Note: This review covers swim lessons and a birthday party rental…read more Goldfish Swim School does a wonderful job of teaching kids how to swim. That's their bread and butter. But they also do a fantastic job at hosting parties. They are a top notch facility and staff. For swim lessons, they offer 25 min classes at no more than a 4:1 student:teacher ratio. The kids progress along at their own pace, leveling-up when they're ready (could be after one week, one month, or longer). No matter what, the environment is kept fun yet challenging. And the instructors are all very welcoming, accommodating, and encouraging to the kids. For parties, they do an absolutely wonderful job. For a total of two hours (~2/3 in water, 1/3 out) they are as engaged as you want/need them to be or not. After getting all kids safely into the water they ran them through some fun games and then let them swim for a good amount of time with full-access to all toys/floats. After drying off, the kids ate (food needs to be brought in) and had cupcakes (provided). All decorations, setup/cleanup, and goodie bags were provided. It really was a delightful experience that was driven home by the fantastic staff. We couldn't be happier with the swim instruction provided and the recent party we had here at Goldfish Swim School.

It appears the entire staff has changed and with it the warm vibe. The last few weeks my kids have just been swimming back and forth across the lane without much demonstration or apparent guidance from the staff, whether it has been one or two trainers in their lane. The trainers also used to interact warmly with the kids while in the water (or out), now the trainers look bored and interact with the kids minimally and without the same enthusiasm. It is the same facility, but the staff that made it such a wonderful place are gone. My children have always loved their trainers and now have nothing to say about them. I think it is time for us to start looking for a new place for swim lessons.

If you're looking for an indoor tennis membership, Wheaton Sport Center (WSC) is an excellent…read morechoice. They have friendly staff, efficient service, and adequate facilities and equipment. For our family, WSC serves multiple purposes. My husband is an active tennis player who tries to play at least twice a week. Considering how brutally cold Chicago winters are, it wouldn't be feasible to play outdoors during the winter months. So with WSC, he has been able to find a community of players to play throughout the winter. On the weekends, my husband would give our young girls and cousins private tennis lessons. There are four, all year-round, indoor courts, and eight dome courts for the winter. We have been consistently going every weekend for the last four months and have yet to encounter any availability issues. In addition to tennis, our girls have also joined the swimming lessons. For level 3, there are usually 2-4 instructors. Thus far, we have had a good experience with Ms. Abby, Mr. Christopher, and Ms. Christina. The class size is generally around 8-12 kids depending on attendance. Knowing how young children are, it takes a ton of effort and patience to get them to listen to instructions. Huge kudos to these instructors for having that high-level patience! As for myself, I would utilize the gym equipment such as treadmills, ab machines, and weights. All of the equipment are well maintained and clean. WSC could get busy on the weekends but I have not had trouble with machine availability. All in all, WSC is a solid place for anybody looking for a place to play indoor tennis, have young children who are interested in swimming, and/or just trying to maintain healthy life choices.

As stated before, I hardly ever review. I have to feel VERY strongly about someplace before I'll…read morewrite a review. I feel very strongly about this place, and I'm tired of seeing the negative griping reviews about dumb stuff, so now I'll leave an opinion. First of all, yeah, it IS expensive. However, I don't understand why people who are actual members of the club would complain about this. It's not like they tranquilize you, haul you in the door, and then get you to sign a contract that you've never seen the price on. No one makes you hand over the credit card. The price isn't a surprise. There are gyms for everyone, in all price ranges. So here's the deal, if you think it's too expensive, then DON'T PAY FOR IT. Don't complain about it. Just go somewhere else. You can do bare bones ten bucks a month at some local chain gyms. However, I'm pretty sure the people who are complaining about how expensive HT is, would go to one of those and complain about how dirty it is or the lack of amenities or something. Secondly, yeah, there are a lot of kids. Kids are people. They are small people, but they're people nonetheless. We pay dues for our children, just like we pay dues for ourselves, so they have every right to be there. Some of us pay the expensive price BECAUSE of our kids. The child care is stellar. I actually found HT by typing "gyms with child care that doesn't suck" into Google. True story. If you're all good with a teenager in a back room watching your kids, or you don't have kids to watch, then maybe you should go to aforementioned chain gym for ten bucks a month. I digress... The staff genuinely care about the children. They get books and crafts and outdoor play time. Is it really that big of a deal that you can hear happy children playing while you're upstairs? I find the dude trying to lift 50 pounds more than he really can, grunting, yelling, and dropping shit to be far more annoying. BUT! Be glad, for there is a solution. Put in a pair of earbuds and listen to some music. Voila, problem solved. You're welcome. I also find it astonishing that people are complaining because people are *gasp* USING the track. It really sucks that they're in your way. But people are at all levels of fit, and not everyone has your running prowess. Some people walk. Some people jog. Some people run damned fast. Some people walk in pairs. Like everywhere else, if you are coming around a corner, and someone is in your lane, you simply need to call out, "On your left", and people will move over. I know it's hard to accept that you aren't the only person in the world, but well...you're not. And as for the people complaining about the large amounts of fat people and old people, well shame on you. You should be jumping up and down for joy. People are getting fit. Losing weight. Taking care of themselves well into old age. Much less of your precious tax dollars you'll have to spend later on taking care of "sick fat old people". Just sayin'. Clearly, I love this place. The child care staff is great. I can take my toddlers into the pool. I can relax in the hot tub post personal training session. I love that the staff is so hugely diverse - so many different ethnicities, both genders, all sizes, a wide range of ages. The staff is friendly, professional, and fun. The personal trainers are a.m.a.z.i.n.g.!! They'll help you and answer questions, even if you aren't in one of their classes or paying them for private sessions. And when you do sign on, they tailor activities just for you and your skill set, and then they push you hard, past what you could do and into what you are capable of doing. Signing up for personal training sessions was one of the best things I've ever done. There's a salon (Billie gives a mean haircut!) and spa. Hot tubs, two pools, sauna, steam room. There is shampoo, soap, and conditioner in the showers. Towels are provided. There's a pro shop and cafe/juice bar. There are SO MANY classes to choose from. There are, blow dryers, q-tips, deodorant, and combs provided in the locker room. There are several curtained off, private dressing stations in the locker room, as well, for the more modest among us. It's always clean. It's nicely decorated. I really don't understand people who continue to pay and still complain. It's not like getting a shitty meal at a restaurant. You complain. You make your unhappiness known. Then you DON'T GO BACK. Why keep paying the high dues, keep showing up to someplace you obviously think has so many flaws, and keep complaining about it. Of course, you're allowed to not like the place. You're allowed to think they do everything wrong. But if that's the case, then WHY do you go back? Yup. Don't get it. Wow this is long. TL;DR: It's a great place. The dues are high, but as the saying goes, you do get what you pay for. All the people complaining about trivial and petty things are entitled whiny wankers.

Overall, I'm disappointed with the quality of this facility, especially considering how expensive…read morethe membership is. The cold plunge has been unavailable for extended periods, which is frustrating for members who pay to use these amenities. Additionally, much of the exercise equipment feels outdated and could benefit from upgrades. While most of the staff members are friendly and helpful, I believe there is room for improvement in customer service and overall management. Another major concern is the age restrictions on the facility's amenities. Members must be at least 16 to use the therapy pool, cold plunge, and lap pool, while the hot tub requires users to be 18. I find it unreasonable that a 15 year old who is following the rules and not disturbing anyone would be asked to leave these areas simply because of their age. I understand that safety regulations are important, but these restrictions seem unnecessarily strict, especially when younger members could use these amenities with parental consent or adult supervision. I believe management should reconsider these policies and provide more reasonable options for younger members. For the price of a membership, I would expect better equipment, more reliable access to amenities, more reasonable policies, and greater attention to member feedback. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes improvements.

On top of the service getting worse and the facility not being kept up the prices are getting higher. Lastly, they don't mind cancelling on you last minute but if you cancel on them last min that's not allowed or you lose a class. Literally they called me last week to cancel my class on that same call I asked if I can cancel a makeup class so I would have to wearing an almost an hour in between classes and I was told no I would lose that class. "Hold on you literally just cancelled mine but I can't cancel the makeup?" and " I have to wait around for an almost an hour for the next one?" My son (3 years old) LOVES going to his swimming class and enjoys the fact that he has advanced so much. It is very easy to change a class and customer service is very nice. The whole environment is for the child. We like the coloring sheets, tattoos and figures that are available for the students; toys, blackboard... There is just two things that would make this place a 5 stars: -The changing rooms have a mold like smell from people being wet and changing of course. The problem is that the rooms should be dried completely to avoid this. -The safe guards/helpers can get distracted talking to each other, and sometimes have missed little accidents (that could become huge) while the teacher is instructing another child. I have seen it with others and it happened to us directly. This can get resolved by them being more focused/involved. Although this is a business, we always feel welcomed by the staff, we feel like family. When we go in, we feel warm: the air, the water, the people.... Thank you. I updated this review to 5 stars.
