They are refreshing and easy to drink, I easily consider the first 3 to be "porch pounders", and though they pair great with food they can be enjoyed alone as well. Lucas, the winemaker for Koch was there and provided our tasting. We enjoyed his company and level of service, he made us feel at home the entire time. Lucas was also kind enough to give us an early taste of some of the wines still in barrels and to offer us some of their upcoming empanada tastings. It was nice to feel amongst friends and be in a relaxed setting and the whole experience was awesome! The tasting room is on the family property where there are animals and farming, it has a beautiful view of vineyards and the east outskirts of Petaluma. We also confirmed beforehand that they are pet friendly so we were able to take our little macaw with us. She enjoyed a delicious strawberry that was grown on the property. If you plan to bring a dog, there are two great pyrenees that are guarding sheep and pigs behind an electric fence, they are super friendly and won't bother, but just something to note for other dog owners. If you enjoy great wine and a homey environment and friendly service I definitely recommend visiting Koch Family Vineyards. They are currently open Wednesday - Sunday, 11am - 7pm so there's no pressure of having to make the winery before 3 or 4pm like most places. I called ahead today (Saturday) to check and they were happy to send someone over for a tasting. We tried all 4 ciders and all 4 aperitifs. I liked the raspberry cider and the semi dry champagne yeast cider as well as the blood orange, strawberry and citrus aperitifs. Their house dog is super cute too. Definitely recommended!

Heidrun is one of your must visits if you're makinga trip up along the Highway 1 coast. Take that PTO and visit on a weekday where you basically have the entire place to yourself. The meadery is easily accessible, lots of parking (not much shade for the cars though), restrooms, and lots of outdoor seating great for the kids and dogs. I went with the seasonal tasting flight, and there's a an essentials one both for $25 value. If you buy three bottles of meads you get your tasting fee comp'd which is so great. I absolutely loved the seasonal flight, as I am all for unique and unforgettable flavors. The sage blossom is absolutely refreshing and so delicious, a great refreshing start to the flight. The chokeberry was very different, it's like a cousin to the cranberry. And the carrot blossom had a little spicy punch to it at the tail end of the sip. Everything was so delightful, effervescent and playful. There were a lot of Oregonian flower meads on this seasonal flight, which was very cool. They also sell so many cute trinkets that you can bring home as gifts, from fresh local honey from the farm to hand-watercolored cards to beeswax lotion and packets of wildflower seeds. It was so hard to not buy anything. Bring a book and sit in the shade, or come with a huge group of friends. Either way you're in for a bubbly good time.

There is an abundance of blooming flowers everywhere, and even a small beehive tucked away in the bushes. We did the tasting for $25 with 4 pours of mead. I was very impressed with the depth and variety of flavors; each pour tasted completely different from the next! Heidrun comps 1 tasting for 3 bottles purchased, which was a nice addition. Our hostesses were super sweet and chill. They were more than happy to explain a little bit about the meads and answer our questions. Would definitely stop by here again! :)

You get a good amount of time petting the Buffalos, and like a dog they love those belly rubs, ear scratches etc. You then follow up with a nice tasting of the cheese with some fresh tomato, basil etc. The tour is pretty focused on these 2 things which is fine with me. Not a ton of area to run around a roam but you really don't need or want to. I'd highly recommend taking this tour - With the petting and tasting I feel the price is reasonable and you have the opportunity to buy cheese to take home, which I did. Not too mention you're supporting a local non-franchise establishment which I'm always a fan of.
