Went here for smog. I had some work done on my car before coming in such as a new catalytic converter. He was asking a lot of questions about the car and what was done. He told me the catalytic converter was "upside down" so he couldn't see the numbers. I immediately went to the shop that installed down the street and got the car up on a lift. The part only goes on one way. We all thought it was ridiculous that he would say something like that. I went to another smog station within the hour and the car passed with no issues. My impression of him went from helpful to straight up shady. read more

I've used this place several times and always been happy with the results. It seems like it is the same guy every time I go it but he is supper friendly and nice. This time I was able to get a same day appointment which was nice. One thing I really like is the employee always gives friendly advice on how to maintain your vehicle. Reading "Gary H" review, I can't help but feel he is a little disingenuous about his rating. "Never complains?" This is one time he needed to ask Ed about the "broken in two" gas cap. This is a business transaction, not a personal matter. A little initiative on "Gary H" part would have put the matter to rest. Instead he torpedoes the owner on Yelp, making it a personal matter. If you read all the other reviews on Yelp, it is obvious the owner helps people resolve problems. It appears "Gary H" didn't give the owner a chance to solve his problem. As for me, I am a long time customer, returning to Auto Park Smog Service each time one of my vehicles needs certification. I agree with all the others that the owner, Ed, is friendly, helpful and efficient. If it were otherwise I would be going somewhere else. Maybe "Gary H" should give Ed another try. I showed up randomly at this shop without an appointment to see if they had any openings. I am originally an out of state driver and unfamiliar with Smog checks in general. Not only did they try and fit me in, the man working took the time to diagnose my car, and test my gas cap. Unfortunately my engine light is on, so I will need to get repairs before I can clear a smog test. He did not charge me for the tests, and gave me some very helpful tips on what I needed fixed, and to make sure and drive after having my computer engine cleared so I would past the DMV test. An immensely helpful shop, which didn't charge me anything. I was exceedingly impressed and appreciative- I live in SD, but would consider driving back to Escondido to have my smog check done at this location. read more

Found this place and not only did it have great reviews but was just down the street from where I was. Walked in without an appointment and was told he would be able to squeeze me in after the next guy. Whole process was easy, and he told me all my numbers look good and don't need to worry about fixing anything as my numbers were all really good. He failed my Cats cause it was the wrong model. apperently i had an isuzu hd. which was not found anywhere on the pink slip registration or on the side of the door. i called gmc for an estimate for cats. when i gave them my vin number they said i had the right cats and im good. This place was perfect. I didn't have an appointment, just walked right in and only had to wait for the guy in front of me. The man at the counter was VERY helpful. He warned me that there was someone ahead of me and also told me a pretty accurate wait time. While I waited for my smog check (which only took about 20 minutes) I looked on YELP and found that there is a diner only a few blocks away that has inexpensive breakfast. I was planning on going there but the wait was SO SHORT that I just waited a few minutes and continued on with my day! Later I heard positive things about that diner. I would like to point out that I have been ripped off in Escondido. The sign at this place said the smog check was going to be $62. The smog check was $62. I didn't need a coupon and they didn't pile on the fees after I left. I didn't need a coupon, the price was fair, and the guy behind the counter was fast and detailed. At the end of the transaction he gave me all the information I needed to get my papers in ASAP. He told me about the kiosk at the DMV and about AAA and about the online methods. I will go here again if I ever need a smog check in Escondido. The only reason I gave it a 4 star is because I know that you can get a cheaper smog check within escondido (all the coupons say you can, at least) but I prefer this place now. I showed up for my appointment, he brought my car in and less than 20 minutes later was giving me my certificate. He told me that on busy days his wife comes down to help out. If you've looked at my history, I almost never give a bad review. However, the owner of this establishment treated me worse than the DMV. I took one of my classic cars in to get smogged after having my mechanic check it out and make sure that it would pass. Ed smogged my car, but withheld the results until he had dispensed with all his other customers, making me wait a long time. Then after everyone was gone, he notified that my car did not pass --like he was afraid I would make a scene in front of his other customers, which I would never do. So I paid the bill and left. When I got out to my car, Ed had broken my gas cap to my car (like in half). I think he was hoping I wouldn't notice or something. Thanks for wasting my time, taking my money, and breaking an irreplaceable part of my car --and not having the decency to apologize for it. Needless to say, I've never been back. read more

I'm used to having to wait 15-30 mins AFTER arriving before having service done, but not here!
