It was around 4:30 pm on a Tuesday evening, and I was on the way to the airport to pick up a friend. I got nervous, though. My "Check Engine" light turned on, and my engine wasn't feeling/sounding "normal," as I noticed while sitting at red lights. I remembered that just the other day I'd had difficulty starting my car--a problem I had not had before. Was it safe to drive my car to the airport on this frigid cold Maryland night? I pulled over to figure out my next course of action. I thought it would be safe to at least have a car service station check out the meaning of the "Check Engine" light, since it was still before 5. I used Google Maps to find one nearby, and by complete LUCK, it seems, Maven Motors was just a few blocks away. They were so friendly and welcoming! It was just before closing, and yet they were super accommodating. Eli checked out my engine light on the spot and said it would need servicing. I told them I was doing a lot of traveling and wanted to make sure my car was safe to drive. Eli confirmed it was safe to make my trip to the airport, giving me peace of mind. I dropped my car off on Thursday morning, and they gave me a ride home, for free. They identified other issues, including a problem with a past repair from another shop that did not use the right parts! I thought the price they quoted was quite reasonable. Today they dropped my car off in front of my home and handed me my keys. How's that for customer service? They were quick to respond to my questions, whether by phone or email. Maven motors is excellent. I love their service. My car battery was dead. Everyone told me it was my alternator. I called Maven Motors. They came and picked my car up from my house. They told me it was just the battery and not my alternator. They replace my battery with no problem. It was $10 cheaper than another company. The staff was pleasant. Everyone was welcoming. My car was ready in a timely manner. I didn't have transportation to Maven Motors so they were kind enough to pick me up and take me to the office. I don't live far from Maven Motors , but I was very grateful that they were able to come pick me up and take me back to pick up my car. I was in need of an oil change. I asked if they could do the oil change when I was in the office. Maven Motors had no problem pulling my car back in and doing the oil change for me. My car was once in a serious collision. No one was hurt, but the car sustained some pretty bad damage. The side door was smashed in and there were a lot of dents and scratches that needed to be removed. A friend recommended Maven Motors auto body shop, so I decided to give them a try. They did a wonderful job repairing the car. They removed all the dents, did an excellent paint job, and fixed the glass from the window that had shattered. And the price was very affordable. Worst experience I've ever had. They promised to take care of all my issues and deal with the insurance company. I ended up doing most of the leg work to get my car fixed. They lied about changing my headlight with a new one. They ended up cleaning my original headlight, and taking the insurance money for it as if they purchased a new one. Last night my car window was broken due to theft and in an act of desperation I searched for an open auto body shop that would tape it up for me as it's supposed to rain tonight. Read all of the great reviews and figured I would go there to get my window taped up. Read the sign that it was appointment only on Sundays so I apologized beforehand, and asked if they could tape it up for me. He charged me $40 to tape up the window. When I gave him the money he put it in his pocket. Not sure I'd return as I don't believe it was a $40 job, and I'm just posting the review so you know they're not as heaven sent as you would think. Didn't want the job done for free but I didn't think it was worth $40, maybe $20 or $30 but not $40. Oh well, you live and you learn. read more

After i got my car i had a new problems with it that weren't there when i brought in for service. They messed up my transmission with whatever junk they poured into it. Very unprofessional and untrustworthy. Took my car here for inspection and they told me I needed to have my front and side engine mounts replaced. Eli (the owner or manager) told me he could save me money by using after-market mounts and he completed the job and charged me $350. It's 14 months later and the Honda service department tells me my front and side engine mounts are cracked and need to be replaced. I went back to Maven and Eli tells me he doesn't need to stand by his work because I don't take my car there more often so his work is only good for 12 months. His only solution to make things right is a 20% discount on the retail price of the parts and labor and it will be another $600. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOP!!! read more

Eli is the owner/manager, is always up front, polite, and fair. As far as I can tell, they have very fair prices for common car issues, like brakes, suspension, and body work. They service a lot of the Jewish families and businesses in the area, and are closed on major Jewish holidays. They'll tell you what's wrong with your car, make an extra effort to explain all the details and will work with you on the price. It just feels like honest business, which for me spells comfort. Don't take your car to any franchise or chain like Firestone or Jiffy Lube. What those places often lack are experienced mechanics that like their employers, and have pride in their work. YUP, no waiting on the phone for hours with your insurance company for someone to pick up the phone. To me, this is what customer service is all about. Insurance companies should work more with companies like MAVEN MOTORS because they would not have any unsatisfied customers. Eli had my best interest in mind. He worked with me to help me save money, he met me after hours so that I can pick up my car because I had to go after work to pick up my car. I've lived in Baltimore for 40 years and I've been through about 15 car repair businesses. If yelp had been around for the others, they would have averaged 2-3 stars - never really had confidence that I was not being taken advantage of (frankly I am not an informed consumer when it comes to car repair). Maven's helpful staff, as other reviewers point out, take the time to explain the problem. There never seems to be any push to expand the repair (oh, by the way, did you know your rotors are worn out?). One time, they actually recommended a less expensive repair than what I went in for. Do you get a queasy feeling when you have to turn your car over for repair, like you almost know it's going to cost more than you thought and you're not equipped to argue the point? This is by far the most honest and fair mechanic I've EVER dealt with. They tell you exactly what's wrong with your car and fix it perfectly! What's even better is that they charge a flat fee for their services, rather than rip customers off for a commission. When I was having exhaust issues, I was prepared to give the dealership $1k to fix it until I ran across this little shop in the city. With Maven, I ended up paying about $600 for the work! It isn't often that I take the time and give good feedback, but it's so hard to find a good honest car guy that I want to make sure to get the word out. I recently had some body work done at Maven Motors, they took good care of me from the start with a no pressure attitude when working up an estimate for me. They took the time to explain the steps they would have to take to get the job done. I walked out of there knowing I would have a pretty large bill which would normally make me uneasy, but having already got two other estimates (both for a higher amounts), I felt confidante I had the right company on the job. After they started the work, I called and asked them to do an oil change, tire rotation and alignment on my car. They were very pleasant about me throwing the extra work at them the day before I was due to pick it up and they made sure they fit it in so I could still pick up my car on time. I just bought a car from these folks two days ago. I knew buying a used car that the place I purchased it from was almost as important as the actual car I ended up buying. Given the overwhelmingly positive reviews of Maven Motors I found online, I felt really comfortable starting my search for a car there. Yosef was great. He worked with me to get a car I could afford, he addressed my concerns about the car I was buying (it looked like the previous owner smoked, and I am REALLY sensitive to smoke smells--he promised that if the car ended up smelling, they'd take care of it). He also told me about all of the repairs that had been done to the car (although the miles were really low, they'd replaced the clutch, etc.). Signing the papers with Eli was a breeze. Standard service for a year came with the purchase of the car (oil changes, tire rotation, etc.), and I'm really grateful I've found a place I trust to do the maintenance on my car. This was the worst experience I've ever had buying a car. The owner pressured me into putting down a $500 non-refundable deposit just to have the car checked out by my mechanic, who happened to be just a few blocks away and only take a few hours. It turned out there was a miscommunication with my wife who wanted to look at another car so I called Maven to politely ask if they would allow this, only to discover that they had already deposited my check. The owner immediately became verbally abusive when I made my request and told me there was no way I was getting my $500 back. I felt I had no choice but to buy the car but when I came in to do so, and asked politely that Maven remove their advertising sticker from the car, the owner stepped up his verbal abuse and ridiculed me in front of his employees and other customers in the shop, ending with the words "I never want to see in here you again!" even though supposedly there is a 90-day warranty. This was so stressful and upsetting I don't think I ever want to buy another used car again. read more
