I was a bit skeptical about getting glass replaced on my 25 year old patio door. I was told it couldn't be done without ruining the cladding. The service tech that did it was very careful and did an amazing job, he was able to get cladding off and put it back on without damaging it.They had to come back for a minor repair, which took the service technician about five minutes to fix. They are very professional and efficient, and did a very good clean job. I would consider them again for a project of this sort. Have had the most frustrating time working with apex. Starting back in November, we had a missing piece of wood around one of our windows. We schedule a service appointment to get it fixed and had to take off work to be home with it. We waited two hours after the time period they said they were coming, only to get a call saying that they wouldn't be able to come that day. Then we had to take another day off work to be home for them. When they finally did fix it, the window wasn't wiped when they put the seal and wood on leaving lots of condensation, dust, and debris. We called to see if they could do anything about it and they said they would get back to us but never did. After countless calls and emails over the next few months, they finally answered a call and scheduled a service to check it out. Unfortunately, that night their system had a glitch and at midnight they called and left me 61 voicemails and emails. Then, a service person came on a day that I did not have it scheduled so no one was home and we had to send him away. After another week of constant calls, we finally got someone to come out to look at it and they said they would get back to us in a few days. We never heard back and once again, are trying and struggling to reach them. The communication here is so poor and this has been an extremely frustrating now 4 month process to try to fix something minor. read more

My walk out slider was broken down. It was a Pella. Denis came out very quickly and gave me a competitive quote. We commissioned them as we've had them do exemplary work previously. This repair has a hitch but Alexander came right back out and it's beautifully done. Denis coordinated the work orders etc so I'm 100% satisfied and recommend them. Do Not Recommend. Very sloppy and unprofessional work seems to be the norm. First time out, the two workers continued working well after dark until 7 or 8PM, leaving windows open, never shutting front door, and letting cool Fall night air in throughout our house with a newborn baby. I suggested many times they come back and finish it the next day and I started asking after 5PM when they planned to finish and kept getting answers of 'soon', '45 minutes' for almost 3 hours. Of course it was dark so I couldnt really evaluate the work, but from some of the things I saw and pointed out during the day I was concerned. The quality was extremely inconsistent. The wood work itself seemed mostly ok but the rest was disastrous. Bent nails hammered down, nails protruding from the edge of the new sill with a poor attempt to conceal with caulk. Ah yeh, caulk slathered everywhere. Caulk to concealing misaligned and poor miters between sills and mouldings. Caulk between window and weatherstripping(I was told they would replace the 30yo weatherstripping as their site says they do, even though they apparently 'no longer do that', and only as long as I purchased the weatherstripping myself which I could get at any home depot, they said. I spent hours going to multiple home depots and other stores with a chunk of my old weather stripping and no one carried anything like it. Then I was told that my warped,moldy, old dry weather stripping was, in fact, 'still good' and they would just 'put it back'. I didnt have much choice since I could no locate any replacement. So they put it back, filthy and warped, on new mouldings and sills. And then unbelievably slathered caulk between the warped stripping and the sills/mouldings, and above the warped stripping and mouldings and then painted over that. Great, now I guess I wont even be able to change the weatherstripping myself when I find it. They were supposed to adjust multiple casement window latches that wouldnt lock - never bothered and I ended up figuring out how to do it all myself. So I contacted the Apex. I specifically requested different workers to come out to fix things, because 1) I had no confidence in their ability and hoped it was maybe a fluke, 2) Hoped that another skilled professional could vett their work - afterall, I am not an expert at all so I assume if there was that many defects I could notice that there was probably just as many or more that my untrained eye was missing. Another problem I had noticed was that the new sills had no slight downward slope so would pool up water on them after rain, not good if you dont want them to rot. They agreed and said theyd be back about 3 weeks later. The exact same workers were sent. Worked afternoon until well after 7PM again. Removing messes of caulk, fixing nails, sanding down the sills so water actually flowed off. Leaving doors and windows open again filling the house with yet colder Fall air. They finally said they were done and of course it was pitch black out, I wasn't even going to try to evaluate the work until daytime. They tried to get me to sign a form authorizing charging my previous credit card + a 3% fee. I refused , as I was not charged a 3% fee for my initial downpayment and I had yet to evaluate the work since it was dark. I specifically crossed out and initialed the line stating they were "authorized to charge my original card" and/or charge me a 3% fee. And that I would pay via alternate means when the job was satisfactorily completed. The next day I noticed quickly that all 4 windows upstairs had been sanded down to wood and unlike the downstairs windows had not been repainted leaving it all exposed to the winter weather that was now upon us. Another 3 upstairs windows hadnt been sanded at all. I once again contacted Apex who said they would send out a project manager, Vadim, for a quality check. Vadim is a pleasant guy and one of the reasons I went with Apex to begin with. I walked him around and showed him how things were left. Explained my frustration at having to constantly do QC in an area that I am not trained in, and how I expected professional quality work which is why I hired professionals. He seemed to understand and said he would take my feedback and see what could be worked out. With the cold weather, I now noticed window tracks had been reattached sloppily and at an angle, with stripped screws, letting in cold drafts particularly bad on two of the windows and sent photos. I was out of town the next week but received a message from Apex that they'd give me a $100 discount 'for my trouble' and expected full payment now. Wow -$100 on a $5000 job that still isnt complete. They called again on Wednesday asking for payment and before I could even call them back, they made an unauthorized charge to my card of the remaining balance +3%. I contacted my credit card company and now they are being investigated for fraud. Will be meeting with my lawyer about next steps read more

Our large picture window developed a thermal stress crack during the extreme cold. When asking around, we were repeatedly told that we would need to replace the entire window section which was quoted from $5-10K. I had a couple windows cracked and many foggy ones; I called Apex for a budget; I had some personal situations and couldn't move on with the repairs right away; I called them almost 2 years later to get the quote updated and they were able to maintain the same price even when everyone has been going up! I accepted the job, and in a few days they came back with everything ready; installation seems to be pretty good, it's been one day only so I cannot judge quality yet, but I dont have any concerns; everything seems right and professionally done. A few things to know about Apex in Wheeling, IL 1st of the guy was 1.5 hours late. He did call me and said he would be there in 30 min.. I called and canceled the appt. He still showed up another20 min after my call.almost 2 hrs later... So Apex called back and wants to reschedule I said ok. The same guy comes back..and and he took my windows totally out! And now instead of 1 wi down off track I have both windows off track. He left and I called the office to speak with a supervisor with broken English Sarina didn't understand at all she is rude and dosent qualify to be a supervisor. They only work one day a week in my area, which is difficult to start with. They came in and measured for five window repairs, but only showed up with four. Now they will come back in another 2 weeks!!! Then they had to order another one and recharged me more for the "environmental fee" even though it should've been included in the first group of windows. For the trouble of rescheduling in other two weeks, as well as having to take my time off of work again to be there, they should've given me a discount. Guys were difficult to schedule just for the estimate, as you can't request a time window, all you can do is request the day and then they'll automatically assign you a timeslot the day prior. Because of this, we had to keep rescheduling because the times they kept giving me didn't work. Onsite they weren't great either. They wanted me to temporarily disconnect the power line that runs to the house for them to repair a window. How am I supposed to do that? The alternative was to replace the window, as they could do that from the inside, but the quote was $1500 to replace it. I faced many issues with the purchase of replacement glass for 3 windows. The first issue was them reneging on a discount rate. I had a quote for more windows than I actually purchased but when they told me my discount would be reduced for less work, I asked to review both quotes to make an informed decision. They told me the first quote went away and was not retrievable. Next, they measured for the 3 windows I decided to purchase twice. They scheduled an installation date and two hour time window (for the afternoon) and missed the window. I had to call them to get a status update. I later canceled the appointment because it was getting dark (who installs windows in the dark?). This was unacceptable to me. When they did come, the middle of 3 windows did not fit. In addition, the two windows that did fit only had four "panels" instead of five which was the order. Next, I had to cancel the next install date/time due to a family emergency. I rescheduled the appointment when I canceled. On the day before installation, I called them because I did not hear from them regarding the time they were coming. (I took a day off work for this installation). They told me they didn't have me on the schedule. When I tried to reschedule they asked me how many windows they were installing because they lost the paperwork. The windows were finally installed. read more
