Great stuff here but standoffish service for friendly travelers. Borderline rude!

Good location off highway 152 (near I5) The worker here was really something. You don't want the cash? I spent $46 but would have spent more if not for her. Anyways... They have porta potties at the back a short walk away if you really need to go. Some cool finds. Habanero olive oil ($20!) I had not seen before and it is from Modesto! Kind of local. Anxious to try that as I Iove hot stuff. Cool jerkies at decent prices. We got gater, wild boar, venison and elk to try. A big bag of salted cashews. A few apricots and some peach jam too. All yummy things. Some fruit was presented out front. I would not say the freshest though. The cherries were just too expensive as the season is ending, I suppose. Would come back but not armed with any usual hellos or extra friendliness as it is just not appreciated here.

This is Pineapple with Mango Juice (not Mango with Pineapple Juice), it's a sweet delicious treat.

This is a friendly little pit-stop between LA and SF. The guy running the place was really nice. The "Beef Jerky" they offer, although exotic meats, are pre-packaged, so not unique or home made fresh as I assumed and thought. Their nuts are good as are their dried fruit. The prices are okay too. I'd come back here if conveniently in the area and craving a snack, but it's not really a destination retailer I'd make it a point to always visit or crave going to. They have a bathroom, but it consists of an outhouse, so if you're a guy going #1, that's bearable, but if you're a lady or need to do #2, then try to hold it and move on to find other options.

I've passed by this fruit & nut stand several times on my way to/from Merced, but today was my last drive, so I decided to make the stop. This stand actually has a street (Hilldale Ave) that you can turn into and use to get back onto 152 without making all the high-speed cars mad. Unlike most fruit stands I've been to, this stand has more than 5 things to offer. The produce is reasonably priced, but the nuts are what I went inside for. I was pleasantly surprised to find all sorts of prepared nuts, from butter toffee almonds to garlic pistachios to Japanese peanuts and more. There were also a lot of dried fruits. It was almost like Casa de Fruta, but much cheaper! Compare $12.99/lb for Casa de Fruta's butter toffee almonds to $6.99/lb for this stand's. I came out with a pound each of butter toffee almonds, honey and cinnamon roasted almonds, and Japanese peanuts for $17. Next time I drive Pacheco Pass Highway, I'm definitely making another stop here.

    Soooo good

Best nuts and fruit in town. I was living there for a year on a job in town. No better place and the guy who owns it is the best!!

4 stars for Casa De Fruta & 5 PHENOMENAL STARS FOR RIC!!!!!!!…read more My family and I have driven past Casa De Fruta on numerous occasions and never thought to stop by and check it out. Located in Hollister, this is a well known family owned attraction. Here you will find a market, a restaurant, and some fun kiddy attractions. The attractions are what brought my family and I here. After seeing social media posts about the activities, I knew I had to take my toddler here to explore. Fun attractions available are: 1) Casa de ChooChoo 2) Casa de Carousel 3) Gem Mining 4) Casa de Playground [a whole playground kiddy structure] We purchased tickets for the carousel and the train ride. The carousel seemed a little outdated and could use a little bit of maintenance. some of the seating rocked a bit- nothing unsafe but definitely had some unexpected movement. Casa de ChooChoo was by far our most favorite attraction. At $5 a ticket, this little train takes you all around the property. This was a good 12 minute ride so you aren't rushed to get the next load of riders on. The views aren't anything amazing but the seating is comfortable and you get a nice break from being on your feet. Popular purchasing staples include: fresh produce, dried fruits, spiced or candied nuts, & CDF's pomegranate wine. We walked away with some pink pineapple, assorted jerky, candy, & caramel apple. I'll have to come back and try their pomegranate wine again because of all the raving- I got a bottle a few years back as a gift but didn't enjoy it at all. Hopefully my palate has become more refined with time. LMAO! Shout out to Ric. Thank you for the delicious samples and even better convo!! You shine in a store full of staff, you are my favorite part of my very first visit to Casa De Fruta.

I happened to glance over to the space formerly occupied by Skraps, the doggie boutique (R.I.P.). I noticed a sign for Stewart & Jasper Orchards Company Store. I headed on over to see what this new store had to offer. They had display upon display of glazed & seasoned nuts, gourmet chocolate almonds, dried fruit, preserves & fruit sauces and bread dipper oil & vinegar. They also had some really nice gift baskets with the above mentioned offerings. I was told that this location in McHenry Village is temporary, just for the holiday season. I purchased some pistachios and a peach pepper sauce that can be served over cream cheese as a spread for crackers or bread. MMMM If you're looking for a gift of food for the holidays, you may want to visit Stewart & Jasper Company Store. Be sure to try a sample of the flavored almonds. Yummy!

But right afterward we came to Sunnyside Produce and the difference was night and day. That contrast made me realize how important it is to give credit where it's due, especially after calling out bad service somewhere else. Sunnyside absolutely deserves praise. From the moment we walked in we were met with kind helpful people who were actually attentive and happy to assist. There was no attitude or indifference, just friendly efficient service. The team here clearly cares about what they do and about the customers walking through the door. The produce is fresh vibrant and well-organized, with a great mix of organic and local options that are thoughtfully stocked. Everything looked clean and cared for from the shelves to the displays, and it made shopping here feel relaxed and enjoyable. The prices are solid too, better than most other local places when you factor in the quality. It does not feel overpriced, and you actually leave with the sense that you got value for your money. What stood out the most to me is the atmosphere. This place has a soul. You are not just shopping, you are being welcomed. That is rare. After our visit I felt like this review needed to be written not just to balance out a negative one, but because Sunnyside Produce genuinely deserves recognition for doing things right. If you are looking for a place with real service, real food, and real people, this is it.

This recent visit was disappointing enough that I feel it needs to be shared. Customer service was noticeably lacking. When we got to the front of the line and realized we forgot something, the woman at the register rolled her eyes and let out an audible sigh, even though no one else was in line. It felt unnecessarily rude. Throughout the store, employees were unhelpful and unapproachable. We tried to ask a question to a young tall man who clearly worked there, but he completely ignored us and just kept walking. Later, we asked a Hispanic man working in the back for help, and instead of answering, he gave us an annoyed look and walked away. It was uncomfortable and made us feel like we were a bother just for asking. To top it off, one of the two avocados we bought was completely rotten inside. The store itself didn't feel clean. Shelves had layers of dust, and we wandered around without a single person offering to help. Prices were shockingly high, especially considering the poor experience. Nob Hill is just down the road and offers better service, better prices, and a cleaner environment. I usually don't leave reviews unless something is exceptionally good or clearly disappointing. Unfortunately, this was the latter. I hope they get their act together, because this used to be a decent spot. But right now, I can't recommend it to anyone.
