Great reviews, great value, and centrally located! Registration is due and my car needs a smog check this year. I have a front wheel drive 2010 VW CC with the 2.0 turbo 4 cylinder (PZE). I called the place I used the last time, but their price doubled . I found great reviews for APEX Smog, and a coupon for $30 (price is for cars, add $10 for other vehicles), and they were only a few more miles from the old place. The coupon is from their website. The whole process was easy. I got lucky and just as I pulled up, the last customer was just getting their test finished up... so I was next. 3 minutes later I was pulling my car up to the bay. I popped the hood, got out of the car and presented my coupon (as stated on the coupon), signed a form for what I was paying for, and handed her the key. I asked if I could grab a bite to eat next door and the tech said, "sure." APEX Smog's location couldn't be more perfect if you do have to wait a little. There are several restaurants close by. I recommend Sr. Taquitos and Elote if you do grab a bite somewhere. Be quick! The test takes about 10-15 minutes. 5 stars for great value, location, and friendly staff. read more

Brought my car in today. Clerk told me she "didn't want to work on it" and "would fail it" for the Smog Test. She proceeds to point at my engine and tells me that she doesn't know what's going on with the "vacuum tubes". I took the car to another Smog Test site immediately after and got it Passed within 10 minutes. What a nasty woman inspector working for them! From the start she had a sulky attitude, or maybe its just she's a racist who dosn't like white women. She failed me over a taped hose that I wasn't even aware was taped. None of my mechanics in San Marcos taped it, so maybe it was from before I bought it in 2004? In any case when she said I'd failed but still had to pay her $40 I said Oh Sh** I don't know where I'm going to come up with that paying $90 to get smoged! I just spent $1400 replacing my catalytic converters. She replied I would have to get it fixed and take it somewhere else, she didn't like my mouth???. I went in to get a smog test, there was only one customer ahead of me and I was told the wait time was 30 minutes. I had a coupon for $29.99 with $10 extra for my type of vehicle. Now, I know my math skills aren't great and I know taxes have to be added but how does a service that should be just under $50, end up being almost $60? Then the guy tells me it'll be an extra $2 if I want to pay with a credit or debit card. And then he tells me the new total will be almost $70. I told him since I had a half hour, I'd go down the street to get cash and he snapped at me telling me that he can't save my spot in line. I told him to do what he has to do because I'm going to pay cash because it's cheaper. While driving to the bank, the more upset I got that he was trying to cheat me and not honor the coupon at all. We went to get our vehicle smogged and the attendant stated "We do not take coupons on Sundays because they have a hard time finding technicians to work on Sundays". How is that my problem? I had a coupon and needed a smog on my Range Rover. I called the shop to ask how long the wait would be. I was told 20 minutes if I came right away. When I got there on the 100 degree day, Missy said to wait in my car and I would be next. I sat in my air-conditioned car to wait. When the car before me was done, Missy came up to my window to let me know it was my turn. She directed my car into the garage where the smog was to take place. I filled in my information on the form, gave her the coupon and the DMV paperwork and she got started. I waited in the shade as she diligently performed the smog on my car. She worked very hard and fast despite the hot weather. The smog only took 15-20 minutes. When I got there, she didn't seem to be very friendly, but I gave her a break because of the horrific heat. I do not recommend this place at all. My daughter went in for a smog after recently having a new battery installed in her car which resulted in her not passing her smog (this is normal) she paid for it and was asked to return after driving a certain amount of miles on the new battery so that it could be retested. When she came back for a retest, the lady said she passed and told her she needed to pay again. My daughter showed her the receipt from the first visit and the lady ripped it out of her hands and hid my daughters keys in her drawer and demanded my daughter pay full price again after originally telling her that it was no charge for a retest. The cops ended up having to be called because she got crazy even telling the other customers that my daughter was a thief and called her a drug addict. NEVER go here!!! The only woman worker ( she wears glasses and is heavier set) she will rip you off and try to double charge you. I went here for my smog, the first time i didn't end up passing due to getting a new battery (which is normal to not pass), then got told to come back to do a retest within a couple days after racking some miles up. After going back to do my retest, the second time she tried to double charge me after i already payed for my smog the first time and then went on to say i'm a thief for explaining to her exactly what she told me and telling her i wasn't going to pay that price after already getting my smog done. She then went on to calling the cops and taking the situation way further than it needed to be. In all honestly, this woman is a thief herself and very unprofessional. She will talk badly about you to all her customers in line. I definitely DO NOT recommend this place to anybody, even if it is cheaper by a little.
