Bad business in MD: Antwerpen Auto World. (long post below) Tina and I are shopping for a second car, and we came across this one, about an hour north of us. https://www.cars.com/vehicledeta.../detail/683327253/overview/ Our daughter Ava and I made the drive up after dropping Tina off at work this morning, and checked the car out. Tina contacted the dealer last night, and they informed her the car is available and has been on the lot for 44 days. Aside from some minor mechanical issues that could be easily haggled, I was very satisfied with the car. Prior to going, Tina and I had secured our own financing and I was ready to hand over the check to the dealer when they came back with something outrageous: They wanted to add 25% to the price of the car for some fees, NOT INCLUDING Tax, Title and License. Now, I may not be the brightest guy, but this just seems like bad business. Here's how the breakdown went: Car listed at $10,999, haggled to $10,500 plus new tires due to dry rot on all 4 tires (inspected and agreed with from their own service tech). The additions after we sat down: $1,500 for Maryland State Inspection $495 for reconditioning $395 for freight Those prices are beyond exorbitant, and should already be included in their ad and the sticker price like every other truth-in-advertising dealer, as I've highlighted in a screenshot below. MD state inspection is $90-100, Tina and I had just gone through with this after transferring our car and motorcycle from California. Reconditioning, also known as detailing the car, runs $100-200 for a good quality detailer. Freight? I was told it was purchased from a local auction, and our car would have been $1,000 to ship from CA to MD if I didn't drive it. I doubt it's $395 to move the vehicle a single digit number of miles. Adding up all these not-advertised costs (I was informed by the salesperson that this was all listed as additional on the ad, again see the screenshot below, it's not) comes out to $2,390 on top of the $10,500 the car is listed at. Some basic math (2390 / 10500) gives us an additional cost of 22.7% over list price, again NOT including TTL (about another $800, 6% tax + ~$150 for title and license). Finally, take a look at the areas I've put a red box around in the image. It very clearly states at the bottom: "The price you see-IS THE PRICE YOU PAY!!!!!" This is simply not the case, and I advise any car shoppers in the Baltimore area to be wary of shady business practices like this from Antwerpen Auto World. read more

If I could give less than a one star I would. I purchased a 2012 Chevy Express van from these crooks that was listed online for $15,000 only to have them, with the help of Mark K, gouge me with an additional $1,800 "reconditioning fee" at the very end of the transaction. I can only say, I wish I would have read more of the negative reviews for these people before going into their show room. I'd never recommend them to anyone. I've come across plenty of salesmen in my day, but never as shady as the ones at this Antwerpen. As others have mentioned in previous reviews- avoid at all cost!! Today I sat in the dealership for hours test driving cars and completing paperwork. When the time came to sign everything I noticed that the price on paper didn't not reflect the listed price I had agreed to. In fact, the price was over $4,000 more! Their "finance" manager told me that they charge a $495 refinishing fee, $300 dealership processing fee and a $1495 inspection fee. As exorbitant as these fees are, however, they still didn't add up to the $4,000 I was being charged. Nobody in the dealership could explain where the extra money had come from. They eventually decided that it was a typo on the contract and agreed to start over. On the second contract they kept the high cost of the car and lowered the payment by increasing the term. Had I been young and dumb or eager to purchase I would've been taken advantage of, stuck paying $4,000 more than I bargained for. Sleezy salesmen are the worse. These people are crooks. read more

There's really no need to review it beyond that their out-the-door price was $3,300 higher than the price listed on the site, before considering any trade-in or any other factors. Just price and fees. $3,300 higher. Throw in the nearly $3,000 dollars negative equity they invented to tack on and I had to keep a straight face as they offered me a $6,300 higher price than on the website. Dishonest at best. I'd recommend avoiding it. I doubt you needed to read past that, but here's a bit more: they also run the typical incompetent salesman replaced by friendly, capable, sales manager switcharoo to establish trust ("thank God, THIS guy is here now"). They run the "four square" payment-as-opposed-to-price sheet trick. It's pretty much the stereotypical negative dealership experience. Pass. read more

I bought a 2013 Chrysler 300c here and traded in my 2009 Charger. 1. They would not budge on the price of the 300 2. They gave me less then what Carmax would for my charger. 3. They gave me a great monthly rate for the new car, only to find out weeks later that they fudged the paperwork to change the loan from 72 months to 75 to lower the monthly payments. 4. The car broke down a week after I bought it and they told me to go to Dodge. 5. They made me pay the inspection fee of the new car which should have been paid by the dealer when they got the car, not recover money from me. They already made thousands from me for the price I paid. My car is currently sitting in Chrysler service for three weeks now for repairs. I'm not gonna say I bought a lemon, you can answer that yourself. I'm still covered by Chrysler warranty but the car has been in and out of service ever since I bought it. 400 more miles and I'm on my own. read more

This dealership is a joke. If you see a low price online, just know they will not honor it. I tried to buy a 2008 BMW M6 for two weeks only to never get a response. I was told multiple times they are SO BUSY (literally in CAPS). I was a cash buyer, looking to pay the online price but then was sold on thousands upon thousands in dealer fees. The icing on the cake was this response I received from Mike Appleby, the GM of the dealership: "I paid 26700 for the car in August. I've spent close to 3000. Just in maintenance and have other fees in there. I really want to trade and car and work Someone who isn't as smart as you and switch them to payment. I could make a lot more money with the right customer. I'm really in no rush either as it took me longer to get it ready I never really drove it through the fall convertible season. But the spring season is not that far away and I like this car" That is word for word, from the facebook chat. As you can see, the online price was not honored and I was too smart and too qualified to buy the car. This dealership is a joke! Are they in the business to sell cars or prey on the vulnerable. Trying to buy a used car. Found a good one on Auto Trader and made an appointment to come see it at Antwerpen. I called to make sure they had the car and set an appointment to come see the car. Talked with Kenny, my sales associate three times before I made the 45 min drive to their dealership. As soon as I arrived he was like "oh man! That car is no longer here! They sold it yesterday!" And tried to sell me some other weird cars. Beware of this dealership and Kenny. I spoke with him right before I got in the car to come. Bait and Switch is name of the game here! I purchased my car over a month ago and they keep calling me as if I am still shopping for my car instead of calling me to see if I am enjoying my recent purchase. I haven't gotten one courtesy call. They even call me twice each time they call because they have my name and number under a different name as well, I don't know how. I asked to be removed but it continues to happen. Then right after Pete called looking for me at work and being rude to my coworkers, I called him back and asked him to stop calling. He then turned right around and called me RIGHT back and ask for the other person's name (Chante'). The only reason I have not BLOCKED them is because they STILL owe me some small repairs. Antwerpen HAS to do better. I only wrote a good review at first because my salesman was cool but over all I am not happy with the customer service that I have received. I went to get my tags which finally came a week ago and the lady handed them to me as if I should put them on myself. I guess she could tell by my look that I was puzzled so she asked if I needed someone to put them on. The guy that installed them gave me my temp tags as if I wanted them as a souvenir. I feel bad writing this but I really hope they review this as a team and realize they have to do better. It's one thing to sell a car but it's another when the customer refers others... It's a domino effect. The way I feel, I would never refer them to anyone no matter how much I like my car. I'm paying money I will never get back and it's like all they care about is the initial sale. Not for my repeat business. If Lexus Dealership had the car at my price point and mileage I sure would have went there. I'll know better next time. If you dare to purchase your car here, do not expect good customer service. The worst collection of dishonest tactics I've come across. They try to take advantage of unknowing consumers. Here's the list of the crap they tried to pull: 1) The internet price is not the price on the car. 2) In addition to that, they also include thousands in BS fees, including a "Maryland state inspection fee". FYI, they actually pay the state $75 to inspect the vehicle. 3) They lied to me about my final figures, jacking the car price up and including a set of fees they'd agreed to remove 4) They lied about the loan duration 5) They lied about the loan rate AND my actual final payment 6) They tried to ignore my request for a print-out of the final numbers before agreeing to anything 7) They printed the numbers in an essentially unreadable format to hide their errors. 8) They explained their multiple lies as "typographic errors." In short, avoid them. If you really want to buy a car, be prepared to review everything at every step, and double-check they're not lying to you. My wife and son visited the dealership after viewing an internet ad for an Acura SUV. Initially, the sales staff was friendly but the tune changed when they discovered that my son had his own financing. They actually INCREASED the price from what was advertised. I had to take my shit to DODGE, pay $100 for them to tell me all the shit that is wrong with my car. So then i called to inquire about my tags and instead of these bitches telling me the truth..."Well Ms. Spell until you pay the remaining $500 we are going to hold your tags." These muthafuckas are going to say "Well we are still waiting on them to arrive and they should drop on the 15th" which is coincidentally the day that i pay them the $500. Really!?!?!? They are bogus and i am trully convinced that these muthafuckas only care about selling a car. They are nice as fuck to you. Do you want something to drink Ms. Spell? Joe the service manager and his team at their Randallstown location like damaging vehicles when they are their for service, then try to half ass fix it multiple times before they realize half ass isn't going to fly!! Getting a hold of Brian Dolan in customer relations @ Antwerpen Toyota in Clarksville location is harder than getting a hold of the president! Shouldn't the customer be able to get in touch with customer relations !!!Then the GM tells me they aren't responsible for damage while the vehicle is in their possession!! WTH have you lost your mind Mr. Matt Apple-bee?? I have purchased 2 new vehicles from Jack and the Antwerpen team over the last 2 years and have had them serviced there also, needless to say you will never see me again for ANYTHING!
