Bad first experience with Mad Mushroom, after hearing good things. I regret suggesting it to my party. We'd just had coffee around the corner at Chaotic Good, and were thinking of where to grab food for the night. We figured it was a weekend, so we decided a small splurge might be nice, and Mad Mushroom was right there. Whoops. Walked in and placed an order for takeout, place was empty but the service seemed nice. The woman taking our order was friendly, even complimenting my partner's pride-colored watch band. We were excited, it seemed like the kind of place we'd come back to. Ordered two pizzas and some breadsticks, for a total of $69 and some change, before a 20% tip (that, in hindsight, seems a bit much). Not the most budget-friendly, but we've spent more on fancy pizza, so it didn't seem so bad, as long as we got what we paid for. One pizza was a monthly special, and as far as I can tell, it came out alright. The other was a make-your-own 16" pizza with 5 toppings, coming in just over $30. Pepperoni (the "cup and char" variety, specificlaly), Mushrooms, Ricotta, Garlic, and Peppadew. We get home, check the pizzas, and don't see any pepperoni. I check the label to make sure they got the order right, and the toppings are clearly listed right there on the box, "CNCP" for Cup 'N' Char Pepperoni. Okay, maybe it's hidden under the cheese, which would be weird when we specifically asked for the kind that is supposed to "cup and char" in the oven, but almost forgivable, even at the price point. Upon further inspection, nope. Not a single piece. That sucks. It's okay, we'll call and they'll probably make it right; it would suck, but I could drive back out and pick up another pizza while the other one gets cold, or maybe they'll let us pick up a correct pizza tomorrow. Nope. My partner called; I wish I'd called instead. They were offered a refund. Of one topping. On a $30 pizza, missing the only meat. Imagine paying for a burger and being told you could have $1 back because they forgot the beef, or ordering a latte and being told you could have $0.50 back because they forgot the milk. That would be insane, right? Would it be so weird to expect someone to re-make either, correctly? In the process of asking about all this, they apparently messed up while trying to do even this much, and cancelled the whole order, asking my partner to read their credit card out over the phone so they could CHARGE THE ORDER AGAIN. Minus the cost of one topping, apparently. For some reason, my partner agreed to do this. They were unclear, but seemingly also "credited" us $5 towards our next visit, "for the trouble." Absolutely ridiculous. So if we want to chase their mistake with money at a future time to hopefully get a correct order, we'll be spending $7 less? Just make it right! It's not the customer's fault if you mess up on something that is clearly listed on the order. Re-make the pizza tonight, refund the pizza, or credit us the full price so we can get what we actually wanted the next time we come in; because if that were the case, there might BE a next time. I guess the lesson learned is that we need to stick with old favorites that have never let us down, and there's a ton of those around here. It's a shame, because what we do have tastes good enough. I don't know if it's $30-a-pizza good; we can do better at Puccini's, Goodfella's, or Joe B's. But there seems to be some effort made to use good ingredients, so that gets another star. The mistake itself wouldn't have cost a star, if it weren't for the refusal to just re-make the damn pizza. read more

I started buying pizzas here when my son was at UK, as I could order online and have them delivered to his dorm/house. He always loved them. More recently, we stop in for lunch specials or get pizza and grinders to go. The last handful of times we've been there, it's been good, as it has over the years, but recently, it seems they've taken things up a notch with customer service. They have specials, they go out of their way to remember regular customers, they make sure the order is right and to your satisfaction, they make sure you leave with a good feeling about doing business there. Making your customers smile each visit and making sure the pizza is prepared to perfection is what keeps me coming back to Mad Mushroom! read more

I ordered through DoorDash and only received part of my order. I called the store and the service received was terrible. When I told the employee that I didn't receive my whole order there was no apology or understanding or attempt to resolve the problem. All he said was "That's DoorDash's problem. You need to call them. That's not my problem, that's theirs." I disagreed and asked how it was their problem that they didn't hand the driver my full order?" I understand this order was placed through 3rd party, and I understand there's a sharing of responsibility in the mistake, but for there to be no understanding, no apology, no acceptance of any responsibility made this situation so much worse. My issue started with not receiving what I ordered, but what's worse than that was the complete lack of care and concern that my order wasn't fully delivered. The employee called me "naive" in my complaint. Basically what was communicated to me was "You're not my customer, you're DoorDash's customer." Even when I was conveying my frustration that "I paid you $62 for a single pizza" his response was "You didn't pay us anything. You paid DoorDash." Just an unbelievable experience. read more

For the size of Lexington, there are not as many (non-major chain) pizza delivery options as I'd expect. Mad Mushroom has always been a great choice for me though. Orders are always correct, fresh, and prompt not to mention you aren't going to find a better order of cheese sticks. read more

I've had their pizza a few of times and each time, the pizza was incredible. Their Hotbrown pizza rendition that they offered during Pizza Week was my favorite option of pizza of all of the pizza options. They were one of the only ones that offered a small pie, instead of a shabby slice like the some of the other WP participates offered. Way to go, taking advantage of the marketing benefit of Pizza Week. I've since been been back twice after pizza week. The Hotbrown pizza is no longer offered, which is my only peeve here. They have salads, sub sandwiches, calzones and cheese sticks that seem to be the highlight here. I just want the dang Hotbrown pizza! read more

This is the only pizza week place that I have eaten which your soft drink was included for $6.00 which was a pleasant surprise. I hadn't eaten a Mad Mushroom pizza for a long time, probably a good 15 years long time. But I saw an ad and was craving pizza. I remembered those cheese sticks from my college days and called in an order. Not more than 15-20 minutes later there was a pizza and some cheese sticks on my doorstep. It's not the best pizza I'm town but it's decent and fast. And the bread sticks were as good as I remembered, maybe even better. read more

I read others reviews and decided to go with the majority on what is best to order. I went with the medium cheese bread with sausage and mushrooms. With that, you get 3 sauces, and plenty of choices. I asked for 2 garlic butter and 1 marinara, and I ordered a couple of 2 liters of soda. (I'm in town for a few days to help my daughter through a surgery, in a hotel, and in the middle of a snowstorm) I also needed napkins, paper plates, Parmesan, and pepper flakes, which I specifically asked them to make sure they put that in there. That was a need and request of mine, and they dropped the ball. They forgot that. I'd otherwise give them 5 stars because the cheese sticks were absolutely delicious. I wanted to like this pizza, but man, it was not worth the pain. I ordered cheesestix and a mushroom and black olives pizza, along with marinara and ranch sides. The greasy goodness was fine going down and tasted about like what you would expect at 2am on a Saturday morning, but minutes later, it hit HARD. Almost immediately after having two slices and some cheese sticks, my stomach started rumbling and I could feel the block of grease and cheese sitting heavily. I had stomach pain and was in discomfort all night, and I know it wasn't just me, because the same thing happened to my friend after they ate only ONE slice of pizza. The amount of discomfort wasn't worth it, and sadly next time I will be ordering carryout from one of the traditional chains. Hopefully this was just a one-off fluke, but I won't be willing to take that risk again. If you are able to survive this poison pizza, on a positive note, the staff were nice, pizza was ready quickly, and the menu sports a wide variety, as well as specials on different days throughout the week. Not only do they have great pizza but their salad and sandwiches are the bomb. the sandwiches are huge literally as long as my arm so I would go with a half portion even to share. The salad is giant too and super reasonably priced. Tomatoes are fresh. read more

I had never eaten at mad mushroom but my work ordered so I did too. I made my own grinder with mayo, onion, mushrooms, artichoke hearts and mozz cheese. I ordered a 12 ounce pepsi with the sandwich and it came to $20!!! I almost fell over! BUT...I did not know how LARGE the large grinders were. It was HUGE!! And it was amazing. I think they have the word "MAD" in their company name because that's how you're going to feel after ordering their pizza. Granted I ordered a pizza at 12:30am when they quit taking orders by 1:00am but if that was a trigger for them I'd have been happier if they told me it was just too late. Here I am in the ER at Central Baptist and I've not eaten all day. I didn't plan on being admitted but hey I was worse off than I had realized. Keep in mind this isn't supposed to be Pizza Hut CHAIN pizza. It cost more. It's supposed to because it's supposed to be better right? Well no. I mean it could have but I feel they skimped on the the actual pizza part. I ordered the extra large Greek and requested extra Tzatziki sauce. Okay so it didn't have extra sauce and it didn't have tomatoes as the menu states. That's okay because it barely had anything but crust. Essentially I received a small pizza "MAYBE" with my index finger length of crust surrounding it topping free. I'm including pictures. It's not like they don't charge a delivery fee and it's not like I didn't tip $3.00 cash. So point being it felt like I was served up a crappy pizza because of my late order to teach me a lesson. I'm not in the habit of such a thing but I ended up in a bad situation and was initially thankful someone was open for delivery at all. All I know is, it turned out to be a horrible day and the silver lining I was thinking would help just ended up being another black mark on the day. Good pizza, but I bet it would have been great if it was hot! We ordered delivery today (a Wednesday) and waited an hour and a half for it to be delivered 2.2 miles. It was room temp, at best. Luckily our salads weren't hot and wilted. The food was good, and we happily ate it all. But when I called to find out where our pizza was the guy arrived as I was on the phone. However, we were offered nothing other than a poor excuse of an apology, citing "just getting back in the swing of things from spring break" as the reason for the delay.
