So my first Mac product EVER crashed on me yesterday and wouldn't restart. I was in a PaNiC because I had my son 10 days ago and all of his newborn pictures were on the laptop that just crashed and of course we hadn't backed them up yet! So we immediately tried troubleshooting based on the online forums - no luck. MORE PANIC!!! Went online and booked an appointment for 45 minutes later at the Genius Bar at the Apple Store in West Ed. Packed up the whole family - 10 day old baby in tote - and went down to West Ed - Good grief! Met with our assigned Genius Bar employee at Apple who determined that our hard drive was starting to fail on us - he said if we replaced it right away the pictures should be recoverable. He was so honest that he told us if we went to West World Computers down the road that we would be able to get a harddrive double the size for the same price because it didn't really need to be an "apple" brand harddrive. KUDOS to him for his honestly. Besides, we have 4, that's right 4 FREAKING apple computers and laptops in our house and 2 iPhones and 4 iPods... So Apple has easily squeezed 10K out of us in the past decade or so... They won't be hurting if we don't drop another $200 there on a harddrive. An Apple A Day...

I was never a fan of Mac computers. I have always been a PC user and still am today. That being said, I got a Macbook last year for Christmas, and as much as I tried to hate it, I just could not help but like it. Now, I have been to the Apple store in WEM and I found it very convenient how they had a lot of demo units of iPods, Macbooks, and iMacs (the desktop computers) along their tables, as well as iPod speakers and accessories. I found it incredibly useful how they had a lot of headphones to try out on iPod units, as there is a severe lack of this at any Best Buy or Future Shop. It is very convenient how a lot of the products found on the Apple online store can be found in store, where you are allowed to take products out of the box and try it on your iPod or Macbook computer. The technical support is also very good. I had an iPhone and a button fell off, but it was still under warranty. I made an appointment online, which was a simple process, and came in during my designated time slot. The 'Genius' (code name for the tech support staff) had a visual inspection of my phone, plugged it into his computer, perhaps to verify that I was still covered under the manufacturer's warranty, and ordered in a replacement phone. There was no cost to this, and the new phone arrived within 2 days. When I came in to pick up my replacement phone, they helped me move all my information, contacts, and messages over to the new phone, so nothing was lost at all. Something that bugs me though: everytime you walk in, there is usually a greeter present who is suppose to say hello to you, yet their service is very inconsistent. Every time I'm walking in to the store, I don't know whether I will be greeted by someone, or if I should just continue walking in. The service is really not necessary in my opinion. I just like to walk straight into a store and feel that person could better be utilized as a sales associate. Also keep in mind that the prices offered for their products are usually not the cheapest around, and I would advise you to carefully look at other electronic retailers first. When you're willing to pay for your product as well, it can be difficult to find someone to help you out. Who would have ever thought it would be difficult to get service when you're willing to pay for something??

The Apple Store in West Edmonton Mall was one happenin' place! People were everywhere playing with all sorts of colourful gadgets. Every colour of every ipod and every version of every laptop were set up on very large Ikea-looking tables. These tables were very spread out and so were the products set on them, so there was lots of room to move around and explore. The store had a very welcoming and friendly feel to it. I was greeted at the door, and I think they have a "please DO touch everything" policy. I couldn't help but play with the new ipods, making me wish I could afford one in every colour. Little stools and low tables were even set up, so little kids could play Star Wars Lego on the imacs; it was the cutest. You could find almost every Apple product in this store, including many accessories that are made by other companies. I saw an entire wall full of extras for the iphone and tons of stuff for ipods and computers too. I also found some really funky designed laptop cases and some awesome computer games. This store isn't cheap, and I think the prices are the same as ordering them online. The advantage is you don't just get to look at the products, you get to touch and play with everything. And if you're serious about buying, it's nice to try something out before making a decision. Also, there's an abundant amount of staff on hand to help you out!

When I first saw this store in West Edmonton Mall, I wanted to run up to it lick the windows. If it would have been considered socially acceptable, I would have. I love Mac. I'm a big Mac advocate and I'm proud of it! Walking into this store, I don't know where to go - everything calls to me! My only issue with this store is that it can be hard to get attention from one of the staff because they are always busy. I love that they have an educational discount because, let's face it, Mac is expensive and any break you can get - take it! I love Mac. I love this store.

The west edmonton mall Apple Store is not great. Long waits and confused customer service with inconsistent service.

And the bags the stores uses are so cute - white with the Apple logo on it, and a thick drawstring handle.

I spoke with the receptionist, who said she would contact upper management and get back to me, but I never received a call. A couple of days later, I stopped by again, this time asking to speak with a salesperson, as an Apple service technician had recommended it. As soon as I started to explain my issue, the salesperson immediately refused to send my case to Apple, claiming it would cost too much. He then began yelling at me very loudly, telling me to leave because it was "private property," and verbally abused me, calling me names. I was in shock and couldn't believe how aggressively he was acting. I honestly felt scared, as if he might even become physically abusive. His name is Mark Nelson, and his behavior was completely unprofessional, frightening, and unacceptable. I will never return to this store, and I cannot recommend it to anyone. It was rude and disturbing, and I feel it's important to report this so that it doesn't happen to anyone else. Please avoid this store.

This significantly reduced the lifespan of software support and performance, something I believe should've been clearly disclosed at the time of sale. When I brought this up, the store claimed they didn't know the model year, but as a certified Apple retailer, I find that extremely hard to believe. Most recently, I returned to the store on April 7, 2025, to have the iMac checked, already knowing (based on Apple's own diagnostic support) that the issues were related to its age. I explained this to both the service desk and to Jessica, who helped me when I picked it up. Her customer service was not professional -- she appeared frustrated with the number of customers waiting and did not speak kindly or respectfully to anyone at the desk. Jessica brought my computer out from the back carrying it in her hands, not in the box I had originally provided for protection. I immediately noticed a substance smeared on the screen. When I asked about it, she responded dismissively, saying it was from her hands, then casually sprayed Windex on a cloth and wiped the screen -- a method that is not recommended for Apple displays. I was shocked by the lack of care and attention shown to such an expensive piece of equipment. For a premium product and premium price, this experience has left me feeling completely misled and disappointed -- both with the product I received and the treatment I received from staff. Not what I'd expect from an Apple-certified store. Now, just five years later, I'm left needing to purchase a new computer -- something I wouldn't expect after investing in what I believed was a brand-new iMac. I highly recommend that anyone considering a purchase from this store ask for -- and receive written proof of -- the computer's manufacturing date before completing a sale. Don't assume what you're buying is current just because it's being sold as new

Automated phone lines with A.I. generated responses that could not understand my situation. At the moment, they are just not able to answer the phones due to sheer volume and staffing, so calling for curbside or other information is not possible. It's a pandemic...everyone take a breath, they will still help you out - and with a smile! There is NO in-person shopping. I'd definitely recommend shopping online, getting all your screen shots or part numbers on a list before you arrive to not waste the staff's time as they are BUSY. I arrived and the parking lot wasn't very busy - good sign. There were only a couple of folks ahead of me, and the floor is clearly marked for physical distancing, and someone was at the door to direct guests. Staff were all super busy, and I went late at night to avoid people... the staff were cheerful, HELPFUL, and went to great lengths to find the borescope/endoscope camera I came for (the website said there were 8 in stock,) so it was just a matter of finding their hiding spot. It took two staff to locate it, and locate it they did. I felt safe, staff sanitized the PIN pad after every guest, and I witnessed frequent cleaning by all the staff at the registers. I like to shop local... a lot, and I want to keep my IT peeps fed and housed. I like having a local shop that I can return or exchange items if there's an issue, and Memory Express does that and more for my personal and work needs. Ordering online... you can do that too! They definitely ship, and I wouldn't hesitate except I needed it sooner than later to check my vent for birds/nests - yes it's November/December, but I don't want to block any feathered friends inside before putting on the screening! The only location offering Curbside right now is in Manitoba, however, with the upcoming new restrictions in Alberta, check with them on Monday...that may change!
