A little roadside adventure at Casa de Fruta! On our way…read morehome from the coast, we spotted Casa de Fruta and just had to stop! The roadside appeal was fantastic and definitely caught our attention! We decided to grab some lunch and, of course, couldn't leave without checking out the gift shop for a bottle of wine. We were seated pretty quickly and our food came out in a reasonable amount of time, but unfortunately, the service was a bit underwhelming. Our waitress never really checked back with us, and we eventually had to flag someone down just to get a refill. BUT... the outside of this place is AMAZING! There is so much to see and do! A beautiful pond, water wheel, train, carousel and plenty of fun things to explore. It really makes for a great little stop while traveling. The gift shop was fun to wander through too, with wine, nuts, dried fruits and all kinds of cute little knick-knacks. We'll definitely stop at Casa de Fruta again when we're passing through--but next time, we'll probably skip the restaurant and stick to exploring, shopping and enjoying the scenery! Another fun little stop added to our California adventures!

They finally closed down their old restrooms and upgraded to a large style restroom building that can accommodate multiple people at once. In the men's restroom, there are multiple stalls and urinals available now, which is a huge improvement compared to what they used to have with that small, tiny restroom by the parking area. The service was good overall. There are a lot of younger employees working there, and while most of them were very enthusiastic, the some just seemed like they were just there, but I have no real complaints about the experience. I would definitely recommend coming to visit and relax here during your road trip since there is a little something for everyone to enjoy.

They also had some really nice gift baskets with the above mentioned offerings. I was told that this location in McHenry Village is temporary, just for the holiday season. I purchased some pistachios and a peach pepper sauce that can be served over cream cheese as a spread for crackers or bread. That contrast made me realize how important it is to give credit where it's due, especially after calling out bad service somewhere else. Sunnyside absolutely deserves praise. From the moment we walked in we were met with kind helpful people who were actually attentive and happy to assist. There was no attitude or indifference, just friendly efficient service. The team here clearly cares about what they do and about the customers walking through the door. The produce is fresh vibrant and well-organized, with a great mix of organic and local options that are thoughtfully stocked. Everything looked clean and cared for from the shelves to the displays, and it made shopping here feel relaxed and enjoyable. The prices are solid too, better than most other local places when you factor in the quality. It does not feel overpriced, and you actually leave with the sense that you got value for your money. A few of the items that we purchased were bargain-priced. For instance, we got four gigantic fresh and sweet navel oranges for only 75-cents/lb., tasty white corn on the cob (4/$1, for the first 12), and small avocados (10/$1, limit 20). We also got yummy fresh apricots, pecans in their hard shells, and quite a few bags of roasted nuts for snacking. The market was clean and well-organized, and the young woman at the check-out counter was very friendly. After checking out, we enjoyed some apricots at one of their roadside picnic tables that was set up next to a small garden. Parking was sufficient, even for our small class B RV.

The first thing I noticed before entering the market, was the freezer compartment chock full of Marianne's Ice Cream! Unfortunately, we didn't have a cooler in our trunk to keep any frozen goods cold, so we had to forgo buying Marianne's. The market is bright, clean, and full of beautiful produce and other staples. Cashier was friendly.
