Difficult to give this a 5-star rating, but did because the last two experiences with an actual person who helped me were exceptional--friendly, kind, and eager to please. HOWEVER, sadly, the Apple Store staff generally have a disingenuous, condescending attitude. Although you are greeted with a smile, the greeter seems quick to make you feel stupid and say you need to make an appointment. I strongly think they should make every effort to accommodate your needs. Just harshly saying you need an appointment and pushing you out is stupid. Why not try saying, "Let me try and get you in, and while you wait, check out our other products you may not have considered"? Yes, the Apple product is superb and sells itself. Why not match this great product with equal service? Sadly, any consideration of visiting here is met with apprehension and anxiety. Do better. read more

Instead of being supported in this effort, store management flat-out refused to let me conduct even a brief demonstration -- without giving any reason whatsoever. No policy cited. No explanation. No professionalism. Just an abrupt, thoughtless "no." This is absolutely unacceptable from a company that claims to champion accessibility, inclusivity, and innovation. How can Apple say it supports equitable communication when its own management blocks clinicians from testing the very tools designed to make care more inclusive? That said, I want to give immense credit to the two employees who actually assisted me -- they were kind, courteous, and genuinely helpful. Their professionalism and empathy were the only redeeming part of my visit. Honestly, Apple would do well to replace the current management with employees like them -- at least they understand what human-centered technology really means. When I later returned to the store to return the headphones, I was told to wait at a desk with no clear direction. After waiting quite a while, I finally realized that an employee named Alejandro was there but had not introduced himself or offered assistance. When I asked for help, he seemed indifferent and had me do most of the return process myself on my own phone -- which was both aggravating and unprofessional. Ultimately, a supervisor had to complete the return for me, as Alejandro appeared completely incapable and unwilling to provide even basic customer service. I came in to wipe a broken phone and there were so many employees. The store was spotless and super clean. It took a little longer than I had anticipated but I was happy to get it done. The employee also shared that Apple recycles any old phones you have, you just bring them in and they take care of it. read more

It's so rare in these days of understaffed and overworked staff businesses to find such a high level of customer care and efficiency. I had an appointment with the Genius bar for my iMac. They checked me in within one minute at the door. I was directed to the Genius bar and sat down with my computer. Within 3 minutes I was being helped. The staffer handed me off to another (think it was a shift change) but it was seamless. Navid ran diagnostics, changed some settings, and went over the process clearly with me. He was patient, kind, knowledgeable, and efficient. The manager walked over as we finished and asked me if I was happy with the service and I said that Navid was a spectacular employee and made me feel very comfortable, quickly resolving my issue. I was so relieved that it wasn't a problem with my hard drive. A less honest company could have bamboozled me. Yay Apple! read more

Dont waste your time at the Genious Bar. Despite having an appointment i waited 15 minutes. Of three issues only one was solved. For the other two the employee blew me off. Apple employees at this Apple store are as awesome as those working at other Apple stores around the world, but it's a terrible experience to come to this Apple store. Let me explain why. I got there at 9:45 am and waited in line for the store to open at 10:00 am. All of us in line had to suffer from strong smell of pee in front of the entrance. There were 3 homeless guys sitting in front of this apple store and one of them was screaming & shouting at us. The floor was so dirty in front of its entrance. I was shocked Apple allowed such things happen at its store. Security did nothing about it. And we saw one of the homeless guys enter the store later to charge his whatever product. Security saw him and did nothing either. If this is a problem of downtown Santa Barbara. Apple should move its store to La Cumbre Plaza or Goleta to save its image. Apple shame on you! The tip of my iPhone charger came off inside the phone port. I took the phone to you who quoted me $269. And it would have to be shipped out. I decided against the repair. Today I took it to iGeeksiphone repair on 16 W Calle Laureles B, Santa Barbara, CA 93105 For $40 they fixed the problem and put on a new screen protector as mine was cracked. They serviced our iMac at the store but forgot to give us the power cord back. I called the number for the store, but only was able to speak to someone somewhere else, who told us we would have to go to the store to see if they had it. Even they had no way to contact the store, supposedly... We live an hour away, so 2 hours round trip. This is absolutely ridiculous! read more

Ace is exceptionally personable, knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. His skillset is through the roof. I am a nursing student and had many questions about upgrading my laptop. Ace helped me to better understand the latest techs and specs and, very painlessly, assisted me with upgrading my Dino-MacBook. I truly appreciated how he customized the shopping experience based on my needs and didn't try to "oversell" me. He was extremely present throughout the entire process and I can say that he earned my trust in a very short period of time. I've been an Apple customer since 2010. But today they completely mishandled their customer service and by the sounds of it, this is standard protocol. I waited for 20 minutes even though I had an appointment. They analyzed my iPhone 12 and confirmed the microphone needed to be replaced. But they said since there's a crack on the screen they won't cover the microphone failure under warranty, even though if there had been no screen crack they would have replaced it for free. So instead they try to charge me $270 for an in-house part swap that should have been under warranty. It's unbelievable. No "sorry about that", "I hope you can understand where are coming from", just a cold "That's the policy, we cannot fix it under warranty." I have to give some love to Apple because the reviews are so negative and I had a great experience two days ago. My phone is dead. SE 2 logic board problem, which means it won't stay charged for over 90 seconds. This is bad because I turn out not to have been backed up. The official line at Apple is that logic boards on the SE CANNOT be repaired. This is false. They can but you have to send to a guy in Vegas named Jesse Cruz, the Patron Saint of Logic Boards with Bootloop issues. I had no phone and went in to ask if maybe syncing my Macbook (re-syncing) to my phone would help. Sadly, while that is not as long a process as an iCloud backup, it's not instantaneous, nor is it retroactive (it will sync eventually but takes some time). I had no phone, just a MacBook so I used their WiFi to connect with Marketplace guy in Oxnard (turned out to be homeless, with a dog, and selling an SE first gen not the SE 3). Everyone was incredibly nice and patient. They had no problems with my using their WiFi to coordinate with the man in Ventura County. I now know more than I ever wanted to about logic boards and mic errors. This has nothing to do, by the way, with screen cracks. It is a rare but real issue with iPhones and if you go on YouTube and Google Jesse Cruz or VC Board Repair, you will find a lot of information. Apple uses a company called Drive Savers.I got a card in Santa Monica, but I didn't like the vibe and impersonality of this corporate subcontractor. Jesse won't charge unless he successfully retrieves your data so there's no risk. And he's prompt and polite in messages. Apple claims that logic boards can be repaired on newer models, but not SEs, at least not the SE 1 or 2. MORAL OF STORY: MAKE SURE YOU ARE BACKED UP. I love this store for many reasons - location, layout, great staff in back of the store, HOWEVER, there is a big young white guy that wears a Covid mask that works the front of the store - he is aggressive and non-friendly. He is the exact opposite of what you want as your "greeter" at the front door. He is so off-putting, he literally grabs my phone out of my hand and begins spouting off what he thinks I want to know, instead of talking to me like another human. MacBook Air w/ M1 chip is not compatible with Photoshop at this time. It just isn't. There is A LOT of misinformation about this. Be advised. Purchased online, picked up in store. Experienced a "kernel panic," made an appt w/ Genius Bar. They said exchange it. Exchanged it and had the same problem again. Experiencing program errors and it panicked again. Came back for another Genius Bar appt and associate in photo greeted me. I was early. Appt was at 12:40 and I got there at 12:30. I went to get a slice of pizza, came back right at 12:49 and she said appt was gone I'd have to reschedule. Associate was rude. I genuinely feel like she deleted the appt bc when I first came there ten minutes early she asked me what was going on and after starting to go into it, I frustratingly* said "actually I don't want to repeat this all over again I'll just wait for my appointment." I could tell she felt some type of way about that but that does not justify being rude and raising your voice. When I went up to someone else to ask them to help me she aggressively inserted herself like she is the gatekeeper of the Apple store and was going at me again. I can't. Had to return home to go get the charger and when I came back the same associate was like challenging me with her presence by standing right next to me at one point. Go away. Bc of the overall experience with Apple Support over this issue and my experience in the store, I returned it for my money back and I'm going to check out other options. I came here three times this week to get my phone fixed from things that had been going on for a very long tim! in fact, the spellcheck put in caps in the middle of the sentence has been happening for two years since I bought the phone! No I told him it wasn't that! Anyway, today it was because the zoom keeps popping up for no reason at all randomly and I have to shut the phone down! Just went to Apple to try and trade in my 2018 MacBook Pro ($2100 brand new) and iPad ($1200 new) in perfectly working order. Yet, because of two minor scratches at the bottom of my screen's bevel (not even on the actual screen), they offered me ZERO dollars in trade - in value. Are you F-ing kidding me?? The only reason I need a new computer is so I can actually edit photos and videos and complete professional jobs I have pending. I don't want you but your products seemingly only last 3-4 years before forcing us to upgrade. This Apple store has a 2.7 rating on Yelp - maybe a little less after this review. You'd think maybe someone at Apple would take notice - forget about management at the store doing anything - they are the problem! After getting a legit, but less than hoped for response, a manager said to me "Have a nice day, if you can". Those last 3 words say it all. This employee, Travis, said he had worked there for 12 years. He is mentioned in a number of negative reviews, but management isn't smart enough to tell him to move on or improve his attitude. Although his smart-ass finish to what could have been a friendly comment wasn't appreciated, I can sort of understand - 12 years in a low-level retail job must be depressing. Don't go here for a repair. These people have no idea what they're doing. I went in to get a replacement for my iPad sine the charger input wasn't working, and they claimed that the warranty I had didn't cover it since it didn't qualify as "accidental damage" and tried to sell me a new one for $600. Long story short, the Costa Mesa Apple store told me that it WAS covered under warranty and got me a new one for free which is nice. But this doesn't dispel the fact that the people at the Santa Barbara store don't know what they're talking about. Either employ people who know what they're doing, or don't be in business at all. read more
