We went out to eat tonight and were told there would be about a 15-minute wait, even though there were several open tables. It seemed like they might have been short-staffed, which is completely understandable. However, after we were seated, multiple groups who arrived after us were sat right away, and it looked like there was only one waitress handling a large number of tables. It took about 15 minutes for our drink order to be taken, and then nearly 40 minutes before we received our drinks and food. After we placed our order, our waitress was gone for around 30 minutes. One of our drinks didn't arrive until after our food came out, and when we asked about it, we were told the bartender was busy. Meanwhile, we noticed other tables receiving drinks and food even though they had been seated after us. The appetizers were great and some of the food was good. Unfortunately, my chicken tenders were extremely dry and not edible. At that point we were tired of waiting, so I just asked for my meal to be taken off the bill. The manager appeared to be helping take orders, but never acknowledged our table or apologized for the long delays. We tried to get her attention a few times without success. I completely understand that restaurants can get busy and short-staffed--I've worked in similar situations myself. However, a quick apology, checking on tables, or offering a small discount would have gone a long way. I do want to give a shout-out to the food runner, Diamond. She was very kind, checked on us, and had a great attitude despite how busy things were. She handled the pressure really well and was the highlight of our experience. So the first time we came here it was a nightmare. It's lunchtime, no one is hostessing and there is a dirty rag laying there . People sitting in booths on their phones, not sure who are employees and who are customers. We stand there for 10 minutes and everyone is oblivious to our presence so we leave wondering if this is an operational establishment. So today we saw multiple cars in the parking lot, so we decided to try our luck again. This time we were greeted immediately and had a server. Service was great and so was the food. Came here once before with my sister and the vibe was nice. Tonight it's another great experience. The food is great. I had the blackened salmon with loaded mashes potatoes and broccoli. It was delicious and flavorful. Our waitress Kiara was awesome. She was one of two servers tonight. She was very pleasant and professional. It wasn't too loud and the music selection was well rounded for young and old. I will be coming back again when I visit the Columbia area again. This Applebees sure has its challenges. First off, it's not a typical Applebees as far as decor and service. If you want any service at all, you should get there before 5pm. Hostess is always in the back so you're stuck there waiting to be seated for awhile. They go through a lot of help because it's always new people. We live close so it's convenient for us. Drinks are always good and consistent. Food is usually consistent also. It's the serve that needs ALOT of work. And when they restaurant is empty, you shouldn't have to wait to be seated or greeted for that matter. Getting greeted by a host is probably the worst part of this place. One host was sitting in the bar chillin on his cell phone before even recognizing us. If you want service right away, go sit directly at the bar where the bartender is there non stop and will greet you and take your order right away. It was dark outside and NONE of the outside lights were on, we had planned on meeting another couple for dinner and thought the Applebees was closed, until we looked harder and saw the cars in the parking lot. Just little thing about being in the industry you have to remember you the thing you forget makes or breaks the customers experience. Example... the onions took a little longer than expected, but the customer was waiting on them to begin eating her salad... which delayed her eating her salad, but the meal came later but not long enough to finish before the salad before she got her hamburger and fries. They were out of pretzels which is ok, stuff happens; however there was absolutely nothing about this location that would make you ever want to come to another Applebees again. We frequent this applebees often, since the one in the sandhills on two notch is a dumpster dive. We have never had a bad experience here. Quick service, good food and drink, and the staff is actually nice, again, unlike the rude and useless staff on two notch. Wow First and last visit. Might even be our last to any Applebees after that $hit show. Went in with wife & 4 children, youngest being 10. Was told it would be a 20-30 minute wait. So many tables available, yet none for us. Finally 20 minute later we were asked if we would take a high table on the bar side( which was always available, 2 actually) Sat down and waited 30 min to get service. We stopped here on our way through town to Charleston. It was lunch time on a Sunday and the restaurant was steady but not crowded and social distancing was being practiced. The restrooms and restaurant appeared to be very clean. My wife had the Fiesta lime chicken, very good and I had a cheese burger also very good. We had 3 kids meals all served as ordered and in a timely manner. Most importantly, the staff was so amazing, friendly and helpful to the customers and to each other.
