I've tried lots of the items here. Some are better than others: Here is my summary so far: (it's hard to remember the Georgian names so I will describe them instead) Small triangle pastry stuffed with salty cheese-delicious Massively large half moon pastry stuffed with soft cheese and hard-boiled egg: in concept it's great but the cheese was way too gooey. I did not go for this Flat pastry with meat - meh Carrot salad: grated carrots with walnuts and other spices-pretty good Mushroom salad - way too much mayonnaise Vinegarette salad- delicious Chicken cutlet patties: delicious Kharcho soup-hearty and delicious Sweet pastries: the walnut cookies are delicious. The raisin cookies: raisins get a weird taste when they are baked that long. Since I am curious about trying new foods and I am not Georgian I always ask the lady behind the counter about the foods she has that day. She frequently appears frustrated with me and reluctant to describe the dishes. This makes me regret shopping there. For that I deduct 1 Star

Georgian food may be my new favorite- why- it is s soooo good. Apani is right on Sheepshead Bay Road, next to the subway. The have the famous Khachapuri bread, which is insane if you've never tried it. The breads plain or with cheese or meat or bacon go perfectly with oily dips. I went with a hot bread out of the oven with meat. Russian potato salad and an eggplant dip with string beans- total- $7 Now you don't see the oven in the front like Georgian Bread Bakery, but the breads look just as good. The dips while quite good- the eggplant dip had canned, string beans, but still tasty. Want to try the cheese and bacon bread next time.

It might well be selective attention, but it appears to me that the number of bakeries in Sheepshead Bay, Brighton Beach, and Midwood serving Georgian breads grows every few months. Apani is a worthy recent addition to those - I haven't seen a Georgian bakery in the city make better use of their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/ApaniBrooklyn). They have an extensive selection of Khachapuri, and are perhaps the only Georgian bakery offering bacon as a filling, even naming their shop after the pastry dough version of the Khachapuri. They also have a yeast dough version with pork and onions: Kubdari. I can't say that I'm a fan of their Imeruli that seems buttered to resemble a pizza (and expand the market to those unfamiliar with the charms of Georgian cheese breads), and my ambivalence is mainly a result of the heavier cheese filling inside (I doubt that it was the traditional, Sulguni). But, I have enjoyed the Megruli (w/double cheese) and the Penovani (pastry dough with cheese). The latter being my favorite item on their menu, as the many folds of thin, buttery pastry serve as an excellent vehicle to showcase the cheese. There are a host of other items on the menu for fans of Georgian food, including the popular salads: Badrijani (eggplant with walnut), Pkhali (spinach with walnut), Lobio (red beans and onion stew), along with the soupy dumplings (Khinkali), Chicken Satsivi (with walnut sauce), Chakhokhbili (chicken stew with onion, tomatoes). Service has been courteous and helpful - with the Ukrainian server even insisting that I carry the box of Khachapuri flat so as not to cause the cheese bread to lose its shape and become a crumpled mess. Had it not been for the heavier cheese, that warning would have been redundant, for I would otherwise polish off the bread between the shop and the subway station (maybe 40 steps away).

Another BS spot pointed out by time out magazine a hole in the wall that serves a few Georgian food items with no menu kachapuri tasted like it was microwaved, hot in the outside cold cheese on inside. Threw it out. Went to Jimmy's hero down the block. WIGB? No

Try their KHINKALI and KHACHAPURI (from the other side of the menu)

On an unusually warm day in March, they set up the classy outdoor seating. I asked the server for recommendations - the menu is great for sharing and trying lots of different dishes, but I didn't want to overwhelm myself with too many calories. She was a gem and suggested: Eggplant Pkhali - I really love this vegan dip of eggplant, walnuts, roasted onion, garlic, coriander, pomegranate molasses, cilantro and pomegranate. It comes with fresh bread, that is crunchy outside and pillowy soft inside. It's perfection, refreshing, toothsome, and vegan! Khinkali - beef and pork soup dumplings were well folded, savory, and soupy on the inside. Red currant mocktails - pretty and refreshing! They also have an extensive wine, beer, and cocktail menu. I have also been here for lunch and had a number of other dips and salads and loved what I got. Chama Mama is great for a date or friends. I believe they will rent out the full restaurant for events. The vibe feels upscale yet simple, and everything is delicious. Prices are in the teens for appetizers and $30+ per entree. Recommend.

The menu sounded enticing and I'd recalled walking by previously and liking the aesthetic, so headed over for a late lunch one afternoon. At $29, the Taste of Georgia sounded grand--boasting an array of Georgian style veggies, smoked cheese and bread. In reality, it was a modest bowl packed with a scoop each of dip, two freshly baked fluffy rolls and a few shreds of smoked cheese. To my own fault, relying on limited experience with Georgian cuisine, I had somehow envisioned more of a cheeseboat as the bread and cheese surrounded by separate small dishes of vegetables (i.e. roasted beets, sautéed spinach, etc) so was a bit underwhelmed when a bowl with the likes of beet and spinach dips topped with two rolls arrived. While, I don't think the price reflects the dish, but rather is a reality of the current economy, the flavors were harmonious and I found the beet and mushroom to be the most enjoyable. Ordered the mushroom soup dumplings as well, which I found appropriately priced at $13. I appreciated that the server asked if I'd had them before then gave me a quick demo on how to eat them. It was a nice, hospitable touch. The dumplings were delicious with an incredibly thick dough, seasoned filling and cilantro heavy. I found them comforting (and sleep inducing). I ordered more bread for the remaining dip in the taste of Georgia. The second batch of bread was noticeably burnt, hard and not the fluffy, fresh kind I'd received with the initial dish. There was an additional $3 charge for this burnt batch which felt odd. All in all, I am still somewhat curious to try their other offerings and perhaps Georgian wine. But, if I do return it will be for the mushroom soup dumplings.

The cheeseboat is perfect for one person, but it can get a bit heavy from all the cheese. My favorite one was either the leek or chicken cheeseboat, the leek was so flavorful and shined in the cheeseboat. In the last few weeks, I have been to three Georgian restaurants, and this one may be the antithesis to everything I have tried up to this point. Because this restaurant is in Williamsburg, expect some hipster flair with some great food. Fortunately, Cheeseboat delivers on both fronts. This is the restaurant that introduced me to Khinkali, or Georgian soup dumplings. Six to a plate, these are outrageously, sinfully, delicious. Not terribly hot, but have terrific flavor that are not filling at all. Everybody should order these when they come here. The Shkmeruli is terrific as well. Full of flavor, amazing spice, the chicken is moist and juicy. I easily butchered this because I did not want to leave any meat on the bone. Unfortunately, the bread it comes with is a bit salty for my liking, but the chicken is the star, and that is why it can be recommended. Of course, you know what is coming next. I have been on the hunt for Khachapuri since I cannot get enough of this bread now. Everything I said previously I rescind (kidding), but seriously. This is dynamic. It is hot and stays hot. So much cheesy flavor and full of deliciousness I could not stop eating it. It is good for one person. This is not to be shared. I would like to take a moment to recognize my server, Liza, now. Pretty, exuberant, full of joy and confidence, with an intelligent aura around her, I think I fell in love with her each time she passed my table. Sonny from the film, "A Bronx Tale" once said every man meets three great women in their lifetime. Sometimes they come all once, sometimes they come around every 10 years. She is definitely someone who is going to make someone very happy one day. It was a joy to have her serve me. How often have I been giving out five star reviews lately? A lot, I know. However, you deserve the truth, and this restaurant does not tell a lie. Liza and all, this is the five star experience.

Luckily I was able to get a reservation ahead of time because the place was packed that night! I'm not too familiar with Georgian food, but many of the dishes on the menu looked so good.
