So my first Mac product EVER crashed on me yesterday and wouldn't restart. I was in a PaNiC because I had my son 10 days ago and all of his newborn pictures were on the laptop that just crashed and of course we hadn't backed them up yet! So we immediately tried troubleshooting based on the online forums - no luck. MORE PANIC!!! Went online and booked an appointment for 45 minutes later at the Genius Bar at the Apple Store in West Ed. Packed up the whole family - 10 day old baby in tote - and went down to West Ed - Good grief! Met with our assigned Genius Bar employee at Apple who determined that our hard drive was starting to fail on us - he said if we replaced it right away the pictures should be recoverable. He was so honest that he told us if we went to West World Computers down the road that we would be able to get a harddrive double the size for the same price because it didn't really need to be an "apple" brand harddrive. KUDOS to him for his honestly. Besides, we have 4, that's right 4 FREAKING apple computers and laptops in our house and 2 iPhones and 4 iPods... So Apple has easily squeezed 10K out of us in the past decade or so... They won't be hurting if we don't drop another $200 there on a harddrive. An Apple A Day...

I was never a fan of Mac computers. I have always been a PC user and still am today. That being said, I got a Macbook last year for Christmas, and as much as I tried to hate it, I just could not help but like it. Now, I have been to the Apple store in WEM and I found it very convenient how they had a lot of demo units of iPods, Macbooks, and iMacs (the desktop computers) along their tables, as well as iPod speakers and accessories. I found it incredibly useful how they had a lot of headphones to try out on iPod units, as there is a severe lack of this at any Best Buy or Future Shop. It is very convenient how a lot of the products found on the Apple online store can be found in store, where you are allowed to take products out of the box and try it on your iPod or Macbook computer. The technical support is also very good. I had an iPhone and a button fell off, but it was still under warranty. I made an appointment online, which was a simple process, and came in during my designated time slot. The 'Genius' (code name for the tech support staff) had a visual inspection of my phone, plugged it into his computer, perhaps to verify that I was still covered under the manufacturer's warranty, and ordered in a replacement phone. There was no cost to this, and the new phone arrived within 2 days. When I came in to pick up my replacement phone, they helped me move all my information, contacts, and messages over to the new phone, so nothing was lost at all. Something that bugs me though: everytime you walk in, there is usually a greeter present who is suppose to say hello to you, yet their service is very inconsistent. Every time I'm walking in to the store, I don't know whether I will be greeted by someone, or if I should just continue walking in. The service is really not necessary in my opinion. I just like to walk straight into a store and feel that person could better be utilized as a sales associate. Also keep in mind that the prices offered for their products are usually not the cheapest around, and I would advise you to carefully look at other electronic retailers first. When you're willing to pay for your product as well, it can be difficult to find someone to help you out. Who would have ever thought it would be difficult to get service when you're willing to pay for something??

The Apple Store in West Edmonton Mall was one happenin' place! People were everywhere playing with all sorts of colourful gadgets. Every colour of every ipod and every version of every laptop were set up on very large Ikea-looking tables. These tables were very spread out and so were the products set on them, so there was lots of room to move around and explore. The store had a very welcoming and friendly feel to it. I was greeted at the door, and I think they have a "please DO touch everything" policy. I couldn't help but play with the new ipods, making me wish I could afford one in every colour. Little stools and low tables were even set up, so little kids could play Star Wars Lego on the imacs; it was the cutest. You could find almost every Apple product in this store, including many accessories that are made by other companies. I saw an entire wall full of extras for the iphone and tons of stuff for ipods and computers too. I also found some really funky designed laptop cases and some awesome computer games. This store isn't cheap, and I think the prices are the same as ordering them online. The advantage is you don't just get to look at the products, you get to touch and play with everything. And if you're serious about buying, it's nice to try something out before making a decision. Also, there's an abundant amount of staff on hand to help you out!

When I first saw this store in West Edmonton Mall, I wanted to run up to it lick the windows. If it would have been considered socially acceptable, I would have. I love Mac. I'm a big Mac advocate and I'm proud of it! Walking into this store, I don't know where to go - everything calls to me! My only issue with this store is that it can be hard to get attention from one of the staff because they are always busy. I love that they have an educational discount because, let's face it, Mac is expensive and any break you can get - take it! I love Mac. I love this store.

They created the company based on surveys by Canadians that told them what Canadians hated about their cell phone companies. WIND has NO CONTRACTS! If you like them, stay on, if not, go elsewhere. No strings attached. How beautiful is that?! They also have cheap plans! You can call all other WIND phones, and anywhere in Canada with unlimited texting - day and night - all for $45! There's unlimited minutes and long distance! My favourite thing about WIND is that they are not owned by Rogers, Telus, or Bell. All of the other small cell phones (like Koodo) are owned by one of these companies. But not WIND! They use their own towers so the reception isn't the best yet, but it's getting better every day. The staff are very knowledgeable about their stuff. They are so helpful. AND, you can get a 3G touch screen phone for $130. I love WIND!

They have very few phones to choose from, about 5 but they aren't bad choices at all. The phones are sold with no contract and for a cheaper price than you would find at Bell or Telus or Rogers. I am looking into switching over but the only reason I won't just yet it is because they are a brand new company so the reception isn't the best. They also offer some great plans that aren't very complicating and they allow you to add-on around those. If this company plays its cards right it will get tons of business. Most people hate the concept of contracts and the BS all the major companies make you deal with.

Sales reps who only sort of know what they're talking about (though even that is a stretch), trying to sell expensive warranties and other accessories that are marked up by 1000% and no, that is not a typo. One thousand percent. Ever since the Canadian government limited cell phone contracts to 2 years, the big 3 (Rogers, Telus and Bell) have been running tight ships with little in negotiations even for a loyal 10+ year customer like myself. My wife was on an existing 3 year contract when the 2 year max was regulated. As a result, she was able to get an upgrade earlier than the end date so that was welcome news. We were at West Ed and happened to walk by the Best Buy Mobile kiosk near the main food court. She was interested in the Samsung Galaxy S4 and what do you know, it says $0 when the provider had it for $99. Of course when we inquired we were notified that it was only $0 for new activations. Surprise, surprise. A classic case of bait and switch. Well, we were there anyway so let's find out what it will cost to upgrade. Basically... they quoted the phone price. I asked if there was a hardware upgrade fee of $25 like the provider. They said no. I was pleasantly surprised but still wary that it would come up. I was thinking, wow, great to go through these guys as we don't have to pay this scam! Later on the fee did come up and they had no idea why. Seriously? It's only a bogus fee that all the providers charge their customers (again, of course new activations wouldn't be paying for it). Thinking that the provider can't do much for us, we proceed with the sale. We sat through the sales rep's warranty presentation, which was $12.99 a month for the duration of the 2 year contract totaling $311.76. OMG what a rip!! I don't like to be rude and cut them off, plus it gives the sales person a chance to practice their pitch so we continue to pretend to listen, but of course we say no. The rep said OK and proceeded with the sale. Then another employee, maybe her boss, came and gave another spiel. *ROLL EYES* By this time I've lost interest in what he's saying and I don't even pretend to listen anymore. I guess my wife is nicer than me as I can see she's still nodding. I'm looking off in the distance. He continues to talk blah blah blah blah blah. Our answer is remains the same. At the end of the day this maybe wasn't the best idea to go through a middle man for cell phones. I have always gone through my provider but at the same time I feel like this is a way to stick it to them. If they're not going to throw me any bones then I'll go through the middle man which they likely have to pay out a commission to them. The middle man will pretend to be your friend and make you feel like it's beneficial to go through them. At the end of the day you're damned if you do and damned if you don't in this lose-lose situation.

I had my iPhone screen replaced at mobilFIX and within 12 hours, the new screen literally cracked in my hand as I was texting...I did NOT drop the phone. I returned to the store the next day and the gentleman refused to replace the defective screen, unless I paid another $130 (the cost I had already paid to replace it). He hid behind the company policy that the store was not responsible for the damaged screen. Over and over he stated the store's policy. I replied that I understood it was the policy, but the policy will always go against the consumer (because mobilFIX can always say, "Well, you must have dropped it. It wasn't defective...and even if it was a defective screen, that's not our fault.") I said, "Let me get this straight. If I pay another $130 to have this defective screen replaced, then I walk fifteen feet out of the store and screen cracks in my hand while I am out of your line-of-sight, you will tell me I probably dropped the phone and it's not your responsibility?" His reply: "Yes." It's a real shame when stores lack the courage to take responsibility and stand behind what they sell. It's even a bigger shame when it's a local, 3-store mom 'n pop operation. Btw, he offered a discount to replace the defective screen: $115 instead of $130. Beyond insulting.

This significantly reduced the lifespan of software support and performance, something I believe should've been clearly disclosed at the time of sale. When I brought this up, the store claimed they didn't know the model year, but as a certified Apple retailer, I find that extremely hard to believe. Most recently, I returned to the store on April 7, 2025, to have the iMac checked, already knowing (based on Apple's own diagnostic support) that the issues were related to its age. I explained this to both the service desk and to Jessica, who helped me when I picked it up. Her customer service was not professional -- she appeared frustrated with the number of customers waiting and did not speak kindly or respectfully to anyone at the desk. Jessica brought my computer out from the back carrying it in her hands, not in the box I had originally provided for protection. I immediately noticed a substance smeared on the screen. When I asked about it, she responded dismissively, saying it was from her hands, then casually sprayed Windex on a cloth and wiped the screen -- a method that is not recommended for Apple displays. I was shocked by the lack of care and attention shown to such an expensive piece of equipment. For a premium product and premium price, this experience has left me feeling completely misled and disappointed -- both with the product I received and the treatment I received from staff. Not what I'd expect from an Apple-certified store. Now, just five years later, I'm left needing to purchase a new computer -- something I wouldn't expect after investing in what I believed was a brand-new iMac. I highly recommend that anyone considering a purchase from this store ask for -- and receive written proof of -- the computer's manufacturing date before completing a sale. Don't assume what you're buying is current just because it's being sold as new
