Ordered a DoorDash dinner as I was staying overnight in Johnson City on business and hadn't had Applebee's in quite some time. The menu has really changed and expanded, but I wanted something light and I ordered the chicken wonton tacos off the appetizer menu. It comes with four tacos. I also ordered a cup of the chicken tortilla soup and I was wanting a dessert but nothing big and I was pleasantly surprised to see they offer a perfect bite-size brownie with ice cream for less than three dollars. You just don't see that in most restaurants these days and that was all I needed. The food was fresh delicious the tacos were full of ingredients and they are coleslaw. Topping is wonderful with a little drizzle of the fresh squeeze lime. The chicken tortilla soup was hot and flavorful with just enough spice to it that it wasn't overpowering, but enhance the flavor. Applebee's has a Two for $25 special on their Sizzlin' Skillets. You can either order two side or Caesar salads or a shareable appetizer and then two Sizzlin' Skillets. One is a 6 oz garlic sirloin with mashed potatoes and broccoli and the other is a white cheddar and bacon chicken skillet. My wife and I both have the garlic sirloin skillet with the Caesar side salads. My wife ordered her sirloin medium and I ordered mine rare. Both were cooked as ordered which is rare (pardon the pun). Food was very good. Service was good and our waitress was very pleasant and efficient. The Two for $25 is a great value and is a lot of food for the price. Firstly, we were placed in the back of the upper level due to being a larger group. We were seated and not told that the heating was not working on an eve when the temperature outside was 28 degrees, with a feel of 25 degrees. Since this is along the windows, you could actually feel the cold coming in from the window. We asked our waitress if she could turn up the heat and she advised that their heating was broken. We sat through a cold and extremely uncomfortable dinner and walked through the restaurant to exit. When walking through other sections were open and heated. Why would you seat customers near cold windows? Complete incompetence would be my reasoning. When leaving we discussed those at the front door that section had no heat and a very arrogant woman (I wished I had her name) responded with the General Manager knows about it. No remorse, no empathy, just a hallow response. Unbelievable. After this dinner, Applebee's has lost 7 loyal customers for life. It could have been avoided. So sorry to share this, but don't want anyone else to fall victim to commercial greed. read more

My waitress was wonderful, my sister and brother in law arrived a bit early then our friend arrived late. My sister and I had 3 draft beers during 2 hours so when our friend who had arrived late accidentally spilled a water on me because the table was full of dishes the manager Tiffany came out and said we were all cut off from drinking. My brother in law hadn't drank anything and our friend had only a few sips and she made us all feel bad and we were so embarrassed and we will never go back. Applebee's.... oh my goodness, it's been a while since I've set foot into one of these. But last night, didn't get out of work til late, and it was close by where I live... oh and I wanted a beer with my food. So Applebee's it was. When we came in, we waited at the front counter for a bit before we were seated. Young man who attended to us was nice.. though he moved like everything was in slow motion. I contributed to him just being tired. After all, it WAS pretty late. He probably had a long day so no biggie. Besides the beer and mixed drink, we order the dinner for 2 for $25 which included an appetizer and 2 entrees. It's a freakin deal! Just wasn't in the mood to go thoroughly through the menu and it worked out perfectly. The classic artichoke dip, steak dish and a shrimp pasta dish (can't remember the name, I was tired myself). Surprisingly, the food was awesome!!! I mean... it's Applebee's, so of course they know what they're doing... but man, food really hit the spot! The only thing is there were spider webs everywhere. Like huge clusters of them. And I'm not sure if it was from my beer, but I could have sworn that I've seen bats in there. And skeletons?? And skulls and scary looking masks!!! Yeah... that can't be right in a restaurant. Must have been my beer making me see things. So scratch that. Anyway.... not gonna say why these places normally would yield a lower rating from me... all I will say is that my visit was pleasant. Server was nice, prompt, and food was yummy. ...called my workplace. After an aknowledge of bad food tried to get me in trouble..didn't happen. Bad just bad all around bad. Don't go. The aus ju Which is old French onion w/ no cheese is terrible. I could go on about my experience, how bad the admission of guilt yet calling my workplace. BTW I tipped my waiter over 25% and the manager was so incompetent (I've closed out and kindly brought up some issues after) the incompetent manager said she would and agreed that I should not have to pay for my sandwich erased everything including the bartenders tip. We did the unlimited boneless wings and it was really good... until we received the Sweet Asian Chili flavored wings. Oh my God. These were horrific. Imagine drinking spicy dumpster juice... Would give 0 stars if I could since we never actually got to dine here. We were told they were short staffed so it would be 5-10 minutes before we could get a table. That's pretty much the way everywhere is so not really a big deal. We decided to go to the bar to get a drink while we waited. Probably the rudest bartender I've ever encountered. She took the time to tell us 3 times it would be a while for her to get to us if she ever would be able too. In the 3 times she walked away from the other guests she could have twisted the top off a bottle of beer! We quickly realized they did not want us or anyone else there so we left and went to smokey bones. We had excellent service and food there, bartender at smoky bones made a $40 tip! I recommend you keep on driving past Applebee's and go to smoky bones. I'll add a few more things. While this interaction happened I observed a server sitting down and playing on her phone. Another server eating and drinking in a corner. Noone was moving with any sort of urgency. So that's not a staffing issue that's a leadership issue. This place is unbelievable, went in tonight to sit at a table for at least 20 minutes before even being asked about a drink order, the bartender had to tell our server that we were in her area and that we had not been taken care of as she was just standing around looking like she was on a different planet and then proceeded to address us not as customers or guests of the establishment, but to use terms such as "Bro" , then when we get our drink there is hair in our drinks!! The manager at this place doesn't seem to know what he is doing or what his staff is doing!! We got our food and again the quality of the food is not GREAT, the silverware they gave my daughter was dirty and looked like it had not been cleaned! Our server was basically nowhere to be found she Never once came back and "checked on us" very unprofessional. When we did talk to the manager all he could do was take our kids' meals off the bill? I have been to this location on several occasions. My best experiences have been for lunch with business associates. There are several great options for lunch with soup and sandwich. Service has been good and food was tasty and never empty soup was very good. Nighttime is a different story. Service has been very spotty. I don't think they don't have enough staff to provide good service, especially in the bar area as the bartender takes to go orders as well as bar orders. This place also is pretty run down and does not smell that good. Menu is standard casual dining and not that special really .. seems they don't keep up with the standards for this category of restaurant. Overall the food is okay, service is spotty and price is average. Nothing really pulls be to come back. There are many other better choices in the area in my opinion. read more

Passing through Johnson City recently, on my way home to Southeastern Arizona, I got into conversation with a gentleman named Mitch, according to his Applebee's name tag. Before I saw the "Applebee's" label, I asked him to recommend a place for me to have supper. His eyes lit up and he bragged, and I mean bragged, about how good Applebee's was. So I gave it a try. That someone working there, and not out front with the potentially tipping customers, but in the kitchen, would brag about his place made me try it without asking anybody else for other recommendations. Well, I'll tell you: I almost wish I could go back to East Tennessee. The food and service really were great. I was sorry not to see Mitch again to thank him for the tip. Mitch does indeed have right and reason to be proud of his Applebee's. I see the chain is closing some of its restaurants and, after so thoroughly enjoying this one, I'm sorry to see that happen. If it does close, I want to suggest that any business that hires Mitch will be getting a real asset. read more

First off Id like to say that the employees here are mostly great. I had a waitress that just stood in a corner with a blank expression and hardly came to check on us. One time when I got up to go to the bathroom I think I heard her speaking in tongues. The other problems I have with this place are the establishment itself. The only item on the menu was apples. Given, they were different kinds, but like come on? Fried apples, baked apples, red apples, yellow apples, green apples, caramel apples, candied apples, and the only thing to drink was apple cider or apple juice. Anyways after I ordered our blooming apple "appletizer" as they called it, I went to the bathroom like I said. I began to understand the second part of the name. Bees everywhere. I really like the flavor of the food at applebee's. The service was perfect tonight. I was seated right away and the waitress was very friendly. I ordered the bourbon street chicken and a lemon ade since I wasn't drinking tonight. It did not come with the seasoned potatoes that i am used to getting. Just a medium scoop of mashed potatoes. The food was hot but the serving was very small. Even just a few mushroom slices. So I left hungry for 22 bucks with 15% tip. This is not acceptable. She took our IDs to her manager and came back and told us she couldn't serve one of our friends because her ID was bent. It wasn't even close to unlegible. Sat at the bar, got an awful margarita (it was the special) got my food to go because who honestly wants to sit in a Applebee's in serious fashion for more than 5 minutes. I went with a burger (who can mess up a burger??) Well Applebee's did. I've made better burgers after drinking all day at the lake. It looked like they just shoved it in a microwave. The menu is standard Applebees but the food is always well prepared. We love the "light" options with the calories listed. The shrimp salad and shrimp and rice are always delicious. The shrimp is perfectly prepared, not over cooked. read more
