Dina at the bar gave us prompt, concise service in a very professional manner. Only place in town open New Year's Day but wasn't too busy. We had Neighborhood Nachos and Pick 3 Appetizers. Nachos were great. Guacamole had me nervous with a little discoloration but tasted good. Riblets were good, boneless chicken wings were nuggets that were not eaten, and waffle fries which were inconsistent, half great, half cold and hard. Comfortable at the bar. read more

Loved the place. Best Applebee's in my experience. I usually order the quesadilla burger, and this one just seemed better than usual. Service was lovely. I asked to speak to the manager, Janet, who was gracious and professional. I have read articles that say Applebee's is failing, but I don't think that is accurate. The "Honey Mustard Chicken Sandwich" was scrumptious, and the Classic Fries were wonderful! But, they [ initially] failed to add 'SPICY or ZESTY' to the product description; something that I discovered 3 bites into this most delicious, crispy, breaded chicken breast, topped with several strips of Applewood-smoked bacon. The menu photo of this delectable offering doesn't do it justice. Yet, there is one thing of note; the spicy honey mustard oozing out from under the lettuce, out across the bottom Brioche bun. Unfortunately as a result, the bottom bun turns to mush in your hands, before you're halfway done with this sandwich. I spoke with a manager, to make her aware of my concerns, but ultimate satisfaction. I suggested some sort of barrier between the mustard and the bun. She thanked me for my comments; and mentioned that the mustard directly on the bottom bun was something new that corporate had 'cooked up'. (My pun added). No adjustment to our tab was offered. It appeared that they were somewhat shorthanded, but the staff was doing their best to keep on top of things. I checked the online menu today, and it is now appropriately called the 'NEW SPICY HONEY MUSTARD CHICKEN SANDWICH'. But alas, the honey mustard still appears to be running amok across the bottom bun! read more

I'm strictly basing the 2 stars on the fact theyvdiscontinued the Orange Chicken Bowl. It was THE BEST orange chicken I have ever tasted! I called corporate to Express my disdain and spoke to a woman who was interested in my disappointment. Phone calls and feedback are absolutely taken seriously. I also want to add that Applebees has delicious food and is still one of the best restaurants to visit! Be sure to tell your server at the beginning before you even order that you are expecting your food to be steaming hot if it's a hot dish, prompt courteous service as well because you don't want any reason to have to get a visit from a manager to take something off the bill. I speak from experience, set that expectation from the get go. If all goes well, leave a generous tip. The servers rely on it. A 20%or higher tip in cash goes a long way. read more

The food is good, once and if you finally get it. Been there twice now, hoping the first experience was a fluke. Sadly, no. The second was better, but, the service is SERIOUSLY lacking here. If you have a time crunch, DO NOT go here. The first time we were there for probably 2+ hours, after waiting for them to make 2 meals they forgot, after making us wait for at least 40 to 45 minutes to even bring them the first time. In the managers defense, he did comp the meals that they forgot, after the waitress was too 'confused' to understand what we meant by not having them.. just a disaster. i ordered the burbon street chicken which is something i always like. tonight it was terrible. the potatoes tasted like paste and the chicken and shrimp tasted very off like it was spoiled or something. also ordered wonton tacos which are usually a huge hit and these were also very off. the shell tasted like glue. very disappointing. read more

Waited too long for a greet and drinks, food was on the cold side. Asked for a manager, yet watched him and 3 servers stand in the corner pointing and watching us. Took him 15 minutes to approach. What a disappointment, concept of Applebee's is pretty simple and the food is prepped. Why is it so difficult to deliver it hot and clean the restaurant? I went here a total of four times 3, were not my idea. Out of the four times 2 were curbside where not only was my order wrong but I had to get out of my car cause I waited longer than 15 minutes. Yesterday we went to Applebee's and it was the worst waitress experience we ever had. she forgot to put our appetizer in, after we were waiting 40 min STARVING. It took 30 min just to get our drinks. so we ended up getting her food way before even though that took an hour just to get the food, and they forgot to put cheese on my cheeseburger by that time we were just starving so I eat it with a cold price of cheese she brought out on a plate. 20 minutes after our food I came out she finally brought the appetizer I asked her for more napkins and she seem to forget. She took my fiancé's beer away from the table before he was even finished drinking it. also she gave us the bill and then said good night and never came back for a card forcing us to leave cash. I am literally shocked they didn't give us free dessert or at least knock off our appetizer since she made so many mistakes. We left absolutely shocked and will definitely let our friends know because we are usually regulars. $50 for shitty food & service? No thanks we will go to McDonald's next time read more

Table for 9 after commencement. Restaurant about 1/2 full. Took an hour to get served. Food was not hit so must have sat for a while. Waitress was pretty rude when anyone complained about the length of wait or quality of food. Manager not much nicer. Best part was the comp, though. They were to remove 1 $10 entree but instead comped 3 of them for a total of $30. Realized their mistake but had already given us the bill. Oh well. read more

The service was very slow (not a terribly busy weeknight--we were fairly early; about 5:30). My chicken meal was very disappointing-similar in quality to fast food at at least twice the price. CURBSIDE Review: The waitress for curbside was very kind and helpful. I am just disappointed in the amount of food (especially sides) that was dusted across the bottom of the container. I had an extra 15 minute wait from the time they had me show up. There was no silverware or napkins that I asked for and the food was cold. All this said the main dishes tasted ok but I wouldn't recommend takeout from here. Not Recommended. read more

Curb side is a joke I parked in the curbside spot an ordered my food they said 20 minutes it was 9:46 20 minutes went but another 20 went by so I called and said am I doing something wrong I've been outside for 45 minutes. They said oh we don't come outside for curbside after 9:00 THAT WOULDVE BEEN NICE TI KNOW, they said come in and get food. I normally give the benefit of the doubt to waitresses or waiters, but at some point a draw a line. I had two friends who joined me for dinner yesterday. The host was incredibly friendly and she was the highlight of the visit. We sat down and our waitress started off friendly. We ordered our drinks and I had ordered a chocolate milkshake. It arrived at the table melted and running down the sides. No big deal, it happens. But our waitress only gave us two napkins and we couldn't get her attention to ask for more because she was busy talking to her friends at the bar. Our food comes and they were incredibly small portions for paying $50.00. The food was not that great to begin with. Our waitress was rarely seen. My friend didn't get a refill on her drink so she didn't have a drink for dinner. So, we gave her a small tip. When she noticed our small tip, she threw the receipt on the table and quickly scurried away. We had ordered dessert to go. I ordered their lava cake which came with ice cream. I saved the ice cream for today and low and behold, there was something green in my ice cream. I gagged and threw it away. This was one of the worst dinner experiences that I have had. It's sad because I used to enjoy going to Applebees. read more

new restaurant, new staff, lots of problems. but there's hope. i came with average expectations, and they were not met tonight. +1 for being busy only a few days after opening. glad to see a decent restaurant entering this area. +1 for being told that it would only be a couple of minutes for our party of 4. -1 for it taking more like 20 minutes to be seated. no problem, just tell us that up front. +1 for modern decor. this applebee's was more modern than any applebee's that i've been to. almost ... dare i say it ... classy ... at least for western PA. -1 for no silverware on the table -1 for not bringing straws ... even when we asked -1 for doing refills strangely. it's safe to assume that, if our glass is low, that we want a refill. no need to ask. also, feel free to refill our water in the same glass. no need to bring 4 fresh waters to our table. +1 for half-price appetizers tonight. bonus. +0 for decent green bean crispers (fried). the serving size was small, but, i guess i only paid half-price. it works out, eh? +1 for great pretzels. -1 the only problem is that we announced a garlic/onion allergy at the table, and they assured us that the pretzels were safe. however, we're pretty sure the pretzels were dusted with garlic powder. -1 for taking about 50 minutes to get our food after ordering. in the time that we were waiting, the table next to us were seated, ordered, and ate half of their entrées. yikes. +1 for good breaded orange chicken. i enjoyed it. -1 for bringing the wrong dressing with our uncle's chicken salad. ranch dressing didn't go well with his entree. he was gracious, and just asked for two cups of the normal dressing to mix in it. this should have been made right. -1 for bring onions on my fiancée's entree. she originally asked that her portobello chicken entree be served without red onions. so, the kitchen took it back and removed *both* the onions *and* mushrooms. just chicken remained. so much for portobello chicken. -1 we asked (again) that the mushrooms be re-added. it seemed reasonable, considering the name of the entree. it took over 30 minutes, and no mushrooms. finally, after we were all done eating, our server brought a plate with 5 or 6 thin slices of mushrooms. we literally busted into laughter. embarrassing. -1 for the mushrooms not even being portobello. lame. -1 for our server making excuses. we totally understand that it's a new restaurant, and most of the staff if untrained. but please, don't throw your coworkers under the bus. highly unprofessional. seems like there are some communication issues amongst the staff. -1 for bathrooms needing attention -1 for having 5 staffers stand at the entrance, talking amongst themselves the entire time. this is fine, except that the rest of the restaurant was in a frenzy. seems like a management problem. -1 for not having any management checking with any tables. our table was not the only table nearby having problems. there was a manager standing near the bar, not talking to anyone the entire time. strange. all in all, it was kind of a laughable experience. we paid our bill and tipped well. we're confident that the problems will eventually smooth out. but until then, bring an extra dose of patience along with your credit card. read more

One word. Games. My games were taken from me unlawfully by our waitress. It all started when I used the call server button on the tablets provided at our table to call our server (obviously). I had forgotten to order food since she had skipped over me entirely and I wanted to eat. She still wasn't coming so I pressed it again, and she came and I ordered and all was well. But she had never gotten a drink for another person at our table so we had to press the button again. She came back over and that was resolved. Then all of a sudden, another waitress or manager came around and told us to stop pressing the button because they were getting upset in the kitchen. We apologized (even though we did nothing wrong) and thought all was ok. Until our original waitress came over and took our tablet away entirely, and put it at a different table. Now this wouldn't have been a big deal if I hadn't of paid 2 dollars for unlimited access to the games available on the tablet. I was angered beyond belief, and that is why I'm writing this review. I paid money for games I barely got to play. This Applebee's is trash, do not go there. read more

I had the pepper crusted sirloin with a Caesar salad. The Caesar salad was great but the pepper crusted sirloin tasted like there might have been some stale barley or another bean that detracted from the taste. The steak was done to my taste and 4 ounces was sufficient to stay at a healthy portion. The service to my table was exceptional. The kitchen service was a little on the slow side. With the questionable seasoning of the steak dish and borderline slow kitchen service, I had to put this at three instead of four stars. read more

This applebees was one of the worse serviced areas i have been to! The waitress was kinda rude and only came around when she had to give us our food. Normally when you go to a restaurant and you finish your drink and your waitress comes to your table she asks if you need a refill. I finished my drink during the appetizer and didnt have anything to drink during my meal! The waitress just kept sitting at the bar and talking to the other waitresses. And we werent the only people in the restaurant its was fairly packed. So naturally shitty service=shitty tip and when she saw what tip i gave her she threw the receipt on the table and quickly ran away. Not to mention my friends drink (chocolate milkshake) was filled too much and spilling everywhere and she didnt give us any napkins for it she just shrugged it off. And only gave us 2 sets of silverware for the appetizers when there was 3 people at our table. So i feel like i wont be back and i suggest you all do the same. read more

We've visited several times at several different times of the day. It has been busy every single time. Mind you, I'm not complaining, it's good to see a business doing so well in New Castle. The wait staff has been steadily improving since opening...working out the bugs. We've had a manager stop at our table every single time that we've visited to check on us. There have been hiccups, we waited once for an hour for our food, the manger comped our entrees because of it. It's safe to say that we will return. We'd like to see more such restaurants in our area so we will continue to patronize this Applebees. The only thing that may sway our decision to patronize this one as opposed to the one in Hermitage (about 10 miles away) is if they don't participate in the Veterans Day program. The one in Hermitge offers free meals to Veterans on Veterans Day. While we ourselves are not Veterans and do not benefit from the program, we strongly support our Military and Veterans and we make a point of patronizing businesses that do as well. Make sure to try the Green Bean Crispers and Pretzel appetizers...they're delish! read more

Crappiest place in town. Maybe such a small town is used to horrible service and below par food but the rest of the world isn't. Always had the worst service when I went in, and even recieved burnt food once. But I gave it one last shot tonight. I ordered a to go burger and was waiting in my car. The bill was 10.06 and I only had a nickel. I politely asked the woman if she had an extra penny so I wouldn't have to break a bigger bill. Nope. Of course not. She looked at me like a deer in headlights, patted her apron and said "uhh no". Never going there again. Having worked in retail before I know that simple things like that are called customer service. Never going there again and it's a shame they're losing out on a person who was once such a loyal customer. read more
