Tonight was the second time we've been in here and even though I love some of the drinks, and the establishment itself is super cute, I don't think I'll ever be back because of how rude the woman at the counter has been both times. I've tried asking questions about the beverages, the food situation, and recent events and anything I ask has been met with nothing but a horrible attitude and short unhelpful answers. The atmosphère is very cool. It would be cooler if they offered wine along with cider and mead. There's the brew lab next door, for beer drinkers, and they sort of share a patio area. When I was there, there was a great food truck and a live band. I've lived here for years and had never been. I'm so excited we have a new venue for live music. You can also get empanadas from a place near by. The crowd was really mellow, kid and dog friendly. Although, maybe keep the pups at home on live music nights because it got pretty loud and some pups seemed a bit terrified. There were also a few dogs off leash, which is never safe. Wasn't sure what to expect. I love a cold, big beer. Ciders and meads. Not normally our thing. I'm coming around to ciders but meads, I was skeptical. Probably going to suck. What the hell? Yelpers seem to love it. And dang it, they're right. Flight of 6 for $22 sounds a bit much but they are good sized tasters. This stuff is apparently not easy to make in abundance so I was happy to pay and explore new alcoholic beverages. They offer full pours but we had to try more. "The Darkest Flower." This mead me a believer. So good. I hope they have that on tap always. I will order it every time. Multiple times. The ciders were good. 2/3 were great. I just can't stop thinking of that mead. The tasting room is small and quaint. Decent crowd on hand playing card games, drinking, or trying to corral the local dog that wanders the room. Worth a visit. We'll be back. read more

A fun little meadery/cidery/kombucha-y in Carpenteria! Yes, Google Maps took you to the right place. It's in the middle of a business park, but the interior makes you totally forget that fact! We tried *almost* everything available, and boy we enjoyed it all!! Who knew mead could be good. Turns out, it's good! Jun (green tea kombucha) was also a neat experience beyond the regular black tea kombucha we're used to. Not a favorite, but tasty! The guy working behind the bar was extremely pleasant, hospitable, helpful, and informative. The entire vibe was laid back and chill (a welcomed mood after a few rambunctious cideries), with fun conversation had by all! Went there yesterday, it was a quick stop on the way to Ventura, and it was kind of an accident. I was actually looking to grab a beer at BrewLab and I pulled over knowing I was close, found myself smack dab in front of the Apiary. Apiary makes the most delicious Meads! their recipes are creative and each one has a distinct flavor. It is impossible to pick a favorite. Rachna was super knowledgeable and nice. She was very patient with all of my questions. They have jun and gluten free beverages. The jun was tasty. The ambience is great. Nice place for a date. You can get stuff on tap in a bottle to take home if you like. They have empanadas on Friday and Saturday around 5pm. It's cool we have a place like this in carp! Mead and cider on tap. Flights are available to sample 6 different ones together. Nice to share with someone to help decide which you like best. Last time I was here I had the lavender one. So good! They make small batches,so they no longer have that one....they do have one called "alfalfa" at the moment 7.9%. I really like it! This is a small but exceptionally quaint and adorable place !! Who knew you could fit so much personality into here. Patio had live music that was great. Candice absolutely completed if not held together the entire experience!!! Have been reading about mead and traditional brews that include herbs and live cultures, making a magical junction between recreational alcohol and traditional medicinal goodness... This place actually makes them!!! They just opened a few months ago and are run by an herbalist and a brew dude. Every one of the nine concoctions on tap blew me out of the water. Delicious, exotic, dramatically different from each other, intoxicating... Just go if you are a fan of beer, wine, cider, new things, old things, forgotten things... The Apiary has one location but the west coast would be improved greatly if there were more locations. This is the ideal crunchy-mom-hang out. I love that my kids can hang out in their back lot, play with their word magnets, board games, or on their chalkboard while I catch up with friends and relax. The best mead I have had in my life. So much variety! Their list is constantly shifting - so order a flight! Some are dry, some are effervescent and citrusy-sweet, and some are malty or sour. As a rule, if it has avocado honey order it. If it has hops added in - order it. Each time I come in, I find three new meads and ciders to fall in love with. The single negative thing about Apiary is that of course the varieties run out and are replaced, so you can never have the exact same thing again. Yes, the interior is very hipster-cool, but hey, it works! As a beekeeper, I love the bee-box bar, the hive sideboard flights... all the little details. It's a beautiful place that they put a lot of work into making. And hey, ever wondered if empanadas pair well with mead? Come on a Friday or Saturday night, and find out. They have Che Empanadas making some of the best in CA out back. He is always a delight to talk to, and makes divine chimichurri. Apiary is a good experience, every time. I come here once or twice a month from Goleta, and it is worth the drive without fail. The folks working there are kind and exude positivity. They work so hard to maintain a beautiful, spirited little slice of happiness. read more

Maybe you've had mead or cider before and thought "meh"; the Apiary will absolutely make you change your mind. I don't live near Carpinteria anymore so I'm thankful they ship, but when the storefront is open it's a great atmosphere to sit and have a flight to try whatever is in season - figure out what you like best, and bring a bottle home. Well I have been here now probably 20 times and I only discovered this place a few months ago. Luckily being positioned in Carpinteria I have been able to use this venue as a meeting place between my LA and Santa Barbara friends it is truly a gem local Kombucha brewery with innovatively delicious flavors such as Drink Your Flowers, Self-Care, and Original Jun. Each special brew using a locally sourced honey from the Santa Barbara region. I think this last detail is what makes the kombucha so special. After being a few times I believe it's only a matter of time before the apiary expands to a larger space as it is always jampacked full of people. On weekends there are also options for food available although I have never ventured to try any of the food offerings other than the Hippy Pop ( shoutout to another SB favorite ever snack!). If Carpinteria is on your way home I definitely recommend giving the apiary a try it is Carpinteria's best kept secret! read more

The inside of the Apiary is a sweet beehive of white stained wood giving the small space a rustic, intimate feel, as if it were tucked away somewhere in Humboldt County rather than inside of a building with a chilly corporate facade. The Jun and Mead menus are both creative and varied with tasters available for each offering. My first drink was the Satsuma mandarin Jun which exploded in my mouth with mandarin flavor.
