Unfortunately as a recent graduate it was a little out of my price range and too frivolous for someone on a budget. For me however, a leg wax prior to holiday time is a must. Given the unpleasantness of the treatment it was (almost) a pleasant experience. In a calm, clean, quiet salon I was lead to a warmly lit waiting room and offered a drink. The well groomed receptionist and beauticians weren't as aloof as those in other salon despite and my waxer chatted to me all the way through as though we were old friends. The treatment itself was fantastic as the woman explained they use hot wax that they rip off rather than using cloth strips. This makes for a cleaner, easier and (marginally) less painful wax that lasted longer than others I have had. This is a more expensive place than I would usually go but worth it as it was a top quality job. They do give a student discount but I would say this is a place for the people of Edinburgh who have more disposable income than the average student. My plan is to ask for Zen gift vouchers at Christmas and head back for the pomegranate facial!

I visit Zen In Bruntsfield all the time in my mind you couldn't get any better! When i moved to…read moreEdinburgh i was in need of a beauticians initially for my eyebrows to be done and theres quite a few salons in Bruntsfield/Morningside but Zen stood out because of there tasteful appearance and professional reception service. I first booked in for HD Brows which by the way is so worth it. But now i regularly have a sports massage , myriad facial and my hd eyebrows done. It is a bit more expensive than what i usually pay but the service of the receptionist, the beauticians doing the treatment are of such high standard. I now use their products on my face and it is a big difference on my skin. They do block bookings which can save you a bit of money in the long run, student discount and vouchers to purchase. I would definetly recommend this salon if your looking for a real pampering session, they also have branches over in Hanover street and Teviot Place.

Thanks to a cancellation, I was able to be seen to within 2 minutes of walking in. I had my hair washed and massaged by Maxine, who was very sweet and personable. Karen, who I assume is a senior stylist, saw to my hair. She was a dream of a hairdresser, let me tell you. She really listened to what I was describing and ACTUALLY PULLED IT OFF! I have a WONDERFUL cut that I'm THRILLED about, plus I bought a leave-in conditioner I'm pumped about using. In all my haircutting days, no stylist *EVER* talked me through a cut. Karen would explain what she was doing and, informally, ask if that was ok with me before she did anything "drastic". Uh, YEAH! And I nearly fell out of the seat when she said, "You know your hair better than I do." I thought that all stylists assumed they knew more than us, lowly others, so that's why our haircuts looked *nothing* like we asked for in the first place. I had a lovely experience at Cheynes and I've already made my follow-up appointment. I had to give them 4 stars because the price was a bit steep (£50) and came as a surprise when I was paying, but I would have been fine if I was forewarned.

got a perm and cut for £135 and left looking worse had same thing before but this time looked like…read morean eedjit

A substantial amount of thermal/water amenities, all of which feel very sanitary/maintained. I wish I was able to schedule a massage - however, it is completely understandable I couldn't squeeze in an appointment the day of. I felt completely relaxed after my appointment! My only note is that the aroma mist in the salt room did not seem to work (this may have been user error). Additionally one of the showers in the locker room was not in service. Definitely recommend booking here if you are looking for a relaxing day!

The fact that this spa is roof top just says luxury to me!…read more It puts the spa into Sheraton Grand Hotel and Spa, and just off Lothian Road. Mind you they can be quite pricey, but this has all got to do with the image their trying to project, as well as the various treatments they offer. As usual I haven't heard of most of them, but was particularly curious about the rainforest shower. Thankfully, I have a friend who has actually been to the Amazon (they come in REALLY handy!) and basically it's a room with showerheads all over the ceiling, so it seems as though it's raining in the room. Ofcourse if you'd rather just have a facial and a massage, they do that as well. They've got two pools, one of which is thermal, and a gym for those who'd rather "feel the burn" than relax, though I'd rather get in the sauna when there's that alternative.

Only been for a leg wax so far but so far so good…read more I was a walk-in, work had been crazy and I kept forgetting (or not getting a minute) to book my usual salon. On the way home from work, the lights were on so I popped in. These guys are open Tues to Fri late which is great. My wax was done quickly and efficiently. The salon was lovely and clean and quite often, they are able to offer walk-in appointments. It was £20 for a half leg wax (a tad expensive compared to what I normally pay) but a good job was done. I'll probably come here again and I'd like to try other treatments to see if they deserve my 5* rating :-)

There's a great choice in Edinburgh for when you want to spoil yourself with a beauty treatment…read more The Zone came very highly recommended from a friend of mine who has very high standards when it comes to 'getting polished' so I thought I'd give it a try. This was a few months ago and it's now the only place I go to in Edinburgh for a facial, it's amazing the magic Hollie works with her creams and potions! Each facial is specifically targetted to your own skin type and particularly problems (we all have our own issues don't we ;-). The staff are all incredibly warm and welcoming with a personal touch so you feel special from the moment you walk in the door. I also have to say after getting a manicure there it was the longest lasting one I've ever had. I normally can chip a good polish within a few days but this one lasted two weeks without one chip, which makes it really good value. As mentioned in the other review the free parking outside is also a great bonus, they have regular special offers (follow them on twitter or facebook for regular updates on deals), and they have a loyalty card which means money off on future treatments. What's not to love about The Zone!
