This little place was built with very high standards and a lot of love. We have been going to the Cheese Shop since it was located further back on the property. The new building has indoor seating for the blustery days, and outdoor seating in the shade or in the sun with views of the large pond and friendly goats (and sometimes baby cows). There is also a drive through window... inside you will find amazing cheeses many of which are prepackaged in smaller quantities for convenience or the friendly and attentive employees will cut for you from the blocks. In addition to cheese, they have Edaleen's ice cream yummmmm!! Coffees, sandwiches and lite fare. They also have some souvenir type items and t shirts. The Cheese Shop is a well kept secret and definitely worth the drive.. you will Not be disappointed!!! It's an amazing little spot! We happen to stumble across this beauty! I thought we were going to get some blocks of cheese to say the least this place really delivers not only in its ambience, but in it's good quality, tasty items. We were happy to head back and try some cheese samples before selecting a few to take home. Our favorite was the ginger bell Gouda! So good! The items available to shop seemed perfectly selected to entertain at home with that next level of sophistication. We tried the ice cream as we took a quick stroll in the back. Ice cream was creamy and the "cookies and coffee" was amazing! Outdoors, the field manicured, I thought to myself "A lot of work has gone into this place" and "how beautiful!" It was great to get to know the hostess and learn that this place is a family run business. Seeing the time spent on details made the entire experience more fun and enjoyable! Highly recommend! Great local business that is making some wonderfully flavorful food! Loved their cheeses, and the staff was liberal about letting us taste different variations of Gouda and Cheddar, their two primary types. We adored their Very Sharp Cheddar but you can choose from Bacon Cheddar, Jalapeno Cheddar, plus the more traditional Mild and Sharp Cheddar as well. Then their Italian Herb Gouda really wowed my wife. Again, a lot of choices to try with Greek, Smoked and more to tempt you. We also sampled their ice creams and the vanilla is very good, the chocolate was not quite chocolaty enough for us, but the salted caramel was just amazing. And the cones are superb. We will be coming back regularly as well as using them as a source for gifts in the future. Closed Sundays and their lunch counter (which was closed when we arrived) closes at 3:00 p.m. Definitely worth your time if you love cheese! read more

My sister took us here as part of our sightseeing near her new digs. Such a sweet place. Cheese plates, noms. Sandwiches, our family shared the roast beef melt. We also enjoyed a strawberry mango smoothie, not much mango, try blueberry perhaps. Not open sundays, but I noticed the open pretty early on weekdays, like 6am. Yowza. Going here is an experience all in itself. Very long driveway leading to a little store on a big farm... Once inside, there are 2 very well laid out open coolers with a nice selection of cheeses, divided by type, then flavors. Cheddar and gouda are the main two, and they come in the standard mild, sharp, etc. as well as having various flavorings such as herbs or bacon added, though you'll pay a bit more for those. There's even one with chocolate chips for the truly adventurous. Occasionally we've seen paneer and quark in there as well, but they don't always have it, so you might want to call ahead to check. They also stock other random 'giftable' wrapped food products like bistro crackers, syrups, and ciders. Overall, it has a country gift shop type atmosphere. Most small wedges weigh around half a pound and start at the $4-$5 mark, and go up from there, but it's excusable since it's primarily a family-run specialty shop, and the product is divine. I can tell the difference between it and your average mass produced store bought cheeses, and there is no comparison. Worth the drive and the price to have farm fresh cheese, the way it's supposed to taste. Staff is very friendly and ring up purchases quickly, also are able to answer every question I've ever had about the farm or the product. read more

The cheese is phenomenal, my favorite is the smoked gouda. My friend loves the Squeakers. I meet my friend for breakfast on Friday but today it was Saturday. One person, Teresa, working the restaurant and drive through. The usual 7 Saturday men there and three youngsters (about 18-20 yo) . Teresa never stopped, got all the coffees and lattes to the right people and took the orders without writing them down. She did not have enough biscuits for our order but we said we will wait for her to bake them, since my friend and I had a lot of catching up to gab about. I got English muffin with smoked Gouda, egg and bacon. My friend got the biscuits and gravy, our usual. Delicious as always and Teresa always smiling. Love, love this place!!!! Great cheese selection. Jalapeño Gouda is unbelievably good. I always buy at least 4 different cheeses to take home. The restaurant is very good. I love the hot Cuban sandwich and it's huge. My daughter likes the grilled havarti cheese sandwich, also very large. The bread is homemade and excellent. Just bought yogurt from these guys at the Columbia City farmers market and I am instantly a loyal customer. I eat yogurt at least twice a day and have tried every kind known to man and this one is a winner. It has amazing flavor and consistency, my only gripes being that its not organic and I didn't see a nonfat option. But at a very affordable $5 for 3lbs it cancels out those issues. I sampled a couple of their cheeses while there and they were all wonderful - I highly recommend Appel Farms products. read more
