This is a true story. While we were sitting at our table, I said to my cohort: "Let's play a game. You win if you can find a single employee here who is smiling." Nobody won. I think that says all I need to say about this place, but in the interest of a complete and fair review, I'll continue. We were sat right away on a Friday night. The place was busy, though, so it wasn't like there were a ton of tables. Well, I say that, but the entire far section (right side when you walk in) was completely empty. The rest of the joint, though... hoppin'! That was probably the main problem... how busy the place was. We were sat immediately, true, but we waited over 10 minutes for someone to greet us at the table. And no one did. I finally asked the manager who our server was, because we hadn't seen anyone yet. Within 30 seconds, our guy came over and took our order. After that, he checked in on us fairly regularly, including bringing me a refill of my beverage without my asking (very nice!). Our food came out rather quickly too. The bar drinks took a little longer, but that stands to reason, especially on a Friday night. And not even that much longer, to be fair. If I'm being honest, the main reason I went there was to try a unique Mountain Dew that is exclusive to Applebee's (Dark Berry Bash). My first cup had almost no syrup, but enough to shade it blue and give off a little flavor. I informed the manager and server, and it was fixed within minutes. So, again, hard to complain about the service once we were seated. The food was okay, nothing too special. We split the pretzel sticks and you don't get a whole lot for the price. But, lot of that going around these days, thank you inflation. Strangely enough, the sauces were fantastic, though! So, we'll call that one a push. Once we got the server's attention, the service was fine. But, as I said, literally no one working there was smiling. Like, I get it was a busy Friday night, I'm not oblivious to how taxing that can be. But, NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON? That's not a Friday night. That's called a red flag. There's always one... ALWAYS ONE person who keeps a positive attitude, even during the busiest shifts. But, not here. The food was mediocre, the drinks were good, the service was spotty, and the décor left a lot to be desired. The table and chairs were clean, but the rest of the joint could have very much used some TLC. Overall, if you're a Dew hunter like me (well, only amateur level really), any Applebee's is worth it for the exclusive flavor. But, for dining out in Waugh Chapel, this is probably the lowest tier there is. read more

Just visited Applebee's for the unlimited riblet special. The first plate came out as expected--with a regular portion of riblets, slaw, and fries. But when I asked for a refill, I was given one single riblet on a full-sized plate. When I asked the waitress if this was really the refill, she confirmed: "Yes, one riblet is the refill amount." This feels incredibly misleading. If Applebee's advertises unlimited riblets, customers shouldn't be given a single riblet and expected to take that seriously. I won't be returning, and I hope this kind of practice ends soon--for the sake of other customers. read more

We used to go all the time but they changed the menu and the dishes we liked the most disappeared and the new dishes didn't entice us. Greeted upon entering and immediately seated. It was COLD in there. I am normally hot natured and cold doesn't bother me much but I was shivering when we left. Ladies, bring your light sweater. Order the Bourbon Street Chicken & Shrimp. I thought this would be like a BBQ bourbon or something similar. Don't know what the seasoning was but it had no flavor and the chicken breast was a tad dry. Well, what can I say ...this spot is average at best but it's Applebees so I truly don't have high expectations. The overall atmosphere is the same as any other location, chill vibe with what feels to be neighborhood people stopping by for food and drinks. I seated myself at the bar, no hostess was at the door to greet me but again, I truly don't have high expectations. The young lady at the bar was kind, nothing exceptional about the service. I ordered the spinach and artichoke dip...it was meh, so much so I didn't even take a picture. The layer of cheese on top was inedible and the actual dip itself lacked seasoning/flavor. My margarita with patron was just okay ...could have been stronger. My second drink, the blue aloha mana margarita was stronger, however the taste was just average .. Will I come back, possibly if I'm in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way to to stop by. My experience here is 7/10 read more

Went here happy hour, the place wasn't busy at all. Let's start with service, slow and unattentive. Once order was taken the next time we saw server was a check time. Now for the food. I got the fish and chips. The fish was good the were luke warm and stuck together(stiiing around under a lamp) you would think they would be hot since you had to wait for the fish to be cooked. We also got the French dip sandwich , the meat was flavorful and tender, same issue quality with the French . The best part on $40 plus bill was the $3 cold (the one true happy hour deal). Applebee's seems to be very passionate about the new Jungle Cruise movie with the Rock. They have ads on every table and for each 25$ you spend you can get a free ticket. Which isn't bad, i'm actually redeeming my tickets for the movie. Applebee's also is now using QR code menus. If you have a phone you use the QR code and if you don't they'll give you the old school (paper and laminated) menu. Today I went to Applebee's my family. Our server was nice. We ordered onion rings, and for my entree I decided to eat an appetizer (buffalo boneless wings). The wings we good and the onion rings were quite soggy. I get it, this place isn't the place to go if you're expecting exceptional customer service...but I have my go-to meal here and they never disappoint. I remember back in the day when people used to say things like " Lets go to Applebees", and Applebees used to be the @#$%, but those days are gone, and nobody seems to have told this location. From the outside it looks the part of what I remember from the glory days, but once you enter, you remember why you haven't been here since 2005. With so many options in Waugh Chapel it really says something about the type of night your having if you are at Applebees. I've been in this scenario, and this s how its been both times. Either you really love all you can eat chicken strips and rib tips (I've been there), or you just walked out the house with no ambition and said @#$% it! The inside is super dated, and the bar area looks like the type of bar you go to relapse at after an AA meeting. That way you know you won't see anyone that might care about you, because their probably all at any other restaurant in Waugh Chapel. The service matches the decor. The food is IHOP with a bar, and the swagger of a divorce 40 year old with 5 kids. Overall: It's doable, but it's not reccomended. read more

My sweetie got the clubhouse grill sandwich and it had a good amount of fillings. My fiancé gotten the $12.99 for two plate of wings and fries, and i didn't get anything because i wasn't that hungry and was planning to snack off his plate. i ate less than five wings and pretty much three fries and the server charged us $27 for TWO plates. the deal is $12.99 for the TWO plates and after that it's all you can eat. I was not paying that much when i had less than a plate. We called the manager over, which was an asain guy and he kept raising his voice at us telling us a fake deal that was on the menu. regardless, it said ONE deal for TWO plates. not ONE deal ONE plate. we were there the night before and paid $13 for the same thing we got this day. My son picks this location for our talks and we'll go during happy hour to mix and match our options as we share plates. They have HH from 3-6p and again at 9p. Make sure you tell the wait staff that you'd like to be seated in the HH area for the appropriate pricing (half off apps and they have drink specials). There seems to be a rotation of wait staff and the managers on duty are very effective from my past experiences. On my last visit, I was informed that they are experiencing a Hennessy shortage. I'm like you're kidding right? She was not, there's actually a news story corroborating her statement. Who knew? If you're hungry and you need to eat something that takes less than an hour and a half. Do yourself a favor and go to the Chick-fila next door. The restaurant seemed to be well staffed, but the service was really slow. This was on a random Wednesday before the dinner rush so who knows why it took so long to have our orders taken. Our drinks (Pepsis) took well over 10 minutes. There just seemed to be no urgency regarding service. We finally received our appetizer which did not look appetizing at all. Our waitress was nice enough to use her fingers and then a napkin to move the crumbs of our app plates. We were starving so we decided to dive in, without using the app plates and start our meal. End of story? No, of course not. After few bites we found a hair, and with that we decided to cancel the rest of our order. I can over look a lot of things in a restaurant, just not so many all at once. I come here all the time for the after hours HH! The one in laurel closed down and I was upset but I understood. I was glad to see this one in Gambrills. I went on a Friday night for happy hour and they have different food/drink specials along with a dj that comes on at 9pm spinning hip hop and r and b both old and new school. By the time it was cool enough to eat the meat was well done, the potatoes and onions were stuck to the platter.
