We have been bringing our daughter here for exactly 1 year now. During the summer break last year,…read morewe decided to shop around for swim lessons.I came here and Claire greeted me the moment I open the door, they showed me around and gave a brochure. I called them up the following day to schedule for swim assessment, Coach Ian help us and was very friendly (I heard he moved to another Bear Paddle location, we miss him!) I think most of the teachers are high school or maybe college student, not entirely sure but I like that they are not terrifying and they are very friendly with the kids. My daughter had Coach Marc, Kieran, Megan (there are 2 Megan in their facility and both was able to teach my daughter), I am missing another person. They have helped her move to each level. To my daughter getting into the pool is playtime and at the same she is learning new skills. The lessons that they offer are all basic, I think for older kids they offer like team training. If my daughter wanted to join competitions when she is older I will probably find another location, for now our goal is that she learn the basics. Those goals are being met at Bear Paddle. They recently change the set-up of their lessons: camps, clinics & sessions. I am not too happy as I was hoping my daughter will be able to do summer camp again this year. They have all summer camps in the morning and it didn't give us enough flexibility. I was force to enroll her in a clinic, (twice/week lessons). When she did the summer camps last year, she was able to move up really quick and she was able to memorize the form, kicks, etc. I understand their explanation on why they are doing the change but I think it only benefits the staff in terms of scheduling. Another improvement that they can probably do: (1) grouping the kids by their age & swim level (sometimes I don't understand why my 6 year old is swimming with a teenager already, the kid jumps into the pool and 1 stroke the kid is already at the end of the pool) (2) maybe add more showers and changing rooms. I don't know the other days but in the afternoon there are kids who all finished at the same time and the parents are like scrambling to reserve a shower or changing room. Other than that, I love this facility. My daughter has learn how to swim, she is no longer afraid to jump into the pool (thanks coach Kieran) and she met new friends too!

My son came in knowing nothing about how to swim and he is quickly becoming a really good swimmer…read moreevery one is so friendly I keep recommending them to my friends and family and they are also swimming there I love it and the coaches do so great at helping the kids and working at their pace if they are have a bad day of need a gentle approach

It seems that some of the people on here don't appreciate diversity. I am not one of those people,…read moreand this YMCA isn't that kind of place either. When you come here you are going to see many different types of people from different places and walks of life. It is pretty amazing if you ask me. If you only like to frequent places where people are white, maybe try working out under that rock you came out of. The facility is clean and the staff is very friendly. They have daycare services for free while you are working out. They have "Parents Night Out" nights once a month too I think. The classes are well organized and fun. My children have participated in swim lessons, dance and ballet lessons, and Tae Kwon Do. All of them are amazing and my children had fun while learning something new. Swim lessons are by far the most effective than others in the area. My children took lessons elsewhere for months and were only able to achieve floating. They took a few lessons here and were already seeing progress. They have a large pool, a sauna, a hot tub, and a steam room! It is nice to be able to sit and relax a little after my workout before picking up my kids from the child-care center. They also have open swim hours in the morning and evening which is nice for our hectic schedule. Overall, this is an amazing place, and extremely affordable for the entire family. Highly recommend.

They told us here already that they did not get permit to have a petting zoo, online there was no notifications! They are just liars, do not recommend!!! Waste of time!

The BEST swim instruction in the Fox Valley. Over the last 6 years my son has taken swim lessons…read morefrom several different pools, but DUPAGE gives lessons that focus on PROPER TECHNIQUE and CONDITIONING, and really prepares their swimmers for swim team. They also have a GREAT make-up policy. This has been a sore spot for such a long time with us. If my son got sick he could miss 2-3 lessons in a row. Other places will not let you make-up more than 1 lesson per session, and so those were wasted lessons & $$$'s. Extremely frustrating! The facilities are not the newest and they do get very crowded on weekends. However, for REAL swim lessons this is the place to go & to stick with!

This is an indoor swimming pool offering public lap-swim hours on weekday mornings and afternoons…read more I visited once for approximately 15-20 minutes in January. I understood that I was paying $20 to try the pool and have access for the month. I quickly completed the paperwork, provided a payment card, changed into my swimsuit, and swam a few laps before the open-swim period ended. Life became busy, and I never returned. I assumed I had simply paid $20 for a month I did not fully use--no big deal. Many months later, I received an email stating that anyone who did not want to continue for September needed to cancel by the deadline. Because I had not typically received emails from them and was unaware that I had an ongoing membership, the message seemed odd. After some confusion, I registered for their online portal to see what was happening and discovered they had been withdrawing money every month since January. Those few laps ultimately cost me $160. I understand businesses may offer automatically recurring memberships and that customers are responsible for reading what they sign. However, I did not leave that one brief visit with a clear understanding that I had enrolled in continuing monthly charges. Considering that I never entered the facility again, I hoped management would at least listen to my concern, review the circumstances fairly, and consider some form of resolution. Instead, the response I received was dismissive and unnecessarily hostile. There was no meaningful acknowledgment that I had visited only once, misunderstood the arrangement, and paid for eight months of access I never used. They sent a copy of the document showing my initials and the cancellation policy, refused to consider any refund, and ended the exchange with, "Will there be anything else?" Only afterward did I read the reviews, wishing I had seen them before ever visiting this facility. Judging from so many other customers, the behavior I encountered appears to be shockingly common. The management was callous and downright hostile. I strongly recommend reading the reviews and thinking very carefully before entrusting some very unprofessional people with your financial information. It is incredibly unfortunate that a small community pool is managed with such a deeply troubling approach to customer service.
