I have an older property in Modesto that had a sewer backup in the alley (city's right-of-way). The City of Modesto has a cost-sharing program for sewer repairs in the city's right-of-way, but one of the conditions is that three bids be received from vendors pre-screened and authorized by the City. Applegate was one of the dozen or so approved contractors. So I contacted them for a bid. Over the course of SIX WEEKS--THAT'S 45 DAYS!--I called and spoke to them to request a bid. This was for a $3,000-$4,000 project, mind you. Each time I called, the answer was the same: "..oh, you didn't get the bid? OK, I'll send it over to you right away." And each time, no bid. I called over 10 times, once every few days, just to request a bid. I even involved City Public Works officials over the cost-share program. They even called several times, but couldn't even get a big from these guys! Meanwhile, my tree-root-infested sewer line remained backed up for months, the entire project held up just because they couldn't even apply for the job. If they had the sense to complete a bid and if it had been the lowest of the three, they would have had a big sewer repair job. Instead? A poor review on Yelp. read more

Don't pay him until you know everything is done right. His crew broke my sprinkler lines and wires, told me he would come Friday, didn't come or even call. i called him said they would come Monday. Didn't come or call. Now he won't answer our calls. i have left 4 messages and my wife 3. I am now 3 week for this lousy business man. I bid this "tie in" project to 8 qualified bidders, of which Applegate was one. The price they quoted was the most cost-effective for my budget, so I contracted with Applegate Septic and Sewer. Not knowing much about what had to be done, Owner Greg Applegate walked me through every step. He met me at the City of Modesto, talked to all city staff and lined everything up. He started when he said he would start, and he finished right on time as well. The work he and his crew did was exceptional. I called Applegate because my septic was backing up. Greg came out and gave me a quote to dig up my distribution box and diagnosis the problem. He didn't show up on the scheduled date and didn't bother calling. A few days later he calls me and asks if I still needed the work done. Like a fool I rescheduled another appointment and took the day off. You know what happened, again he didn't show up or call and my calls went to voicemail. What a waste and a terribly run business.
