I suggested the Waldorf Astoria in Edinburgh so we could visit the spa!! I phoned up few weeks before to book a massage & facial session then about 4 hours later, I received an email from the hotel concierge saying he could book things for us - including the spa with 10% off!!! Arghhhhhhh a discount!!! But the spa terms & conditions state I would lose money if I cancelled (so I could ask the concierge to rebook it with discount!) so we left it. The spa is lovely, reception is like a shrine to the guerlain products, there is a waiting room though quite small and they only had one toilet which seemed to be used by someone changing in there! We had got changed in our bedrock and put on the dressing gown n slippers that were in my room. First we had a foot spa, it was great, relaxing and lovely! Then we got taken to the treatment room where we had massage & facial. It was great!!! One of the best!! It is expensive but if you sign up to their mailing list, the hotel send out offers. I didn't book one of those but off the spa menu. We signed for it to the hotel then I told her the story bout the concierge offering me a discount after I'd already booked! The receptionist said 'why didn't you say!!' And reversed the charge and applied the discount! Awww so sweet!!! If you are in Edinburgh and wanting a beauty treatment or spa time - you are allowed to use the gym n pool too, I recommend spoiling yourself!!

Gel mani lasted 15 days until I soaked it off only because the growth was showing. Apart from that, one tiny chip day 9 or 10, zero peeling, almost no wear on the tips (and I chose a dark color!). I got loads of compliments on my nails. Mani itself was relaxing and pampering. Lovely hand massage, gentle but thorough cuticle care. Minx pedi lasted about the same but I removed it even though it still held up in great condition. They offer several options depending on how much time you have and how much pampering you'd like. If you have some time and the pounds to spare, you absolutely will get what you pay for here. Staff was super friendly and attentive. I definitely look forward to returning!

I am still scratching shellac off the skin because the technician refused to remove it. When I commented on the problem, the technician got angry with me for requesting too complex a service and for waiting to notice the spots (a French manicure with a gold top coat falls under the standard menu everywhere that I have been, and I can't see under the nails while the tech is working on the top of the nail). When I asked to speak to the manager, the technician said that her mother owned the salon and that I would not get anywhere with a complaint. Staff called to hustle me for more money the next day. I paid in advance well more than I have ever paid for the same combination of services, but staff demand almost twice as much money by claiming the advanced payment was only a deposit. They literally increased the price after the service because I complained. It is also worth noting that the salon is dirty, disorganized, and badly decorated with cheap tacky synthetics. The service finished late, causing me to miss a show. I was there for hours and they felt put upon when I asked for water. Most places offer tea or water if not wine and food as part of the package. And for some reason the spa had a blood and carnage military movie playing complete with pieces of people's bodies being gutted and blown apart. My manicure was nothing but carnage. Not typical viewing for a day spa! If you are performing a service on another person's skin, you try to create a safe, neutral space for all and make it about the needs of the client and not your spoiled ego.

First of all, the location was perfect for us. It's right on Festival Square. Just look at the view that we had from our window on the 7th floor. The castle view is amazing! If you're a fan of concerts, then you'll also be happy that Usher Hall is right across the street from the hotel. The Edinburgh Farmers Market (every Saturday) is just behind the auditorium on Castle Terrace. There are many great restaurants all along Lothian, Fountainbridge, and everywhere in between as you walk up to Grassmarket. The great service started immediately with Ryan. He checked us in and made sure we had everything we needed. He was a great resource throughout our stay. The lobby was always neat as a pin. There's infused water available. The club is also accessed from this 1st floor area. We chose the Castle Suite which was very comfortable and spacious. The lighting and AC controls are modern and easy to figure out. There were plenty of electrical outlets (adaptable), and all were where we needed them to be. The bed was comfy, and house cleaning was great in getting the room ready in a timely matter on each day. I enjoyed the chocolate that was left for us each day at turn down. It was always a different flavor. The shower pressure and bath amenities were also great. We were also happy that our room included club access. It was great to be able to use their coffee machines throughout the day. I especially loved the fresh orange juice machine. Just insert a couple of whole oranges at the top and it produces a full glass of juice. Loved it! You'll also get access to the breakfast buffet at One Square on the 2nd floor. We did try it out on our last full day there. It had a larger variety of buffet items with table service. I especially liked the stuffed croissants. I think the one I had was filled with rhubarb. All the pastries were fresh daily. You can order an egg any way you like it, but you need to ask for it. It doesn't have the same open kitchen concept like the one in Kraków. I thought the breakfast buffet in Kraków was better. Although, I did get to try some unique Scottish items such as haggis and tattie scones. It was still well-done. I would most definitely stay here again. It made quite an impression on us for its comfortable amenities, good value, and location. Marriott Bonvoy members should be very happy here.

Very clean room, classy upscale I love the shower control and the hot water Red nightlight around the beds is a nice touch Their breakfast buffet was pretty good by most standards, but I couldn't find some things like fat-free or low sugar yogurt Their omelette and eggs Benedict were nothing to write home about.

A substantial amount of thermal/water amenities, all of which feel very sanitary/maintained. I wish I was able to schedule a massage - however, it is completely understandable I couldn't squeeze in an appointment the day of. I felt completely relaxed after my appointment! My only note is that the aroma mist in the salt room did not seem to work (this may have been user error). Additionally one of the showers in the locker room was not in service. Definitely recommend booking here if you are looking for a relaxing day!

Mind you they can be quite pricey, but this has all got to do with the image their trying to project, as well as the various treatments they offer. As usual I haven't heard of most of them, but was particularly curious about the rainforest shower. Thankfully, I have a friend who has actually been to the Amazon (they come in REALLY handy!) and basically it's a room with showerheads all over the ceiling, so it seems as though it's raining in the room. Ofcourse if you'd rather just have a facial and a massage, they do that as well. They've got two pools, one of which is thermal, and a gym for those who'd rather "feel the burn" than relax, though I'd rather get in the sauna when there's that alternative.

Unfortunately as a recent graduate it was a little out of my price range and too frivolous for someone on a budget. For me however, a leg wax prior to holiday time is a must. Given the unpleasantness of the treatment it was (almost) a pleasant experience. In a calm, clean, quiet salon I was lead to a warmly lit waiting room and offered a drink. The well groomed receptionist and beauticians weren't as aloof as those in other salon despite and my waxer chatted to me all the way through as though we were old friends. The treatment itself was fantastic as the woman explained they use hot wax that they rip off rather than using cloth strips. This makes for a cleaner, easier and (marginally) less painful wax that lasted longer than others I have had. This is a more expensive place than I would usually go but worth it as it was a top quality job. They do give a student discount but I would say this is a place for the people of Edinburgh who have more disposable income than the average student. My plan is to ask for Zen gift vouchers at Christmas and head back for the pomegranate facial!

When i moved to…read moreEdinburgh i was in need of a beauticians initially for my eyebrows to be done and theres quite a few salons in Bruntsfield/Morningside but Zen stood out because of there tasteful appearance and professional reception service. I first booked in for HD Brows which by the way is so worth it. But now i regularly have a sports massage , myriad facial and my hd eyebrows done. It is a bit more expensive than what i usually pay but the service of the receptionist, the beauticians doing the treatment are of such high standard. I now use their products on my face and it is a big difference on my skin. They do block bookings which can save you a bit of money in the long run, student discount and vouchers to purchase. I would definetly recommend this salon if your looking for a real pampering session, they also have branches over in Hanover street and Teviot Place.

There's no after wax care (compresses, oils, concealer, brow powder, redness reduction/break out prevention). This especially is bad for those with sensitive skin. The atmosphere is also not relaxing. I wouldn't recommend for people that are really into their brows and want a good brow experience. This place seems good for a budget, quick visit, but I was not happy with it as a go to brow or waxing place. Especially for those with sensitive skin. First, atmosphere wise it was not relaxing. The music is electronic club sort, so I would not recommend if you want a chilled out, relaxing experience. Service wise I also would not recommend if you care a lot about getting a full brow treatment and care much about a particular shape. Photos and explaining what I wanted still didn't produce what I wanted very well. I lost part of what I had been growing out, after specifically saying I was growing it and the shape I wanted. Besides shape, the aftercare was nonexistent. Which sets this place apart from the better ones in service standards. There is no after wax care. No cool compresses for redness or pain, which is bad when you have sensitive skin. I left afterwards with scar-looking, puffy skin. In other places after care treatment has been able to eliminate that reaction. For those who care, this means you can't go on with your day if you care about not having rash looking skin in public. I personally don't care. But I didn't expect to have it look so starkly bad and last so long. It's also sore to the touch long after - which is not usually the case for waxes for me. This is not the place for people who want their redness post wax to be addressed. I asked for a cool compress and was told there weren't any. Also, for sensitive skin, at other places you can get something put on the skin that helps it prevent breakouts, like tea tree oil is one I've used. This generally makes it feel better and calmed. There were no post treatment substances for breakouts, redness or coverage. Only some minimal oily powder stuff that seemed to only make my face shiny and accentuate it's redness. I usually appreciate being given a tad of light concealer as well after a lip wax, brow wax, or even given some brow powder for the day to give the full benefits of a brow treatment - all things that help you leave the spa straight into your day looking great. None here. So for people looking for a relaxing, full treatment with post care, customized or well done brow shaping, I wouldn't recommend. I get the concealer/oils is for a more expensive-like place, but a compress is pretty basic and that was missing. I would recommend though for a budget quick brow shape up. For that it should be fine.
