Unfortunately, shortly after we enrolled, that staff member moved to another center, and during the summer, the director also left for an internship. Since then, we've been disappointed by the lack of communication. We received very little information about our kids' progress, staffing changes, teachers leaving, or even the director leaving for the summer. As parents paying nearly $500 a month for two children for one subject, we expected much more consistent communication and oversight. We were also disappointed when the center moved toward iPads during the summer and began offering virtual options. One of the main reasons we chose Mathnasium was because we wanted our kids working through math problems by hand, writing things out, and getting in-person reinforcement. There was no real announcement or explanation to parents about this change. They also changed scheduling apps midway through our time there. While there was an email about the new app, it still felt like another significant change without much context. I do want to commend the tutors. Our kids have enjoyed their teachers, and we've had positive experiences with them individually. Our kids also liked seeing friends from school at Mathnasium. My concern is that it sometimes feels as though young tutors and college students are being expected to carry too much responsibility for running the center. I tutored SAT and AP-level subjects myself while I was in college, but I certainly would not have been expected to run an entire tutoring center. We also rarely heard directly from the owners, which was surprising given the amount families are paying. We have since sought enrollment at another tutoring center where the owners are very involved, communicate directly with families, and continue to have students work through math by hand. That experience has reinforced for us that those things really do matter when choosing a tutoring program. Overall, we feel the quality and communication declined noticeably even during the relatively short time we were there. We had high expectations when we enrolled and really wanted Mathnasium to work for our family, but unfortunately, the experience did not justify the cost for us.

After doing a lot of research and talking to a lot of people, Laurie offered the best price and was the only person I could find who had successfully obtained Texas Bar Exam testing accommodations in the past. There were two appointments involved. At the first meeting, I was assessed through a series of tests lasting about three hours. At the second meeting, Laurie issued a full report in writing, answered all of my questions, and helped me fill out all of the necessary paperwork required by the Bar Examiners. It was clear that Laurie had extensive experience with administration of the specific testing required by the Bar Examiners, and the paperwork required to be submitted when filing the Bar Exam application. In addition, Laurie was extremely pleasant and kind to deal with. Overall, a great experience.

Every part of this review reflects my own personal experiences and perspective as a former student. I share these observations in good faith and hope they offer helpful insight for others. Some teachers were kind and supportive, and I'm grateful for them. But others showed clear favoritism, often treating neurodivergent students, students of color, and those from less affluent families with less patience, care, or respect. I saw students singled out, shamed, or ignored when they needed help. That includes a teacher in the art department, Ms. M**ks (last names) who, despite appearing nice to some, often appeared to treat students who displayed neurodivergence in a harsh and dismissive way. One classmate with ADHD, for example, was frequently criticized for traits beyond their control. I will add that it appears that there is currently a new teacher in her place, and I cannot find this particular teacher on the school website, which is honestly a relief. I watched as she corrected, belittled, or singled out a few (even a few is too many) students who were neurodivergent or just different in how they expressed themselves. One student in particular, who had clear ADHD traits and a real passion for art, was constantly criticized for things like messiness, distraction, or "doing it wrong." It felt like she used that student's neurodivergent traits as targets, rather than offering understanding or support. The dynamic was painful to witness and left a lasting impression on me. There was also a time I was accidentally injured during a class activity involving a particular art material. I wasn't helped or offered first aid--just told it was my fault by that same teacher. That scar stayed on my body for years. There were also incidents involving body shaming in gym class and situations on school trips that felt physically unsafe. Students with invisible needs or without formal diagnoses were often overlooked. While the school talked about values like inclusion and activism, they weren't always reflected in how staff treated students. I hope things have improved since I attended, because all children deserve a safe and supportive learning environment.

We had her tested through her school in 2nd grade, and they told us she was ADHD and should be medicated. We disagreed, and didn't medicate, but she continued to struggle in school. Thanks to Grade Power reconfirming our concerns, we got outside testing completed and lo and behold, she is Dyslexic! She has been on a personal tutoring plan at Grade Power and now also has a 504 in place at school to get additional accommodations to help her learn with her learning differences.
