Unfortunately as a recent graduate it was a little out of my price range and too frivolous for someone on a budget. For me however, a leg wax prior to holiday time is a must. Given the unpleasantness of the treatment it was (almost) a pleasant experience. In a calm, clean, quiet salon I was lead to a warmly lit waiting room and offered a drink. The well groomed receptionist and beauticians weren't as aloof as those in other salon despite and my waxer chatted to me all the way through as though we were old friends. The treatment itself was fantastic as the woman explained they use hot wax that they rip off rather than using cloth strips. This makes for a cleaner, easier and (marginally) less painful wax that lasted longer than others I have had. This is a more expensive place than I would usually go but worth it as it was a top quality job. They do give a student discount but I would say this is a place for the people of Edinburgh who have more disposable income than the average student. My plan is to ask for Zen gift vouchers at Christmas and head back for the pomegranate facial!

I first booked in for HD Brows which by the way is so worth it. But now i regularly have a sports massage , myriad facial and my hd eyebrows done. It is a bit more expensive than what i usually pay but the service of the receptionist, the beauticians doing the treatment are of such high standard. I now use their products on my face and it is a big difference on my skin. They do block bookings which can save you a bit of money in the long run, student discount and vouchers to purchase. I would definetly recommend this salon if your looking for a real pampering session, they also have branches over in Hanover street and Teviot Place.

However, where you go to get treatments like waxing, massages and fake tans is not a separate room; it is just separated from the main room by a curtain. Not particularly relaxing and it certainly doesn't feel private or 'safe' when all you're wearing is a pair of paper pants! Talking about paper pants, they weren't offered as standard and I had to ask specifically for them. Exfoliation: this felt about as comfortable and relaxing as a smear test. Fake tan: my resulting black feet were blamed on my 'dry skin'. Apart from being slightly dry around the heels, my feet are no dryer than your average feet. My black feet were due to standing in the tanning tent on what can only be described as white pedal bin liners that moved and became displaced each time I had to change tanning position. Overall a shambles. Thank god I didn't pay full price.

Can't deny that Karl did a very good job, and at the same time I feel I paid a bit too much. You might think what is too much? More than £100 I would say. Got similar service for half the price for highlights and cut. Maybe it's the norm nowadays, who knows. Overall impression: I felt a bit claustrophobic in there. Very small place, Lots of people: 7 Hairdresser, 3 Assistants, and all the clientele. It felt like that the shop overlaid bookings. Some customers turned up earlier than expected and my hairdresser had to excuse himself to talk to them quickly (what was a polite thing to do). However, I felt like there was not enough attention on one person, as everybody was rushing around, trying to do their job as efficient and fast as possible. There were children, lots of them. The receptionist was a bit too impersonal for my taste. It felt like I am a piece on a conveyor belt and am pushed through and passed on to get to an end result. Nevertheless, she did her job professionally. Cut: As mentioned, Karl did a very good job. He is very attentive to your needs and tries to do his job as precise as possible. My only note is that the aroma mist in the salt room did not seem to work (this may have been user error). Additionally one of the showers in the locker room was not in service. Mind you they can be quite pricey, but this has all got to do with the image their trying to project, as well as the various treatments they offer. As usual I haven't heard of most of them, but was particularly curious about the rainforest shower. Thankfully, I have a friend who has actually been to the Amazon (they come in REALLY handy!) and basically it's a room with showerheads all over the ceiling, so it seems as though it's raining in the room. Ofcourse if you'd rather just have a facial and a massage, they do that as well. They've got two pools, one of which is thermal, and a gym for those who'd rather "feel the burn" than relax, though I'd rather get in the sauna when there's that alternative.

On the way home from work, the lights were on so I popped in. These guys are open Tues to Fri late which is great. My wax was done quickly and efficiently. The salon was lovely and clean and quite often, they are able to offer walk-in appointments. It was £20 for a half leg wax (a tad expensive compared to what I normally pay) but a good job was done. I'll probably come here again and I'd like to try other treatments to see if they deserve my 5* rating :-)

This was a few months ago and it's now the only place I go to in Edinburgh for a facial, it's amazing the magic Hollie works with her creams and potions! Each facial is specifically targetted to your own skin type and particularly problems (we all have our own issues don't we ;-). The staff are all incredibly warm and welcoming with a personal touch so you feel special from the moment you walk in the door. I also have to say after getting a manicure there it was the longest lasting one I've ever had. I normally can chip a good polish within a few days but this one lasted two weeks without one chip, which makes it really good value. As mentioned in the other review the free parking outside is also a great bonus, they have regular special offers (follow them on twitter or facebook for regular updates on deals), and they have a loyalty card which means money off on future treatments. What's not to love about The Zone!

It is a bit obscure to find, but if you just find your way to the new Quay side at Fountainbridge you should be able to muddle through from there!
