Have you ever gone some place and felt totally transported to another place in time? That is exactly how I felt today. The is the one of the coolest art galleries I have ever been to. A05 gallery features work from a variety of artists in so many mediums. Dr. Seuss collection is one of their consistently highlighted pieces. In addition, they also have a Disney section. The key thing I like most about this art gallery is the uniqueness of the pieces - from African inspired pieces to Austin-centric pieces. There are works of art portrait-like to many items that are abstract, my personal favorite pieces of art. Today, I wanted to see if they had any lacquered pieces. The ones on display were of Marilyn Monroe and Madonna. Not sure I want to view these ladies every day... Smile. It was great to see Todd again, the manager of the store. He reminded me that they were open 7 days a week and that they had more pieces online. Todd is always so pleasant to talk to. Another joyful aspect of visiting A05 gallery is that you do not have any high-pressure salespeople putting you in a chokehold trying to sell you something. I had no idea this place existed until Shana found it. We don't come to the Arboretum shopping area much but we have been and never noticed this place before, it has some amazing art for display and sale. From big names to local talent it has something for everyone. They have art on skateboards, movie frames, artwork on Cap Metro bus tickets, a whole section of cool artwork from Dr. Seuss stories. The guy behind the counter was very nice and full of helpful info without being pushy or coming on strong. There are so many things to see here and they used the space very well. We ended up picking up a few things, the owner also has viewing parties and events you can go too. Being artwork some of the pieces can be pricey but they have different types and sizes of artwork to fit most budgets. It was a hidden gem and if you are an art lover or an artist I suggest taking a look. read more

Hey it's an art gallery! Paintings and art work are available for sale with prices listed next to the artwork. Most items are above $2k, but there are a few items in the $300-$500 range. The gallery houses work from a variety of artists, in a variety of styles. On July 13, there was a Dr. Seuss section that was pretty neat. That section has Dr. Seuss inspired works, as well as certified reproduction prints of the artwork in Dr. Seuss books. Pretty neat. They also have a Disney section. Staff were very welcoming. Name of the game is to just browse and look around, and if you want to buy something, go find one of them and they'll help you out. read more

Love this place. Love the people here. An ever changing plethora of art from all genres. What drew me in was the abundantly unique collection of Dr. Seuss. I now own SIX! And proud of it. Great people! Camille the owner is very nice. Todd and Cassidy will make you feel at home. They do great custom framing as well. Stop in and say you read Timmy's Yelp. Kind of weirded out that we hadn't found this place before now. Call me old fashopned, but the Dr. Seuss collection is to die for There are several other funky little exhibits that are all different and all sparked a little excitement in my brain. Very clean, very friendly, music and ambiance were both great. They have little prints to sell of the art at a reasonable price. As soon as we left we were already trying to figure out when we would visit again to make a couple print purchases and add some personality to the walls of our home. Awesome place. The taxidermy portion was fascinating and terrifying for the kiddos. You can walk through here in under 20 minutes. In a strip mall. Everyone had a face mask on, the staff were very friendly and informative about the artwork. They had a lot of cool original art pieces as well as some replicas. Everyone needs to go to this art studio! Right now until August there is a Disney Art Exhibition and it is nothing short of AMAZING! There is is also a large Dr. Seuss area. Most of the art pieces are copies and not originals, but that just makes them more affordable for purchasing. Even though they are not originals it doesn't make them any less beautiful. Some of the pieces in there are absolutely breathtaking. The owner of the studio is so friendly and welcoming. We went last week with my parents and my mom talked to him for half an hour. I went back on Sunday and there were all new pieces! It's great to know when a piece sales there isn't an empty space but a new piece to see! I hope to go one more time before August! read more

This review is for the custom framing department-specifically the young woman with the black glasses-you know who you are. I walked in and admired the art first and then went to the back for custom framing info. There was a couple women speaking to one another and I patiently waiting in what I assumed to be a line to inquire about pricing (waited about 15 mins or so). They were closing so I decided to go to the front and inquire who I could talk to later about framing. I was told I could speak with the woman who was actually not a customer but the framer! I kindly went up to ask for assistance and was told in a very snarky attitude by the framer "Actually...we are closed and you need to make an appointment. I am trying to go home". The other woman tried to recover for her co-worker's attitude and gave me the hours they would be open tomorrow with a smile and a thank you. Too bad for the extremely poor customer service from the framer. Could have been a very good customer with many pieces for local shows. I kind of felt like Julia Roberts shopping for a fancy dress in Pretty Woman that day.... read more

I really enjoyed wandering around ART on 5th and discovering the Dr. Seuss exhibit, Dali sketches and many more younger artists. The pieces in the Dr. Seuss exhibit aren't originals - they were mostly reproductions based on an original print or drawing. They had some great pieces that aren't in any of his books. I really enjoyed the one that was inspired by Theodore Geisel's love for Venice. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area! read more

I've had at least a couple hundred things professionally framed in my lifetime - whether personal or for projects - but my experience with Art on 5th TRANSFORMED the way I feel about frames altogether. Frames were mostly expensive ways to get the art I loved onto walls. And I had seen and purchased frames that were gorgeous in and of themselves. That about sums up my past opinions on the topic. But Clare at Art on 5th kept pulling tricks out of her sleeve - one enhancement layered upon another enhancement and so on - and the final works literally took my breath away. I keep running downstairs to look at them and they amaze me all over again. Joe was genuine, personable and helpful in an Austin kind of way - you know what I mean? What a neat little gem. Located in the same shopping center as Kirby Lane Cafe, Art of 5th sits in an unassuming storefront so it can be easy to miss. They house some very interesting pieces crated by local artists; however, the proverbial icing for me was the "largest Dr. Suess collection in the entire country!" For kids and adults alike truly a must see for locals and visitors alike. The proprietor and staff are all really friendly and knowledgeable. Don't hesitate to ask a question, or tow, or ten. So - I've been marinating for a while about whether I should write this review or not. This review has absolutely nothing to do with the gallery itself (amazing pieces, definitely worth checking out if you're an art lover like I am). But I am a designer, and have been a creative my entire life and I love and appreciate beautiful art and custom framing, as I have many pieces of my own that I cherish and hang on my walls and they bring me such joy. My pieces vary in prices, anything from $80 to upwards of $1000 (beautiful art can have any price tag) and so I came in here to bring in my newest piece to be custom framed. I am no stranger to custom framing, I've gotten things framed in San Antonio many times and New York City countless times as I have lived there for the past 10 years. I walked in here with a 14x11 piece of art (a screenprint to be exact) and the woman helping me with custom framing brought out many options and styles etc etc (it actually took like 45 minutes) and not once did she ever mention price. As I said, like 45 minutes later, she goes to tally up the cost and she said "That will be $698.98" and my jaw about dropped to the floor. $700 dollars to frame a 14x11 screenprint?!?!?! Are you serious?! I lived in Manhattan for 10 years and have framed art in sizes 18x24 and 24x30 and NEVER have I EVER been charged $700 for it. In a way, I'm flattered she thought I looked as though I would be WILLING to pay $700 for my framing, but to no ones dismay, they did not get my business. If you are looking to pay that kind of money for your custom framing, then by all means this is your place to go - but if you want more affordable and REASONABLE prices, look elsewhere. Otherwise, they will rob you. And if you're wanting to sucker some people into those outrageous prices, at least mention throughout the session like, "this is beautiful, but its silk so it's going to be much more expensive ..." read more

Custom framing can be a challenge in Austin. Pricing, quality, staff knowledge, and time frames vary greatly from shop to shop. I am so glad I chose Art on 5th to frame a piece my cousin painted for me. The selection of frames and mats make it easy to play around with different ideas. I'm so glad I listened to their suggestions. I was gonna go for something simple (and boring), but was talked into a bluish gray frame that looks great with the water color and walls in my bathroom. I dropped it off right before thanksgiving, but wasn't able to pick it up until the first week in January. When I picked up my painting I was told they upgraded the glass to acrylic to better protect against bathroom humidity. One i was shocked they knew where I planned to hang it, and cared enough to do the upgrade for free. I am so impressed that I don't see myself using anyone else in the future. Their prices are higher than most places, but are fair for the quality and customer service you receive. Also, they have original Dr. Seuss artwork in their gallery. We live really close and I'm always in that parking lot, either at Torchy's or the UPS store or Half Price Books. I have seen the sign and always wanted to go in, but it seems I am always in a hurry. I bet you're in the same boat. Well I encourage you to check this place out! Everyone needs some amazing art in their lives and yes...you have the time! ;) We stopped by after eating lunch out somewhere. The ladies at the desk near the front were very helpful, letting us know what exhibits were there and gave us some information on them. I went ahead and signed the guest book (more on that later). We walked the perimeter and experienced creative works on Star Wars, some dark, almost Masahiro Ito-esque works, Disney art, amazing landscapes and rare Dr. Suess pieces. Then wove our way into the middle - a most colorful exhibit on superheroes done by a range of artists. The whole experience didn't take long - you set your own pace, but when I left I was just inspired and my whole day took on a new light (rose-colored glasses, if you will). Due to signing up on the mailing list, I now receive emails for new exhibits, book readings or 'meet the artist' receptions. We went to one recently and it was great to chat with the artist while sipping on sangria and seeing what other new pieces they had up. Highly recommend! read more

Art was very eclectic. Wow! I was really excited to see the exhibits in this gallery. They currently have a Dr. Seuss exhibit which is really nice. I really liked the William Hall, Isabelle Dupuy and Lena Sotskova exhibits. There are some more modern things like Henson, Disney and Marvel pieces as well. The gallery is free to enter but there are also prints of works for sale. Parking is in a strip mall so it's pretty easy. Definitely worth a visit. read more

I went to Art on 5th to see a Salvador Dali exhibit during Memorial Day weekend. It was an art gallery in the middle of a strip mall and it struck me as odd. The contents were great though! There was an exhibit of Salvador Dali and permanent section of Dr. Seuss art which I absolutely loved. Also, I love vintage advertising posters and they did have a few good ones. If you get a chance to see any of this I highly recommend it. I'm still considering one of the posters I saw. Their custom frame shop had a very nice selection as well. Happy shopping! read more

update: I ended up going back to Art on 5th and they helped me get things figured out (including a kind discount). while I'm still upset that it seemed to take me writing a somewhat negative Yelp! review to get any sort of real customer service, I'm sure that my experience was a one-of, and you shouldn't be concerned about taking your pieces here to get framed. below is my original review. I'm leaving the it up for posterity's sake. "this review isn't really about the craftsmanship of Art on 5th. you can read plenty of the other reviews here to recognize that this place takes framing seriously, and does a damn good job of making your art look impeccable. my 2 star review is directly related to my first, and maybe only, experience with the place. I went in earlier this year to get a piece framed. I really appreciated the wide selection, the kindness of the ladies helping me, and the overall feel of the place. I could tell my piece was in good hands, and I looked forward to getting it back and hung on my wall. fast forward a couple weeks and I get a call telling me my piece is ready. awesome! distance/transportation is kind of an issue, but I figured it out and picked up my piece and took it home. a few days later, after looking at it, I felt like something wasn't right. I ended up realizing that the frame wasn't actually the frame I had selected. I ended up consulting with a friend of mine who had helped me pick out the frame and he concurred, and we made plans to take the piece back a week later. on my third trip to Ao5, I bring in my piece and we get to talking. initially the assistants seem a little stand offish, suggesting that the frame actually *is* the right frame, and I'm just confused. I ask to see the frame I selected and, lo and behold, it's not the same as the one currently surrounding my piece. but there's a problem. my frame actually *is* the same product number as the frame I originally selected. I talk with the assistants a little bit and find out that, sometimes, the details of the frame selections change, and the suppliers don't inform the gallery. it's a little strange, but I guess it makes sense. they say it only happens, maybe, once or twice a year, so maybe I just got unlucky. the assistants then try to tell me that the frame that's on my piece actually looks nicer than the one I originally selected. as any art owner knows, I had my heart set on a particular look, and this frame just wasn't cutting it. I asked what options I had available to me, and the assistants informed me that I get a straight one for one exchange. I ask them if there's anything they can do because of the inconvenience of the matter, and they consult with their manager, and they can't. awesome. don't get me wrong: I wasn't asking for a huge upgrade, but I'd like to have a little bit of leeway in choosing a new frame when the one I had my heart set on turned out to be unavailable to me, especially because, for all intents and purposes, I'm kind of locked into this store at this point. I'm not some big spender, getting a 1500$ frame, so every dollar counts, and at this point I've thrown down a couple hundred bucks, and have been severely inconvenienced. the worst part about this experience is that the store explicitly states that this isn't their fault. instead, it's the suppliers fault. what good does that do me, as a customer? 'cause from my point of view, it looks like you guys knew that this has happened before, but didn't take necessary precautions to prevent the mishap from occurring. you either didn't compare the frame materials that were sent to you with the sample you have out on the floor, or you did and couldn't notice that one of them wasn't painted and the other one was. neither of these things speaks well of you. so, again, to wrap it up: the quality of the framework was great. the customer service was pretty bad. maybe I just lucked out and got shafted on my first time here, or maybe this happens more than they'd like to admit but they convince the recipients of different frames that it looks "better." who knows." read more

Interesting art, but although I am a huge fan of Dr. Seuss, it's not something I'd hang on my wall. Add the $4000 price tag and I there is no way I will be hanging it on my wall. I wish I had liked this place more, but really, there was just not much. Half of it was Dr. Seuss. A quarter of it was very expensive movie posters and the remainder is what I think of as art. There were some very interested 3-D art created with oil paints. Those were impressive. Unfortunately, they were also in the $4000 range. I can say that of all I saw, they were more deserving of the price tag than other pieces there. I think I would have liked this place more if it was somewhere more interesting then a strip center and if the pieces were priced at a more reasonable level, or interesting enough to deserve the high cost. Art galleries are the new mall to me. Window shopping mostly. I walked in and was immediately greeted although I'm sure I didn't look like the type of person that would be walking out of there with multiple purchases (or frankly, even one) anytime soon. The entire staff was really warm and courteous. I spent a good amount of time wandering in circles. The space isn't too small or large, but it is definitely packed full of artwork. I especially enjoyed pieces by Alexandre Zerbe and Cynthia Chartier. The Dr. Seuss exhibit was larger than I expected. I recommend signing up for their emails which are monthly and feature fun events like Girls Nights and special gallery events. read more

Disclosure: the owner of this gallery is a client of mine. But don't let that fool you...this is no kiss-ass review. I felt compelled to write Art on 5th up because I was blown away when I visited the gallery in person. I think it's hard to get a sense for the quality of the artists' work unless you tour the space personally and experience the artwork for yourself. There are many different types of artists represented here. I would say overall I would be psyched to own 40% of what I saw hanging a couple weeks ago (in particular, works by Paul Stankiewicz, and Cynthia Chartier's "Winning Spirit" series) ...wouldn't hesitate to recommend as much as 75% of what I saw to interested clients. Art's a very personal thing but I think virtually anyone would find something to respond to here. If you are in the market for art, I highly recommend dropping by. The photos online just can't possibly do the art justice. There is also an entire room devoted to Dr. Seuss prints, which is always fun to check out. If you are forced to tote your kids along (as I often am), that certainly keeps them visually engaged. And their frame shop is not to be believed. I've personally never seen so many options under one roof before, and I know Joe is pretty persnickety when it comes to quality--so you know you're in good hands here. So sure, I might be biased toward a client, but the point is that you have to get in there to see for yourself. read more

I had wanted to go in here for a long time when they were located downtown but I never did, so when they moved right by my house AND had a Dr. Seuss exhibit I had to go in. The staff is super friendly, and helpful with answering questions. The staff alone would make me come back to this place. The Dr. Seuss exhibit was mind-blowing, there were so many prints and all were custom framed on-site. Now I am not an art connoisseur by any stretch of the imagination but the quality of these frames was obvious. This exhibit has ended but due to the quality I will make another visit once they have another exhibit up. They also had a ton of original run movie posters that were fun to thumb through, these are not the reprints like you will find at Half Priced Books or the similar these are the rare originals that hung in theaters. If you need fancy framing or like to look at interesting art I would highly recommend checking out (or in) Art on 5th. read more

The staff was so friendly, making sure we felt welcome without pressuring us to purchase anything. The space is small, but crammed full of art arranged in a manner that's easy to peruse efficiently. Other than the Dr. Seuss work (which was awesome!), the gallery contained tons of other artist's work as well. Great personnel, great service - they are expert framers and will go the extra steps it takes to really do things right. We have bought several exquisite works here, and they are among our favorites. It is laid out nicely for browsing a wide variety of art and artists - local and renowned. The staff is very friendly. The thing I liked the best is that, just like in a museum, the art is well-labeled. Who, what, when, and how. I learned alot and thoroughly enjoyed my time. I first found this place while looking for framing options for some artwork my sister got me. It was artwork on cloth, so I wanted a place that could give me a variety of options. Art on 5th is in a strip nearby that I've been to multiple times, but somehow never noticed? I walked in and was immediately taken to the back and walked through a number of different options, which I really appreciated as a novice. I ended up deciding to keep it simple and have them stretch it for me and not go for an actual frame (yet!) I had the piece up and on my wall within a couple of weeks, and it looks great :) I got the piece back within the time quoted, and they allow you to pay ahead, pay upon receipt or pay half when dropping off and the remainder upon receipt. I didn't really look around the actual gallery when I brought in my own piece. But I saw something in the paper about Gabe Leonard's Desperados show and I decided to head back with my guy. So, so, so cool! Leonard has some really amazing oil paintings, that would be on my bucket list if I won the lotto. We also wandered through the Dr. Seuss collection, some mixed-media pieces, and some 3-D art which was pretty trippy. This is a great place to get some quality (albeit $$$) framing done, as well as a cute gallery showing some great works of art. I'll definitely be back here. read more

Joe at Art on 5th did an amazing job! I needed 2 very large pieces (4x5') framed and turned around in a week, and he did it. He was extremely helpful and my artwork came out looking wonderful.
