The girl who served us was probably 13 and was very nice but the food suuuuuuucked. Who can mess up rice and beans. We walked in and asked for alcapurrias.. they ran out, then we asked for a coco Rico and they ran out... we settled for chicharrón de pollo and rice ands beans. The rice was under cooked and the beans were actually diluted with water and the chicken... let me tell you. It's was bone, skin and breading... no meat. My family and I went to this place and first of all it is a beautiful place. We had rice with chicken and rice with jueyes and chicharon, it was delicious. We happen to meet the owner and he gave us a tour of his property including his koi fish and the land. They also have weddings there. I would definitely go back. I can say the service was excellent. Antojitos makes the best mofongo!!! I got totally mofongoed out because I came here almost everyday during my short vacation in San Juan because of their dangerously addictive mofongo!!! Ay que rico!!!! It's soooooo good that I was willing to completely let go of myself and put on extra 5 lb!! I've tried 3 kinds of mofongos (pulpo, camaron, & mixto) and my favorite is camaron!! I loved the texture and the flavor of the fried mashed plantain, it's not dry like Dominican mofongos and the sauce inside is so delicious!!! I'd give 5 stars for their mofongos but other dishes can be hit or miss. The service is great, all the people who work there are so friendly and now they know me already! They were so accommodating and made mofongo for me for breakfast even though they don't serve it until after 11am. They have the best lunch special for only $5.50 but I opted for the expensive mofongos! They are definitely not cheap - they cost about $18-22, depend on what's inside. We went stayed at a nearby resort and was glad we found this place. Authentic cooking, tasty meals, and great prices. We went here numerous times during our stay. The serving portions give you bang for your bucks. The rice and beans, mofongo, asopao, tostones, salted cod, fried pork cutlets, chicken, and sangria were delicious. We also went to breakfast here and food was good. The people and owner are friendly and they really take pride of their dishes. The alfresco patio as well as the parking lot and garden really made this place feel comfortable. Every time we were here the place filled up quickly - not just with tourists, but locals as well. That told us that Antojitos Puertorriquenos truly is an authentic puerto rican establishment. Location is also great as it is near El Yunque and right of the highway. read more

This restaurant is a gem! We went several times for the cheap and delicious brunch options (you must try the Super Burrito), and once for dinner as well. Easily one of my favorite spots. Be prepared to enjoy the breeze because they only have outdoor seating. There is a lovely water fountain that the birds love to bathe in, very cute. The atmosphere is just delightful, with plants everywhere and the perfect combination of shade and sunshine! My first night there, I had the Garlic Chicken Filet. It came with salad, tostones, and white rice. Very filling and delicious! Our server was very sweet. The Vanilla Flan is also marvelous, and so is the coffee, believe it or not. Overall, I had no complaints at all. Remember, on "island time" you'll end up staying here for over an hour, even for brunch. Went about 10:30am and missed the crowd. The down side was they were out of one kind of juice and bacon. Boo. But they more than made up for it with the AMAZINGLY (simple) delicious oatmeal. Knocked it out of the park. Yum. The wind was blowing so it was nice and cool. To feed 2 adults with drinks for less than $13 (that includes tip), you truly can't get better than this place!!! Try: the oatmeal, the mofongo with chicken, the mixed arepa (PR biscuit) with shrimp & octopus, & the seafood soup. The fried cheese is also good, nothing special, but it is a local specialty. All in all we ate here no less than 5 times on our 6 day vacation. It was that good. Quaint, reasonable, good food and conveniently located down the hill from the hotel. We came to Antojitos because it was the lunch segment for our ecosystem tour. I tried the plantain and it was very unique, but I could tell it had been under the hot lamps. I had the fish, which was bland and very uneventful. The food was very forgettable. The ambiance was very laid back and fitting of its location outside of the rainforest. It had a very authentic barrio kind of feel to their restaurant, which to me was very fitting. This place was at the bottom of the hill from our hotel while we were visiting PR. We initially stopped in for breakfast and liked it enough to head back for lunch on another day. The thing to remember about this place is that many of the items on the menu are simple. When we had breakfast, it reminded me of something that my tia's would make at home. The prices were extremely low and I think with three of us eating, we barely paid $24 with tax and tip. When we went back for lunch, we could see the differences in some of the prices. Anything with seafood in it seemed to leap but the rest of the dishes were still very reasonable. My mom and daughter soup and they absolutely loved it. I had the fried chicken with rice, beans, salad and a pina colada to wash it all down. Everything was delicious and we were glad that we went back to try lunch. For those who are easily squeamish, be warned that there are a variety of small lizards and reptiles that run along the property and trees while you eat. They are pretty entertaining. read more

We happened to be staying at the resort up the street and on the way home (to the hotel), we stopped in for dinner. We would have gone the night before but they are not open 7 days a week. What you will find is a nice simple menu in Spanish and English that has Red Snapper, Mofongo, steaks, and other common native dishes. The prices were reasonable...we ordered: Garlic Chicken $12 Fried Snapper in Criole sauce $19 Mojitos $7 Corn Fritters $1 each The food was tasty but not amazingly remarkable. Their hot sauce had a delicious flavor but was very spicy hot. The atmosphere was pleasant and open, perhaps a little warm from being covered. Overall, I would describe it as cute. We went on a Wednesday evening and it was quite busy, which we assume were mostly tourists (or tourist-looking). They also informed us that they served breakfast until noon. Normally, I would give a 3 or 3.5-star for a place like this but since its proximity to the resort, it gets upgraded for providing an affordable and convenient eating establishment. read more

Since we were staying down the street at Del Mar Eco Lodge we kept passing this little place as we headed to the Wyndham to meet friends. I really really realllly wanted to like this place.. but it fell short. Sangria once again flat. The appetizers were amazing in fact in hind site we should have orderd just the appetizers. Hubby had the fried chicken with beans and rice, rice was crunchy and beans no flavor.. I had the bisteca and it was one small bit of meat smaller then a dollar bill, and tough, the good stuff was the hot sauce that I drowned my food in I love the stuff. The service was okay and from the looks the seafood soup or the buffet is the way to go. We had flan for dessert and it was good. The bathroom was a bit sketchy, no TP and it had a hidden partition (hmm) no handtowels to dry your hands and the door you can see right in -seriously no privacy.. like if your in that part of the dining room, you can see someone doing thier thing. jus.t saying Anyway, for sure I will give it another go next time we are in PR for the simple reason that hubby likes his food and said I should try more appetizers, Okay. This review is long overdue. Great local restaurant with beautiful outdoor seating! My family came to this restaurant 3 years ago August 2011 and we've dine at least 3 timers here. Great Sangria and oh yeah we had the mofongo, and it was very flavorful. The owner is very friendly and got the chance to get to know them a little bit. The owner has a son and my son became acquainted for every visit my son looks for him to play with. Excellent service & great quality food. They really take pride on the food they serve and it shows. This place is great if there are only 4-6 tables filled in -- HOWEVER -- if there is a line waiting or all tables are filled, be prepared to be waiting to have your order taken after 20 minutes, and after that you won't even get your drinks or food for an hour. Check this out: we were waiting to have our order taken after we got seated. There were two parties in front of us and another two after us. As we had gotten seated, my wife noticed the the last party, the second waiting behind us, snook over to the one waitress working and got her order in. I had to point out to the waitress we were waiting and the other two tables before us were waiting as well. She took our orders after I reminded her who was first, second and third and guess what happened?!? :) the last party! Would you want to hand over your hard earned money after you get shafted like that? I would not recommend this place based on principle and morals. If you don't mind waiting 2 hours, and seeing other served before you & being skipped without apology or care from the staff, then go here. I wouldn't recommend this place! read more

This is probably the worst breakfast that I've had so far in the island. A legit piece of advice for everyone reading: "This place is not worth your time or your money." Right off the bat, the menu is way too simple, menu options were far deviated from what a traditional puertorrican breakfast is supposed to look like. Also, most of the options weren't even available to begin with and yes...we got there at 10am. The waiting time was terrible since it took an entire hour to serve two simple omelettes. Coffee was worse, toasts were burnt, service dead slow, overall, there are far better places around the area worth your time and money. read more

We were a party of 3 and put our order in and 40 mins later the server let us know that they where out of Yuca mofongo, ok should of been the 1st hint pay for the beers and run for the hills!!! Young lady that served us was attentive and very nice. started with drinks. Beer for me and Pina Colada for the wife. Pina Colada had practically no liquor which i noticed happens everywhere you go in that region. Moving on to the entrees. I had the fried Red Snapper and the wife had fried pork chunks. Here comes a tiny fish - probably the smallest Red Snapper i've had. But ok, still perhaps it was yummi. No such luck. Dried and over cooked. How sad. The fried pork was also dry and overcooked and we are wondering why are they overcooking everything? Or is it that these were cooked earlier and have been sitting around? When i was walking to my car, a mango fell from a tree and i picked it up. Smelled sweet and ripe, so i took it back with me and i ate it. It was the best part of my meal that night. Prices are pretty good and perhaps for breakfast it's a great place, but make sure you skip this place for lunch and dinner. read more

A really pretty setting with a lot of charm, and great location at the foot of the road that leads to the Rio Mar resort. They serve a cheap pretty normal American style breakfast that we tried one morning (with excellent coffee), and we came back twice for dinner. Very authentic dinners - the seafood is more expensive than the chicken options, but excellent mofongo, big portions of rice and beans. Try the fried cheese appetizer. Everyone sat outside although they do have some indoor seating. The only knock I have against this place is that the service was pretty slow even though there were only a few tables of people each time we went. read more

We were greeted by very friendly and accommodating waitstaff and remained sated until our meal by the buttered tostones. Starting with the mixed drinks: if you order a mojito, expect to receive lemonade and if you order sangria, expect to receive fruit juice; there is almost no rum inside the drinks. To the food: Presentation is amazing. Unfortunately, that is the only good thing I have to say. Ordered un filete and the fish was still raw. The arroz blanco was cooked well, but the habichuelas!, Habichuelas are probably the easiest Puerto Rican dish we make because it costs the least; it is easily the first thing that you learn how to cook. Sunday's anywhere you go are the busiest day of the week. This has nothing against the waitress itself but it seemed like everything was going wrong here. We were the first table to arrive so it's not that we were late and it was packed mind you. There was no rum punch, no steak, and they had pork chops BUT we were literally told she had them but not serve it to use because it was not on the menu. Once again nothing against her. The owner (assuming) came in after an hour and picked up one dirty plate and never helped the waitress. God bless her patience and great work ethic. And sure you can say oh I'm American I'm use to fast service but there is a way people should run a restaurant ANYWHERE in the world and this is not it.
