My 3 year old daughter has been taking swim lessons at Goldfish since she was 9 months old and absolutely loves it! She looks forward to it every week. We've had several different swim instructors over the years and most have them have been great. She currently is in Fiona's class and she is amazing with the kids! My experience at Goldfish Swim School in Plainfield was extremely disappointing and racially insensitive. After my daughter's swim class 6/26 the manager, Michael, approached me on the pool deck in front of other families & children to accuse her of being "mean" to another child and allegedly using a curse word -- based solely on another child's word, without any investigation or proper handling. My daughter was and IS the only Black child in the class, and it felt clear that she was singled out and blamed without consideration for her side. I asked my daughter on the pool deck, and in the changing room what happened. She is 6 years old and a complete sweet heart who's mean to no one. She let me know that she did not say a bad word and that she only told the girl her and her board were to close to her and to move. Fine. After that we went into Michael's office to speak to him again before leaving because I wanted a better understanding of the situation. Michael tells me the same thing again that my daughter said a bad word and it seems like it was the "A" word and the girl "didn't want to repeat it" to really let us know what that word is, mind you on the pool deck he said she said a bad word but in his office it was she said the A word. he then goes on to say that the girl said my daughter said she was to close and said to move which my daughter said she did say. Later, Michael even admitted that the kids were too close to one another and were all frustrated -- yet mine was the only child held accountable. The way this was handled was completely unprofessional, dismissive, and racially biased. There was no investigation done whatsoever just blame the only black kid in class because that makes sense to do. If your child is a minority, I strongly urge you to be cautious about sending them here. They deserve to feel safe and respected -- not unfairly targeted or humiliated in public. read more

I took my daughter here for swim lessons for about a year. She transitioned from the parent class to being on her own with the coach. This was going great until she got a new coach. She was crying during lessons, didn't want to go anymore, etc. She has never been one who likes putting her face in the water so we always told her to just let the coach know she didn't want that. She could conquer that fear when she's ready. The coach was still dunking her. The next lesson I walked her in there and stayed to hear the conversation myself. 3 yo: "Hi Coach. I don't want to put my face in the water" Coach just smiled and turned away. Me: "Did you hear her?" Coach: "yes but you want me to do it anyway, right?" Me: "No!" Fast forward to my 4.5 yo who still doesn't want to do swim lessons, is actually terrified of the water. We have a pool and she doesn't even want to go in it. I'm all for challenging kids and pushing them out of their comfort zone but swimming is a necessary life skill that should be fun and engaging for kids to learn. Especially at the younger ages where a lot of things are new and potentially scary. The school reached out with a "we want you back" email. I wrote to them about what happened and I haven't heard a single thing. Will not be taking my kids there and would not recommend. read more

I will find a more compassionate facility for my grandchildren than what your lifeguards exhibit, thank you! My point in all this is just to warn the community that your facility has different "policies" for different people! I'm all about following rules and policies but don't tolerate when I'm being treated differently than the others. Rules are for ALL to follow not just for YOUR select ones. Also, as I stated earlier, I'm a former 30+ year teacher who has attended your facility for 8 years on a regular basis. When I mentioned your lifeguard harassing me and running around the pool to listen to my conversations with the other parents on two occasions, you don't seem concerned and you listen to her (a maybe 16/17yo) and check things out for yourself. Our kids have been students at the goldfish swim school in Plainfield for a couple months now and we really enjoy it there. They are very informative, they take their time with each child, and the swim instructors are all so friendly. My 3 year old was so upset the other day when his normal instructor Miranda was off because he absolutely adores her! She is wonderful with the younger kids! Needless to say, her replacement did an excellent job and my son was smiling ear to ear in no time. I certainly understand all the concerns with COVID but if you are on the fence about coming here, I can assure you that they do everything possible to keep the place clean and safe. Masks are required for everyone, they are constantly wiping down every surface, the changing rooms are cleaned between each use, temperatures are checked upon entry, etc. They don't cut any corners! read more

Birthday party review only!! This is a hard review to write, because I'm all over the place on my commentary. Start with the good! This was my first time at Goldfish, and it was FAR cuter than I expected. Themed, huge pool area, and the little touches were excellent: all glass windows so you can view the party/lessons, the changing areas were perfect and the ledge around the pool was fantastic for beginning swimmers. The front desk staff that were there were so genuinely sweet! They helped serve the food for the party and were so courteous and friendly. The pool itself felt massive - lots of floats and raft type devices that were fun for the kids to play with. However(!), when we first went into the pool area, I was surprised that for the size of the pool and amount of children there, that there was only one lifeguard. I was encouraged and reassured that I could leave the pool area and watch from behind the glass area. No less than five minutes into the party, another parent jumped IN the pool, clothes and all, to pull his child out of the water. I was in shock when it happened and did not want to leave after seeing that. The lifeguard did not check on the child or with the parent either, which was even more mystifying to me. With the exception of that incident, it was a great time, but the image of a fully-clothed parent jumping in the water can't leave my memory. read more

Poor cutomer service. Constent run around and being placed on hold. Once employee is willing to take information I was informed that only a supervisor can process claim. Supervisor was not available and was told I would get a call back which did not happen. Called the next day to just to be told request cant be process over the phone and needed be be done in person. Completed process in person just to have process not go through and needing to go through russian roulette of trying to get assistance all over again. My children have been attending classes at Goldfish for 2 years and we absolutely love the teachers there! Ms. Addison has been a great teacher for my son that's a bit more timid. She was able to really get him out of his shell with her patience. Mr. Michael is an amazing teacher when I need to do a makeup class! My son looks forward to classes with him! They both take the time to really work with him with exceptional detail. I would recommend both of them to anyone looking to join Goldfish swim school. read more

I have seen my daughter grow leaps and bounds as a swimmer over the last 2 years. Staff is friendly and good with kids. They are also very accommodating. I accidentally messed up my daughter's lesson time and they still got her in the pool. An extra teacher gave her a one on one lesson! read more

These people are out of control with the mask enforcement. The swim instruction is ok but they're more concerned that parents waiting are fully masked up. The lifeguard walking around will leave the pool area to make sure everyone is wearing their mask correctly. UNREAL! read more

We have been coming here for about 4 months now and we love it. The set up they have with check in, the changing rooms, sitting area for parents and the swim lanes is great. We have taken swim lessons at another place in the area and Goldfish is leaps and bounds better. The front desk is always friendly when I call or when we come in. They go above and beyond when rescheduling lessons and trying to accommodate new lesson times. My daughter feels very comfortable with her teacher and is making great progress. She loves that I can sit close to the window by her lane and watch her lesson. They also call parents in for the last 5 minutes of each lesson for the teacher to provide a progress report. Nice swimming school for very young kids, I think that kids that already know the basics and are a little bit older don't get enough practice, the lane is super short, 4 strokes and you are done. I suggest that you change the set up for more advance students and older kids, and by older I mean 8 and up. In my opinion the set up is more for toddlers and not for up to age 12 as advertised. One plus for younger kids, is that the water is actually very warm, they said they keep it at 90F. Real swimmers cannot swim in 90F, so definitely the set up is for toddlers. read more

For the most part this swim school is great. Everyone is friendly and my son has learned a lot from going the past year. We started when he was 2 in the mini 2 classes and moved up to mini 3 when he turned 3. The only reason I give 4 stars is because some of the instructors we have gotten on casuals or make ups have been less than awesome. Most instructors are really helpful and my kid learns a ton like Natalie, Leena, and Addison L. However, we have had an experience or two with not so great instructors. read more

UPDATE: This location has gone out of their way and above and beyond on several occasions to help with make-up classes and other issues. This is a busy place with lots of students but they have proven to be an excellent, conscientious, business that I would send friends to. Nicely built out facility, very young kid friendly. Well maintained and clean throughout. Enthusiastic staff/instructors who are all fairly young themselves. This seems to work well for the student/teacher relationship as the kids feel like they are being taught by peers. Classes are 30 min and in our case there are 5 total kids in our swim lane which has 1 instructor. Lanes are very short in length which is excellent for young new swimmers. I'd suggest this school for any skill level, their methods seem to work well. read more

Wonderful classes with great instructors! We've been taking our daughter 6 months. We started with the mommy and me class with Ms Kianna. That class allowed our daughter to have fun and learn to be comfortable in the water using toys and songs. Once Ms Kianna felt we could move our daughter up a level she let us know. Ms Kianna was such a great instructor (has left to pursue other career goals). At 22 months we went to the mini 3 class and had Ms Addison. She was absolutely wonderful with our daughter. She has learned how to sit on the edge of the pool and listen to instructions. Floats with assistance, blows bubbles, swims to the edge of the pool, climbs out with some assistance, Superman glides, kicks and reaches and pulls to swim semi assisted. Highly recommend this school. The only downer is the lack of changing rooms if you have a busy weekend class. But everyone is polite, kind, helpful. Worth the investment. read more

We have been patrons for over a year and loved the school! However they have not had hot shower water for over two weeks! They service children as young as 4 months and you couldn't even bath your child to rinse the chlorine off. They sent a letter stating they were trying to repair it! They are being cheap and should have replaced the heater two weeks ago. Families pay at a minimum of 80$ a child and this is the ridiculous, unprofessional service we get. It is really sad the money managers made a decision to be cheap when it comes to servicing the patrons who pay their bills. Get it together and fix the hot water !!!! read more

We love the small class size and the one on one attention. It's great that the instructors have a personal relationship with each child and each session there is a small 5 minute window where the instructors tell the parents how their child has improved and what they are working on. My kids loved learning swimming here this past Summer. The manager and instructors are all very nice, helpful and understanding. The best part of this place is that there no pressure to make up the classes, they give plenty of time and do everything to accommodate the needs.
