Pizza/food is awesome.. I usually like a glass of wine with dinner, been to Apollo on Leestown about 4 times. Wine is hit or miss. "Chardonnay? We are out. Okay, red blend? Out. Um what do you have? Pizza is sprays delicious! Before I started working remote, I would come here for lunch on occasion. I've never had a bad experience or bad food! Visited on Friday evening 7/21/23 with my husband and son and I were all got 9" pizzas and also shared fried jalapeño. I got the four cheese, he got the sausage fest, and husband got the il postino I don't typically like a sausage pizza - but this was the best sausage pizza I've ever had. Same for the cheese pizza. I want to like Apollo, I really do which is why i give them chance after chance. First, they have a really great patio for having pizza and beer on a nice day. They also have a solid beer selection. Unfortunately it's mostly downhill from there. We've tried take out, eating on the patio, and today eating inside. Nearly every time the food has been inconsistent. Pizza has usually been average, breadsticks range from way undercooked to above average. The one consistent thing is their customer service is consistently 1 star. We visited today and had the special Detroit style pie. It was the best food we've had here and recommend it become a permanent menu item. The server couldn't be bothered to answer questions or be remotely friendly. Considering we are in a pretty wild time with restaurants struggling to stay open from COVID I was surprised to find that they weren't even wiping down tables when clearing plates from them. We will likely give them a try again down the road but it's going to be a while for us. They've got a lot to work on. read more

I wanted to like Apollo. I really did. The place had good reviews. I need a "go to" sit down pizza joint. Was Apollo that place? Nah. I was initially worried when I went in and saw all the craft beer options. Am I a teetotaler? No. Not at all. But I've learned that restaurants sometimes get overly high marks because they have a ton of microbrews. I blame the hipsters for this. But I judge a restaurant on the food options. We ordered the garlic cheese bread as an appetizer. It is fantastic. Honestly one of the best appetizers ever. I was so excited. I thought I had been so wrong to assume the place had overly high hipster ratings. What a fool I had been. Then the pizza came. We went with a Bellino original crust and a cheese thin crust. When I first saw the Bellino, I thought, "Man, that looks a lot like a Digiorno." Then we tried it. I thought, "Man, that tastes a lot like a Digiorno." Look, I'm not saying that they served me a Digiorno. But I am saying I paid a lot more for that pizza than a $10 Digiorno and it wasn't any better. Lack of sauce. Lack of that fresh flavor you're looking for at an excellent pizza place. Lack of zing. I'm not even gonna speak to the cheese pizza thin crust. Just avoid. Not worth mentioning. It's always hard to rate these experiences. If you want to meet up with your hipster friends, down a couple overpriced microbrews, complain about your student loans, and share a garlic cheese bread, you're gonna have a great time. Today I went and picked up my wife for lunch and we were undecided as to what we wanted to eat. Instead of turning left on Leestown Rd, (Like we always do), we decided to turn right and see what was down the road. While we don't understand as to why this place has been given 3 and a half stars, our experience certainly DOES NOT match up. When we walked in, the staff was very friendly, accommodating and attentive. The building was clean, they had 24oz Drinks. I got an Ale8 and my wife got a Mr Pibb. They had 3 TV's inside and they were tuned to a Tennis Game. After we ordered our food I got the Meatball Sandwich and my wife got the Hot Brownie Pizza. Our food came out Hot and after taking a first bite OOOOH! That Meatball Sandwich was so good with Pizza sauce and Mozzarella cheese. The Waiter checked on us several times and he Even had 1 of his other staff members check on us while he was attending to a Party outside on the Patio. NOW THATS SERVICE. Being that we have never been here before, we are so glad that we came AND, can't wait to go back when we have a BIGGER Appetite and more time. There are definitely pros and cons about Apollo's. The seating area inside isn't huge, but the large outdoor seating is great during the warmer months. The beer selection has a nice variety, with a definite emphasis on local companies, which we love. We've had several pizzas that we really enjoyed, but several really just haven't hit the mark. The bacon and mac & cheese pizza sounds SO good, but really wasn't very flavorful. In contrast, the bacon chicken ranch and the all-meat pizzas were delicious (can you tell we like bacon?). The same is true for appetizers - the fried ravioli was just so-so, but other apps have been fine. Apollo's can be a little inconsistent, but the service has always been great and we've never had a *bad* experience. It's like the saying goes - even the so-so pizza is still pizza. read more

Marcy the GM greeted us on the way in and then seated us and took our order. She was so nice and friendly. She told us all about this gem of a pizza place which hails from Richmond, KY. I'll have to say, Apollo's is a welcome addition to Lexington where really amazingly good pizza is always in need. First we ordered the fried mushrooms which are made specifically for Apollos. These shrooms were outstanding! She gave us a cup of the marinara as well as the ranch and both pair equally well with my fried fungus. My son and I split a 14-in pizza, half basil, fresh mozz, and meatballs and half banapeppers and mushrooms. Look at this pie! Overall, the pizza tastes good, but it isn't the best in town. The crust is really thin and the toppings can be meager. I ordered the Gangster pizza which, according to the menu, claims to include "criminal amounts" of sausage. By "criminal," I assumed they meant "more than should be legal." Instead, it appears it meant, "so little you feel like you have been robbed" because the pizza barely contained any sausage at all. Some pieces didn't have any. What was there tasted good, but it was laughably minimal. The vegetarian pizzas have a little more toppings. And the price is decent considering what you get. But then he has to ask all over what I wanted ...? Then I add on wings. Oh nope, out of those but he offers another type but I'm like ok, sure but those aren't GF, right?!? No. So I said well i can't have those, so just the pizza. I show up 24 minutes later and they said it'd be ready in 20. Show up and it takes a few minutes to get the order so I'm assuming it's fresh out of the oven! Nope. It gets handed to me and the bottom of the box is not only not hot, it's COLD. I'm pissed now but whatever I don't want to complain...maybe it's still good I'll just heat it at home. Get home and it is in fact COLD. Do you not have heat lamps?! Look at it and the mushrooms are pale canned mushrooms. Poor quality ingredients sparsely placed. Seriously, who uses canned mushrooms anymore?! I warm it up and try it. It's HONESTLY the worst tasting and worst texture pizza I've had in my life. It's chewy, rubbery, tasteless. And this tiny almost personal sized pizza with cheap ingredients cost $15. I can't tell you the last time I've been so disappointed in a restaurant. If I was dining in I would have sent this back. Most feature local or craft breweries and offer a great selection. I honestly think they keep one of the best rotating tap lists in Lexington. Food is always great! I spoke with the guy up front for a minute, not sure if he was the owner or not, he said they just started taking carry out orders last week. They wanted to make sure they had a good system and their timing was right before doing carry out. Everyone leaving bad reviews about that have obviously never owned or know how to run a business.
