The Clock Shoppe - My gutted Landmark clock that no longer keeps time. The chime mechanism is gone.

    The Clock Shoppe

I am writing this review to save someone else from heartbreak…read more In 1983, my father gifted a Landmark Westminster chime clock to me for my first wedding anniversary. The clock was maintained by an excellent, trustworthy clock shop in Toledo, Ohio. I took my clock there until the shop owner retired. After moving to Fort Wayne I needed to find someone to service my clock. I took my Landmark clock and another mantel clock to The Clock Shoppe on July 26th, 2022. I was told by James Hansen, the clock technician, that both clocks could not be repaired. He advised gutting both clocks of their chime/wind up mechanisms and converting them to battery power automatic clocks. He gave me a written estimate of the repairs, and told me it would be 6 months before the clocks would be finished. I gave him permission to go ahead. In October 2022, I called the shop and was told the clocks were still not finished and that someone would call when they were done. In March 2023, I called again. The clocks were still not finished. In April 2024, I had enough. I wanted my clocks back whether they were finished or not. BE ADVISED: The shop is not open every day. They are only open 2 days a week and it is difficult to reach anyone, so this time I contacted the shop by email. His wife apologized and said only one clock was completed, and I could come to the shop and get it. I picked up my Landmark clock on April 16, 2024. The clock had been converted and was working. But the chime quality was definitely not the same. His wife gave me a substantial discount on my bill and promised me that my other clock would be repaired, free of charge, and delivered to my home in a few days. They offered me no explanation as to why they took 1 year and 9 months to repair my clock or why they had never contacted me. When I got the Landmark clock home, the chime had no volume whatsoever. I was very disappointed. James brought the mantel clock to our home on April 24th, 2024. Today, June 6, 2024, the Landmark clock will no longer keep time. It's ruined. It's no longer a chime clock. I can't take it to any other clock repair, and I certainly won't take it back to The Clock Shoppe. If you have a chime clock that you love and cherish, save yourself the heartbreak that I have endured. Listen to me: DO NOT TAKE YOUR CLOCK TO THE CLOCK SHOPPE. Do not listen to their advice. Do not allow them to make any modifications to your clock. Keep your clock intact, the way it is, and take it somewhere else. I wish I would have never allowed them to touch my beautiful clock.

He came to our home and explained it might need more than a cleaning before he looked at it. Very nice man. Clock had never been worked on befor now. He took the face of the clock off to inspect the movement. He oiled the clock and got it working in less than an hour. The cost was $175.00. I had no problem with the cost. A week later it stop running I restarted as he had told me this might happen a few times until the oil worked into the moving parts. It ran two more weeks and then stopped again. I contacted tenor to explain what was happening with the clock. He said I need to come get the movement and take it to the shop. The cost would be an additional $300.00 more than the $175.00 I gave him 4 weeks earlier. Never discussed looking at the clock, just that it would have to go to the shop.the first time he came to oil the clock he was telling me how clean the clock was, he couldn't see any wear on the clock parts, that would cause the clock to need repair. Take what you want from my review. Just wanted to express my opinion on my experiance dealing with Tenor clockrepair
