Here we go again...I broke my foot, leg and ankle in a bad fall. I'm healing by swimming at Apex during the hours of 12-3. I understand the "lack of attendance" bc THATS WHY I, and the other "3" people that go during this time, so we can get our therapy done, using the outside lanes with the ladders. We the TAXPAYERS paid for this facility, and we the TAXPAYERS expect it to remain open for public use. Victoria Leo who sits in the aquatic room needs to realize this is a PUBLIC FUNDED FACILITY, the competition pool needs to reopen for the "few patrons" that are in need of pool therapy during the 12-3 time slot. Child care is negligent. My three-year-old child was locked in a bathroom because he had had a "bathroom accident". The door was shut and employees were not anywhere near the door. Just left him screaming for 15 minutes!!!!!! They couldn't find me because the information about where I would be working out was on his sticker, which was LOCKED IN THR BATHROOM WITH HIM!!!!! By the time I got to him, he had no idea why he was locked in a bathroom all by himself. He was SHAKING and hysterically crying, snot everywhere, and so confused and scared! I am absolutely appalled that they could do this to a 3 year old child. He had absolutely no idea what was going on. What if there had been a fire? Would they just leave my child locked in that bathroom? What if he had fallen down? Would they just leave him by himself bleeding until they found me?! I have no confidence that Apex Center can take care of children after what I just saw. I will be reporting this to the state. Absolutely negligent! I would never recommend the Kid Care here. Absolutely appalling. He has not stopped crying and has snot in his hair, and in his eyebrows from being left in that bathroom scared and alone. He was shaking and screaming with snot falling to the floor --- that's how I found my baby! No workers near the door, no one checking on my 3 year old! I am appalled and my child was traumatized. Price too high for McKinney single seniors and not some classes that I'd like. Not as much of a fan as I've been for several years.

As others have stated, the facility itself is fine if you're looking for a gym or need a facility to workout in. Hardly world class but it's fine enough. Though it does get insanely busy after school and summers with teenagers. I can't speak to the pools as I never used them. However, Apex really failed me in the customer service category. If you ever need to work with someone to make adjustments to your account or have it 'frozen', good luck. Without getting into the gory details, long story short, I was given options to freeze my account, then when I came to unfreeze, was told it wasn't possible. Felt incredibly predatory and lacking for a community center with alot of shrugs from management and just pointing out 'that's policy' versus actually trying to help their members. read more

Wonderful place for working out family activities. Awesome place to come until you have back complications and need to cancel you membership because you can't walk. I called and they said I have to send and email or come in. I sent an email and was still getting charged for over 3 months. So I had to drive in, with my back still healing and against doctor's orders. So I drove in to cancel my membership. All I get is "we now have the ability to cancel online". I'm almost crawling out of the building to get to my car. Do you think I got asked if I needed any assistance from anyone. Nope!! I'm a disabled veteran and I won't ever come here again or tell anyone to come here. The only kind words I got from the front door staff was, "sorry for the confusion". There wasn't any confusion. Our family was looking for a pool day and landed at the Apex. The check in process was a little lengthy since we had never visited before, but once we got through that we really enjoyed ourselves. We went on a sunny Saturday, so it was fairly busy, but that didn't cause any issues. There were plenty of bathrooms that were clean, lots of lifeguards on duty, a couple of food options, we were allowed to bring in a wagon & cooler, and there's a lot of options for kids of all ages to play and swim. Indoor & outdoor pools both have rivers (they're not lazy though! They move quick) as well as splash pad areas for the little ones and bigger slides for the big kids. Side note you're not allowed floats, which makes sense for a big pool, so make sure you have another option for your little that can't swim, like life jackets or puddle jumpers. There are tons of chairs as well as a grassy area with cornhole. read more

I love the facility but...I don't understand people sitting on the machines watching videos or using a certain machine for 20 minutes at a time! Some of us are there to do a quick workout & having to wait due to above reasons is ridiculous! Where's the staff our tax dollars pay for? Can't they observe & keep the workouts moving??? read more

I go to the gym to work out with my buddy and I understand I didn't get my guest pass yet, but the first thing I ask the clerk up front is where the bathrooms are because I've been needing to pee and I take 2 steps and he tells me I need to scan. Then I proceed to tell him can I get a guest pass. He said, "okay wait", and tells a manger who was directly behind him, " he wants a guest pass but he was trying to sneak in". The manger he told just looked like a Karen, and the in the most Karen voice tells us we need to leave, my buddy is a member btw and told him that he couldn't stay either. I am beyond disgusted and outraged by the appalling behavior I witnessed at the Apex Centre. My daughter was on Snapchat when she saw a picture of a playroom employee sleeping on the job--a shocking display of irresponsibility and complete disregard for the standards expected at a facility meant for families and children. Apex is ok, and at a decent price for a family compared to a gym like Lifetime. Basic workout equipment is fine, but if you are looking for free weights it definitely lacking and the area is crowded. But if you are looking for machines , they have all the basics. The basketball gym is generally always packed with kids and is very lord of the flies, so if you think you are going to have a shoot around with small kids forget it. The Apex will also do bizarre things that only a city managed facility would do, like close the indoor pool for maintenance in the winter, instead of closing it in the summer when the outdoor pool is open, and randomly close the facility for staff training days like it is a school. Hours are also pretty short on the weekends. On the plus side everything is generally clean and the staff has been fine to deal with. read more

I drove 30 mins to this facility because I had a waiver for a day pass. Got together my protein shakes, hair ties, toiletries and any other items I may need just to get turned away. Due to their Negligence of updating their website, I was forced to drive all the way back home. I can't be in there because "I'm not a member" but their website ALLOWED me to get the waiver for a day pass! Website failed to mention that it's members only due to COVID. It's frustrating due to the fact that I wasted time and gas. Very inconvenient!!!! read more

My yearly membership; when I purchased it, your staff provided me with incorrect information leading me can't cancel the membership as promised. Then I was suggested freeze my account. My account should be unfrozen before it expires to extend the remaining nine months. Today at Apex, I was told I need to pay for 6 months of freeze fees, and they can only extend it for 3 months until August. Additionally, I have to pay the membership fee for the extended 3 months. In the meantime, I paid for 12 months. Furthermore, do I need to pay for 6 months of freezing fees, in addition to the 3 months for the extended 3 months membership fee? So, what is the purpose of freezing? My yearly membership fee is a one-time payment for 12 months. Freezing the account incurs a $10 monthly freeze fee, and when unfrozen, shouldn't my membership extend the unused 9 months? This is truly frustrating. If your policies are constantly changing, and decisions seem arbitrary, please refund my fees. read more

Review is for indoor pool only. I'm here today (Sunday 5/29) right at 11am with my two kids. We are not members, so we paid the $17 day pass, which is fair I suppose if I you consider all the amenities. We thought we'd be able to use the outdoor pool as well, but apparently we can't until noon, as it's just for members until then. No biggie. My daughters are 10 and 7 and the smaller one is 48 inches, right at the requirement for the slide. We've been through four shift changes of lifeguards and two allowed her to go and two didn't until I got a manager to show them she's fine. That's a bit frustrating, especially since when I asked one that let her go to tell the other, he said "Each lifeguard has their own rules." Um...no. I did like that the diving board is available for pretty much any kid. If they are under 6, you'll need to be near them, but other than that it's not rule heavy. The lifeguards are typical teen ones, but aren't as drunk on power as the ones at Old Settlers. You don't hear "WALK" screamed a thousand times. That being said, Old Settlers is cheaper (Duh). I have to admit....I think the price tag for this is ridiculous because a lot of people in the community can't afford it, and with it being something that should in theory be to the benefit of everyone, I think it's just a snobbish way of telling everyone on "the wrong side of 75" they aren't welcome. So yeah, I'd be remiss if I didn't at least mention that this has all the trappings of residential segregation. So from a purely humanitarian perspective, this reeks. But if you have cash, it's a great way to kill the time with the kids. read more

The service here is horrible, I came here at 8 in the morning because I saw on the website that the courts are open from 4:30 to 9. To my surprise when i arrived they had a camp going on and when i asked how long it would last the people working at the courts said it would take all day. I didn't believe that jackshit because they open the courts once a week so i asked the front desk and they said it opens 12 to 3 and resumes again then opens after 6. Nowhere on the website did it say this and when i came back at 12 the people working for the camp told me it would resume at 12:30. The facility is nice but the service is bad. read more

A few days ago I was invited to a party in the swimming pool. It impressed me how young and responsible the lifeguard were. Very well coordinated and focused. One of them was talking to the kids on a very polite yet funny tone and pointed at them why not to be running. He even talk to one of them in spanish, impressive. I hope Apex is paying well to this teenagers because it is hard to find this kind of workers. read more

My family and I love the Apex! The childcare rooms allow you the flexibility of dropping your kids off while you work out. The annual fee did not go up after the inaugural year and is great value for money. The facility is new, clean and has just about everything you could need for anybody looking to get a decent run, swim or workout in. The summer pool is well designed and they are adding cabanas for 2019. The slide and splash pads for the little ones keep them busy and are right next to the daybeds. There is also a kiddies pool that has is covered which is perfect to cool off on a hot day. There are classes everyday on everything from yoga to spin cycle so there is a decent choice for those who prefer group activities. If it was closer to $500/year, then it would have been a 5 in my opinion. read more

I have a membership and checked the website for times, it said "7am-7pm" on Saturdays. We showed up at 9:30am and my son went in the inside pool and a lifeguard came over and said he couldn't swim in the pool till 11am due to swim lessons being scheduled. There was absolutely no kids in the pool so the times listed on the website are deceptive. My son sat for thirty minutes staring at an empty pool. read more

Friendly enough staff, but they're outrageously expensive. I begged them to consider structuring their pricing so that my wife and I, both retired, don't have to pay as much just to use the walking track as a family of 12 who uses the pools or workout machines everyday. They were not interested in hearing or considering a recommendation at all. Here's the kicker...in our second month of an annual contract, we are moving. They refuse to prorate the last 10 months for a refund. The facility is decent enough, but like a lot of things around here...they have no interest in serving the customer or being fair. Summer is surely the busiest time of the year for you and yet you have the nastiest, surliest people you can find Manning the desk. There was a man working yesterday afternoon 7/19/2019 approx 2 pm that was working on some "problem" and instead of greeting the people that would stand in front of him thinking he was there to help he just said " go to a register where someone can help you" After I went thru the 30 minute process of extending our two hour cabana rental for another two hours they did not provide me with a receipt. I already watched a family get kicked out of the cabana next to us bc they didn't realize you had to rent them for $30/hr and you can appreciate we didn't want a pool incident by having someone suggest we didn't pay the $120 for the time we were there. I asked them to please write on my original receipt that we had in fact extended our time and it was paid for. He just said " oh I'm the one who will be walking around checking, you'll be fine" Well thanks, I guess. But you won't know the rest of my family so please write on the receipt or provide me with one so it can stay at the table. Having to go into the facility to rent a cabana and then having the staff not know how to rent a cabana takes a lot of patience to sit thru and then have to listen to the way they talk to members/nonmembers is very trying. If I'm not mistaken they really hate their jobs, don't need their jobs and have very poor management. 8/2/2019 Loading my car up this afternoon after swimming my oldest noticed a car next to us with a dog inside. It was 103 with heat index at the time and no one in the vicinity coming towards the car. I walked up with the ticket window and asked if they could do a pa and ask the owner to come back to the car and take care of their dog. They told me they couldn't do that, nor could they call up to the office and request that. I'm not sure how something run by the city can justify utilizing the fire dept vs just making an announcement on their pa. I'm thankful it had a good ending but it had nothing to do with apex and everything to do with fire station 3 coming out and getting the dog out of the car. read more

As a single parent I can say the Apex Center is overpriced for what it offers and its employees are inflexible regarding day passes. I brought my daughter here at the end of the day as she had been asking I take her here for awhile. Even though I was dressed in business attire and voiced no intention of going in the pool, the lady at the entrance was adamant that I pay $10 for the honor of watching my daughter swim in their outdoor pool. Their calculus is off if they think I will consider coming here regularly as it seems their goal is to extract the maximum amount of money from their potential customers. If I had multiple children I guess the math would have been in my favor with a family pass, but it was just me and her. It's a shame small families are punished in this way. read more

Nice and clean facility. Good equipment in workout area. Gets crowded during peak hours. For weight area, go btwn 10:30 - 3:30 if you can. Indoor swimming pool is nice and clean. Great for swimming laps. Haven't seen it overcrowded yet. Spin classes are fun. Really good workout. Some of the instructors are hit and miss. Look for classes by Elisabeth and Suze. read more

They never hire enough lifeguards and look cheap for what they charge for memberships and only have high school students on the weekends. The main feature I expected to be in use was the indoor play pool and come to find out they change their hours because of lack of staff. Won't be renewing next year. You'd think you could use the indoor pool anytime if you have kids but nope they barely have that open 2 days a week and will close it on the weekdays if they don't have the staff. Sad. read more

I really like the Apex center to swimming and working out I get the best of both worlds. I also like the workout classes. It's clean outdoor pool and you can bring your lunch and you can order a pizza. I have 2 pools in my community but I like the Apex center so we can meet friends and just a different pace. I have 3 boys ages 7, 9 and 15 They have lots of fun in the water from the lazy river to the slides. They also enjoy the pool basketball court. There are outdoor vending machines and Kona Ice Cart . We are enjoying our summer days here. We paid for the yearly membership it is costly but still $200 less than the frisco center. I think the price is fine not great and also not horrible. read more

I brought my son and his friend to meet there coach to play basketball. Very nice facility, but to play on the court for 1 hr they both paid 12$ each and then when I walked down to watch them which was maybe 25 feet away within seeing distance from the desk, no turns, I was told I had to go back and pay to stand there. I was escorted back!! I am not in exercise gear at all, there is no misunderstanding that I am merely standing and watching, in no way blocking or hindering anyone. A woman from the front desk came to me and asked me to come back and pay 12$ to stand and watch my son play. I understand that there are waivers, but it's absolutely crazy to make someone pay to stand outside and simply watch a game for in reality at that moment 39 mins. I was told by the front staff, it's for a all day pass.... they can go to the pool when it opens. I explained it is only to practice basketball, that's it. For 1 hour. Not very understanding or considerate in the least. I don't usually go to the lengths to say something, but give me a visitor badge or something to merely stand for 40 mins and leave. Where is just human consideration/kindness for a giant facility to let 1 person that is not going to do anything, stand for 40 mins. Just left a very bad taste in my mouth and will avoid this place now always. read more

This review is for the indoor pool only. There is enough chlorine in the pool to literally send someone to the ER. The teenagers running the place seriously need a pool school lesson. I understand the need for sanity but no need to bleach my swimwear or give both my kids allergy when they were wearing googles the entire time. To the lifeguard watching the diving board when my 5 year old decided he didn't want to jump unless he could wear his googles...karma is a bitch. I'm happy you commented to me that he shouldn't try unless he could do it. He can do it. He was just annoyed about not being able to wear his goggles because there is so much chlorine. I'm even more thrilled that as you were switching shifts my son decided to cannon ball soaking you. You sir are a DB and do not need to be around children. The slide is super fun but definitely not well engineered. My son is all scraped up. I rode once and the cuts I got were enough for me. The side is not smooth and not well engineered. When you lie down you can feel every crevice. Not cool. The setup is great and it's a good way to wear the kids out but they definitely need to iron out a few things. Review for outdoor pool only. I brought my kids, 8 & 5, to try out the outdoor pool and slides. They had a great time and it wasn't overly crowded. We've tried the others (Frisco, Allen, etc) and can't say they want to go to specific one. I know here we had no issues going between the slides, pools, and lazy river. There were plenty of lifeguards and they were good at enforcing the rules. I would go again! read more

I feel very disappointed they way I was treaded I had a monthly membership a while back and had to cancel due to personal reasons ( had to move due to ex harassing me) but anyways I called and cancel.. I went through hard times had back surgery after that... went and going through a bad depression so decided to open the membership again back in Jan 2022 and even do I opened it in Jan due to my really bad depression didn't start going until now.. when I was approached in a really rude embarrassing way telling me that I shouldn't even be working out because I had a collections balance ( that I was not aware off ) asking for my DL because she thought I didn't live in McKinney thankfully I had a pic on my phone proving that I sure lived in McKinney keep in mind That I was paying it since Jan not missing a payment I get email today telling me they canceled my membership Very disappointed and just feeling like they could've had a better approach . Just trying to feel better and you bump to a business that takes your money and treats like crap :( read more
