Considering our hosts must have been tired after such a weekend invasion, they were wonderfully welcoming and accommodating. They were also non-intrusive and left us to come and go as we pleased. Our suite was delightful and comfortable. Breakfast was left on a tray outside our door by 7:30 each morning and it was delicious. Bayfield is an interesting, artsy town on the Lake Superior shore. The guest house is just a block or two away from the shops and harbor, albeit up a hill. Walking is completely doable if you are of average physical health. The only drawback is minor (to me), but was major to my husband, a Green Bay Packer fan. The guest house, and apparently much of Bayfield, subscribes to Minnesota-based cable TV. It didn't have much to offer, especially the Packer football game. Instead we and hundreds of others packed into the Creamery, a downtown tavern that apparently was the only venue carrying the game. All in all, a beautiful place to stay. Hope to come back again!

The bathroom door was spattered with something brown. The wallpaper, bathroom fixtures were very out of date (1980's?). The mattress has definitely seen better days, not replaced in recent history; it was very uncomfortable. Only 2 flat pillows in room. The sofa also was old and uncomfortable. TV didn't have many channels. There was no shampoo/conditioner in bathroom. The continental breakfast was adequate, but with no table in room to eat on, we didn't partake of much of it. The only time we saw or heard from the innkeepers was at check in and check out. Oh, there was a typed note asking how we intended to pay and if credit, schedule at time to meet the innkeeper in the living room downstairs. He never asked how our stay was. We have chosen to stay in B & B's many times, and have not seen the likes of this - ever. All in all, a very disappointing stay. We would recommend staying anywhere else.

It was the little things that made this a nice stay at this an old fashion motel. Our room was decorated in a fishing theme but in the morning I peeked into other rooms that were unoccupied and they were each decorated in a different northwoods theme. The room was a good size and had two queen beds with plenty of room to spare. It also had a microwave, tv, fridge, ac, a small sitting area and a large sink area outside the bathroom. The room also a screen door...seriously...it was like being at home or a cabin. The outside had chairs and beautiful hanging plants. Also a picnic table off to the side. They even have a freezer full of ice and a fish cleaning station. If you are in the mood for the experience of a classic roadside motel, look no further.

Check-in takes place at the main entry and check-ins post 4 pm will have a cute envelope pinned to the bulletin board with all the room information including door code, printed ferry schedule and other surrounding area pamphlets. Needless to say, it is very safe here. We came during offseason and appreciated the quaint and quiet spaces. We enjoyed how everything was walking distance and took our time getting acclimated with learning all the logistics of the island and our property. If you need to exit the island for any reason, you will have to take the ferry which is the same as how you enter. Our room was clean and spacious. We enjoyed the indoor fireplace, the claw tub which we sadly never got around to using, the giant walk in shower, the comfortable bed, Keurig coffee in the morning hours, the outdoor fire pit, laying patio loungers and being one with nature. Each bungalow has a stove, oven, microwave and mini fridge along with wine glasses, coffee mugs, silverware and plates which we really appreciated!! We were able to leverage the wine glasses and reheat some leftover meals in the microwave. Having the restaurant on property was a great way to start our vacation and knowing it was always open was nice. We saw plenty of deer across the field in the golf course area along with on property. During the evening hours when we had our bonfires, the stars in the sky were bright and the howls of coyotes made their rounds. The staff was able to accommodate our ask for more K-cups along with a later check-out. We will definitely be returning and hope to check out apple fest next year and make this part of our anniversary!! Thank you!!

I chose Wild Rice because of the rave reviews and it happens to be in Bayfield, which is the jumping off point for the Apostle Islands (and was on my bucket list to visit). I chose to stay 3 nights and by the time I had to check out, I wished I had booked for longer. What a peaceful, rejuvenating place - not for everyone but I found it very relaxing and a nice change of pace. To start with, the grounds are beautiful and the property backs up to Lake Superior and the Brownstone Trail. There are different types of cabins/accommodations to choose from but I selected the Ricepod (single room cabin). I thought it was comfortable and had nice finishes - think soft close drawers and french press provided with local coffee. I only wished the cabins were spaced a little further apart. For immersion classes, meals, etc. there was a main lodge. The food and beverage is focused around being locally-sourced, seasonal, and healthy, and I enjoyed it very much. It's a buffet format during certain hours so guests can come at their leisure and there's different seating options both inside (multiple rooms) and the outside deck. I also enjoyed the evening restorative yoga classes before retiring for the night. And lastly, one of the highlights for me was the massage - heavenly! I rarely visit the same place twice for vacation but I'm already thinking about coming back for a winter trip at some point!
