SO FRUSTRATED! My favorite strength circuit class has gone from a large group class (40-50) in the gym and been moved to the small studio that only fits 24; needless to say for the second week using their SPIVI app the class is full as soon as it is released on the app and I cannot attend :( I have complained to Apex management twice to no avail and been given many excuses. Bottom line is they either can't or won't figure out how they can accommodate summer camp and 2 HOURS A WEEK in the gym for a class with year round attendance. The city of McKinney needs to take a long look at their management team at the APEX Center. read more

After moving from 10 minutes away from the waterpark capitol of the US, Wisconsin Dells Noah's Ark, it's hard to get my kids too excited about the Apex. The outdoor swimming area needs far more shade options and it would be nice if a health facility had healthy snacks and healthy frozen drinks. High fructose corn syrup and food dyes in the frozen drink are bad for anyone, especially kids. I like the gym it's nice, yet a bit small for the price - $79/month for our family and a huge joining fee! I can see why many people we meet are not members, yet it will be beneficial to have an indoor pool in the summer. The only problem is that it isn't too great for upper elementary swimmers- it gets quite boring fast. I plan to stay a member..for now. read more

Great gym, everything is brand new and super clean. I love the huge pool and that it has activities for the kids. I just signed up for the membership and excited to try some of the free classes. I wish all of the classes were free with a paid membership (like the gym I left for this one), or i wish that they would get a sauna. But the running track upstairs and free towels, numerous TVs, and equipment that monitor my progress across multiple machines is absolutely AMAZING!! Lost a star because the proce of membership is a bit more than most in the area without some of the same amenities. read more

Over priced for residents! We should be paying less than 200 a year for an annual pass! Grapevine rec center is the same as apex and it's $60 cheaper for non residents($440), than the residential annual fee for apex($500)! Grapevine $120 for residents Mckinney $500, are you kidding me??? Our tax dollars help pay for this then they screw us on annual fees. Frisco Rec is crazy too but still cheaper than Mckinney! My son and I have been frequenting this gym for close to 4 years now. On our visit today, we started warming up on the treadmills, as usual. We were approached by an elderly middle eastern staff member by the name of Abraham. He told us that my son was not ALLOWED to use any of the gym equipment due his age/size (not even knowing his age). We've never been told that but whatever. We moved upstairs to run around the track. after circling the track a few times, my son wanted to ride a stationary bike, like we usually do. We began, only to look up and see the same elderly staff member, Abraham (I'm fairly sure he was literally following us around), again walking towards us, shaking his head and waving his arms. He then asked us to leave the gym for not following his instructions. Today is the first time this has ever happened. Abraham ruined our morning and caused my son to cry on my shoulder for a good while, saying how much he hates this place now. It was such a negative experience that this will cause my entire 5-person family to cancel our memberships with APEX. Thanks Abraham. read more

I took my son to the outdoor pool a few weeks ago. The outdoor pool is nice but costly compared to other pools in the Frisco/McKinney/Allen area. The lazy river is WAY too strong and his feet and chest were tore up by the time we left. I believe the Frisco rec center outdoor pool is cheaper and three times the size! I doubt I go back. I would rather pay a few bucks at another pool. They need to lower the daily pass for the outdoor pool for residents. read more

I'm a senior. So, the annual pass is "only" $300. Which is quite a bit. But the facility has everything I want except organized volleyball games. They have gym classes of all sorts and pool classes that seemed to be geared to seniors such as myself. I find the staff overall to be quite friendly and the equipment is first rate. If the annual pass were a bout $100 cheaper I would be delighted as opposed to very happy. Oh, and do advise you bring your own towels if you are going swimming or showering here. read more

So far our experiences have been fine and most issues we've had I have assume are just growing pains that will eventually work themselves out. The facilities are very clean and nice. Lots of locker space. The front desk employees seem to not be very well trained. I have had to wait 5-15 minutes every time to scan in because the one computer set up for that is in use. I stood there waiting and not a single one of the 6 employees behind the desk even acknowledged me. That's frustrating but again, I assume they will work the kinks out as the employees get more comfortable. The under three child care room had only two adults and at least 20+ babies and toddlers when I went to pick up my 15 mo old at 9:45 am. The adults definitely looked like they were drowning in children. That's an issue that must be remedied. While I would hate to be turned away because they are full, I would be more angry that my child didn't have anyone to help when needed. They must have a cap for children to adult ratio. read more

We went as a family and my girls enjoyed it very much. Staff was friendly. We went for the indoor pool and it was great. It does have a strong smell of chlorine but you get used to it. The girls loved the slide. I wished that the slide was designed differently but it is what it is. read more

Very disappointed in this facility for a few reasons. We pay $700 for our "family membership." That is incredibly high for 1) Unfriendly staff that makes my children feel uncomfortable. 2) Changing policies without notice. We use this facility primarily for the use of the indoor basketball courts. My children have loved going with their buddies to play basketball games for the last two years. Without notice, they have changed the policy. Only half of the gym can now be used to play pick up games. The other half, used strictly for just shooting baskets. If you even try and go in for a layup with your buddy guarding you, you will be scolded by an employee. You are told you have to sign up for the five on five game. This game consists of all older, tall, and strong men. I have been twice recently just to observe. Once at 10 am on a weekend and also at 6pm on a weekday. Both times, the games consisted of all at least 16 year olds and above, many grown men. What 10 or 12 year old would not find this intimidating and unfair. I guess they'll just go shoot free throws?!! This is a FAMILY center. If you want it a men's gym, then please refund our money ASAP. Very disappointed in these choices. read more

I enrolled my entire family at the Apex when it first opened, even though it took over 2 hours to get enrolled and still had to return to get our ID's...another long wait. My son decided he wanted to celebrate his 7th birthday at Apex. I stopped in to reserve the room, not the birthday package, after almost an hour they could not figure out how to reserve the room. They told me that they'd give my information to a manager to reserve the room and I could just pay for it the day of the party. I received a nasty call a few weeks later to pay for the room. I explained to her my wait and what happened. She took my payment which was $200 and we ended our conversation. The week of the party another call regarding payment for the room! When I called back the person that answered again had no information and the conversation took almost 20 minutes to figure out a simple room rental. All of the front desk need to be re-education on customer service, the computer system and the offerings of the club. The time spend for processing simple paper work is ridiculous. I emailed the management about the enrollment process only to be met with empty reasoning. read more

This is the worst place you can you. You need to fill out like 3 different papers for a day pass. Thats it the worst idea somebody can have. I don't recommend going here, go to the Frisco Athletic Center. It is a great place where you can pay $10 do whatever wothout even filling out a waiver. The child daycare center is only for kids who are fairly self-sufficient. If this isn't your child, then don't take them. The attention paid to small children is minimal. Also, they have very little staff for the amount of children that are in there. I would get a call every 10-30 minutes that my child was crying. I would walk in there and no one would be holding her or trying to comfort her in order to get her to stop crying. She's a baby - to get her to stop crying, you must hold her. I've been a member at Lifetime since cancelling here and have had 0 calls that my child is crying because they play with her and show her attention while she's there. They also limit the amount of babies they take in at a time so that they are able to be with any of them when needed. Apex needs to take some clues from them. I understand that the Apex isn't of the same standard as Lifetime, but maybe they should try to strive to be that because they are losing people with small children along the way. Take look at your staff and see what they are doing with the children while they have them in their care. read more

It is very nice but costly. We paid the cash price for a one year family membership which was $700. That is hefty. Day passes are more expensive than what many families can afford. The cost is the major disappointment. I have a minor complaint about the outdoor pool. Unfortunately the pool chairs are very uncomfortable. read more

Our experience at the Apex center was a bad one and we won't be returning. We went to the ticket window outside the pool and were told you must go inside to buy tickets. Once inside the woman at the front desk asked if we had accounts and we told her we did not and we were new. She seemed annoyed that we didnt have an account and said, "Well you have two options, you can create one at the kiosk or you can stand here while I make one for you." Since she was obviously angry and having a bad day we said no problem and went to the kiosk. After creating account for each family member for around 15min at the kiosk, we were denied registration as a resident of Mckinney even though we have a Mckinney address. We were handed off to two other employees who were confused by our drivers licenses having a McKinney address but the computer saying we weren't residents. The final employee in a rude condescending tone finally told us that even though we have a Mckinney address and are zoned for MISD we are not McKinney residents since we only pay collin county and Mckinney school property taxes in our current neighborhood. Very frustrating to be told by employees that you don't live in the city you clearly live in. Guess we will just hang onto our money since we were going to purchase an annual pass if we had enjoyed the visit. read more

Had the chance to go here today and although the place looks nice the efficiency is ridiculous. I am a non resident but thought it looked like fun. I downloaded the waivers and still had to wait so long for them to process the information. You would think there would be a better way to have people fill out the information. Submitting them online in advance would be one way and much much faster. So, I grew tired of waiting and there was medical emergency as well while we were trying to get checked in, so we opted to leave. If you want to wait 30-45 minutes just to get processed go ahead. I would rather go to Plano and use their pools. Just have to have a guardian for the children but no signing endless waivers and waiting 30-45 minutes to get processed. read more

It's more of a dance class center rather than a gym. I like to go gym in group classes for proper gym/Core body workouts, but the group classes in apex center are especially the evening ones are dance classes. Most of their core body workout classes are in working hours which, i can't go as a working professional. Early morning classes are there but, also are too early in morning. I don't understand why they can have normal morning class at or in between 6 or 7am. Not everyone can go to 5am (that's insane time for me). In short, this gym is good someone who like to workout on machines, or like to learn dance moves. Group classes schedule in Apex center is totally messed up. read more

Had a great time with my grandchildren on Saturday with a day pass. I was checking it out to see if it would work for my husband and my self to swim daily in the winter months. The leisure pool was nice and we could work out and walks in the water. Than we were told that the pool was closed everyday from noon til 4pm when the kids get out of school. That would only leave the deep diving pool, but when we were there the water was so cold I wouldn't go in although some people were diving. I was told that both pools are kept at 82 degrees but one was fine and one was freezing. It seems like a nice place but stilling giving it a second thought about joining. read more

Place looks nice and clean but this is definitely made for big suburban families. The cost for a family membership with 10 kids (which includes free childcare) is the same as it is for two adults. I would think the cost burden of the family is a lot more extensive than that of two adults. Since there were kids all over the weight room, I question it's availability for adult use. There are very limited number of classes also, which is my preferred workout, along with weight training. If it had more to offer I might consider making the 20+ minute drive from my home in central Mckinney, but it's placement at the edge of town, lack of classes, and high fees for an adult couple - relative to what it offers, make me write this one off. Oh well, just another McKinney subsidy project for the well-to-do. read more

We just joined about two weeks ago. This is a great facility, very clean and well maintained. Lots of staff to help you And the equipment is in great condition.I see the reviews about not being a low income facility, however it is a good value for a family And there is a monthly payment option. I can appreciate the staff holding true to the rules as this will ensure the place stays in good shape. read more

My kids and I went here yesterday for the first time. The only thing negative I saw was the attitude of one lifeguard (indoor pool). He looked to be around 12 or 13 years old. He was yawning and looking at the life preserver in his lap or at the floor or walls, instead of watching the swimmers. I always watch my kids, but do depend on the lifeguards to be watching, as well. Please make sure the lifeguards really know their duties and care about doing their job. Thank you. read more

Review for gym. Great gym but too many people come in and hard to get on machines sometimes. Too many kids allowed on equipment that shouldn't be allowed. They don't have any knowledge of the equipment thinking they are toys to just play with. Running out of room with little space and too many members. read more

Nice facility but not a family friendly environment. I was asked to leave by Laura the manager on duty. I had my 9 month old in her carseat attached to her stroller next to me while I rode the bike. The daycare was closed. I was informed that she is a liability. Children 0-12 yrs old are not allowed on the floor, even with a parent. I don't understand why this facility does not allow children ages 10-12 in the playroom - they only allow children up to 9 years old. If I want to take a group class, do cardio/weights, my children age 0-12 cannot go with me nor can they be checked into the playroom. They are only allowed to go to the pool by themselves or the basketball courts by themselves while I work out. I don't allow my elementary school aged child to wander around anywhere by themselves where I cannot keep an eye on them - certainly not a pool area, even if there is a lifeguard on duty. If they are not allowed throughout the gym until age 13, then you should allow them into the playroom until they are old enough to be with their parents. Even the childcare policy at Lifetime Fitness goes up to children 12 years old. What is a parent to do? Do I leave my 9 month old or 8yr and 12 yr old in the pool or basketball court alone? This policy needs to be changed. This is not family friendly center. read more
