapy is ideal for rehabilitation. After the water fun, there is a bath and shower area to clean off the chlorine. The area is also big enough for the pups to play on dry land. We will certainly be back with our furry family! read more

I brought my 10 Month old lab to aquatic paws for some fun / safe learning and play. The facility is quite nice, but it is the staff that makes the experience great for both the owner and the pet. Living in this area, there are creeks and runoff areas to swim, but most people with experience will tell you that these local areas result in some short term health issues for their dogs (diarrhea, ear infections, etc). Enter Aquatic Paws... I believe it was designed initially more for rehabilitation, but wow was it great for a fun visit! I filled out a few online forms before I got there and came prepared to get wet myself. They threw a life jacket on him and let him up the stairs so he was ready to get into the pool. I stood at the edge, thinking I would have to coax him in but before I even got there he did a belly flop and it was pure joy for him from there. He was well supervised by someone in the small pool area and they throw toys, place toys and move toys around to keep your pup swimming with plenty of opportunities for breaks. Once he was comfortable, they took off the vest to see how he did. After an exhausting 20-25 minutes, my pup was dried off by the staff member and given a treat. Such a fun experience and it helped give me confidence that if I find myself by a lake and my dog wants to go for a swim that I can be comfortable. Also, I'm pretty sure that 25 minutes was equivalent to 2 hours of running for him so it was great exercise! read more

I am so impressed with Aquatic Paws. I booked online last minute and Lisa, the owner, immediately reached out to recommend that I switch to the treadmill for my dog's first water experience. My dog is not super fond of water but the staff have really made him feel welcome and comfortable. They don't rush your dog and work on their comfort level. This place is so wonderful. They have two water treadmills and a pool. We started tot ale our puppy there to learn how to be comfortable in the water and swim. He didn't love it but they persevered keeping him in the water and he's eventually grown to love it. Great exercise. read more

Kato, my 9 year old german shepherd has Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) and its been a challenge in many ways. I am very thankful for Lisa and her team at Aquatic Paws. Bottom-line, their services, knowledge, affordable prices, and most of all their compassion made a difference. I understand there is no cure for this, but our dog gets an opportunity to exercise and utilize his back legs in a very therapeutic way that gives longevity to his shorten life span. I took my dog, Noodles, twice to Aquatic Paws for him to swim 30 minutes in the heated pool. It's def a great exercise for your dog and you can test your pets out to see if they like water or not. I knew Noodles likes to swim from our hiking trips so I gave this a try. Def recommended! read more

We went to see Lisa for a few months before my lab was just too sick for exercise. She was amazing working with him to try to build his strength up due to his severe arthritis. Our chubby pug even got some water treadmill work at the same time. I can't recommend Aquatic Paws enough and if i could give her 10 stars it still wouldn't be worthy. Our dog Ferris, a 110-pound Shepherd mix, is 10 years old. And his back legs are weakening, most likely due to spinal stenosis, but could be related to arthritis or even not fully recovering from knee surgery. Cause aside, it was imperative for him to strengthen his back legs. We found Lisa and Aquatic Paws a month ago and I'm so pleased to say Ferris is making significant progress. He is starting to use his back legs to "kick back" after pooping. And he is jumping (pushing off his back legs with both front paws off the ground) a little more too. They are tiny jumps, but oh how awesome it makes you feel that he wants to do those tiny jumps! Don't wait! I took my little buddy Lincoln to Aquatic Paws this weekend to get his first experience with swimming. To this point he's enjoyed playing in streams and barely ventured into the water at the beach, but has not been in water deep enough for him to swim. I want him to be comfortable around and in water, so I thought this would be a good experience for him, and the experience far surpassed my expectations. Not surprisingly, Lincoln was pretty nervous when he was first put into the pool, but Lisa and her husband do a great job of calming the dogs (and the humans as well) during the session. Lincoln quickly became more comfortable and relaxed in the water. Lincoln seemed to enjoy the experience and I enjoyed peace and quite for most of the rest of the day because the 30 minutes of swimming wore him out. I will definitely be going back to work on Lincoln's swimming and for the exercise, especially during the winter. I definitely recommend Aquatic Paws to anyone looking to get their dog some physical rehab or just for the exercise. My senior chow and shepherd mix, Buffy, has hip dysplasia and the arthritis and muscle atrophy that goes along. At the recommendation of her PT Lynn Nalepa at Veterinary Holistic Center, we have been bringing Buffy weekly to work the treadmill with Lisa at Aquatic Paws. It's quite a workout for her! We are moving to 2x week to try and accelerate her progress. Lisa is very kind and works in frequent communication with our PT. Her facility is very comfortable and clearly top quality. Buffy is working hard and her workouts continue to progress. I hope that Aquatic Paws can help us keep her in good quality of life for a long time. read more
