RIP OFF! DON'T GO HERE! SO DISAPPOINTED IN THE OWNER/MANAGER FOR THE AWFUL RIP OFF FOR LESS THAN AVERAGE FOOD!! I've enjoyed Anthony's food and service here for many years BUT no longer will I return here after I attended dinner with a party of 7 for my 50th birthday this last Friday, July 15, 2022, at 6PM. They started the awful experience with no reservations for large parties which is ludicrous for any popular restaurant. Knowing it was my 50th (I called ahead to ask for seating) they seated us at the very back of the restaurant near the EXIT door. We were crammed in like sardines and could barely move our arms. COVID is still moving it's way through public places yet this place had people seated so close behind me that I was hitting into their chair and they were involving themselves in our conversations. The lady sitting directly behind me was hacking all throughout her dinner and it was grossing me out that she was literally right over my shoulder! Then there was the issue of MULTIPLE FLIES (10-15) flying all over our table area, all over us and I imagine these flies are all over the open kitchen area as well. Which means flies on my food. Ewww....So gross!! Gordon Ramsey would be appalled and swearing at multiple issues in this place!! The worst dining experience of our lives here! My friend ordered the CRAB CAKE Appetizer which usually comes with 2 good sized patties. NOPE! What she got for her $24 was a JOKE...(1) less than quarter pound, small patty with a little ginger. It was pathetic!! The whole table was asking if she was served wrong. Nope. What a rip off, Anthony's. You will surely be out of business soon with this kind of BS! Next I ordered the Halibut and Chips for $36. Another rip off! The fish portions they used to serve are half of what they used to be, the slaw served with it had absolutely no flavor at all, the mashed potatoes had no flavor and were hard and luke warm. I also ordered a cup of chowder with my meal, which is a separate cost (used to be included with the meal). None the less, the chowder was runny and tasted like any average chowder. I ended up giving it to my friend who had the one crab cake patty. She didn't even finish the chowder either. I also ordered steamed clams and they also had no flavor, were chewy and the butter sauce didn't have any flavor either. All a waste of money and so gross! My mother-in-law ordered the shrimp salad for $18...yet another rip off! She got a much smaller salad than they used to provide along with CANNED TINY SHRIMP! She said the flavor was so bland and overall disappointing. The other guests in our party also commented on the lack of flavor in their meals and were super disappointed in the portions vs. pricing. It's a shame because my family has celebrated many occasions here over the years and WE WILL NOT BE RETURNING. I'll go down the waterfront to Duke's Chowder House or even Frisko Freeze would be better than this dump...sad to say. The one star goes to the wait staff who were nice, attentive and just trying to keep people happy despite the bad food and horrible prices. ** Dear Anthony's Management, I hope you pay close attention to your reviews and turn around the state of your business before your greed and complacency puts you out of business. In one visit you just lost 7 returning customers. So, I can't imagine how your numbers will look like soon. If you are upping your prices while ripping us off with small, tasteless portions...maybe up your food game and watch your prices so your business doesn't take a nose dive into the Puget Sound like a sinking ferry! I love the food at Anthony's and the service is always great. My only complaint would be that when they are busy that the volume in the place is deafening! So we time our eating experiences for when it is not busy which means the service is much better. My mom (95 years old) and I usually eat at the shop at Point Defiance, but we have also enjoyed the shop in Gig Harbor, Boathouse 19, and Harbor Lights. I highly recommend them. This has been our go-to for all kinds of celebrations. 90 minutes after being seated, very limited server no food other than a salad. Couldn't be seated outside even though there were at least 15 tables available. What is going on with our food scene? Very unhappy! read more

Wow, the quality of this restaurant has gone down since last year. The wait staff have no personality. They take your order, and they don't give a damn after that. My wife tipped the dead fish that was our waiter $20.00, which I thought was ridiculous. I told him it was my birthday, and he just nodded his dumb head. I ordered the jumbo prawns, which was a jumbo joke, because there were six regular sized shrimp that were butterflied laying in a pool of butter. There was an ice cream scoop of crappy white rice, and six green beans for sides. SUPER disappointed. Anthony's really sucks now! read more

One of the best restaurants in Tacoma. We particularly like coming here during Copper River Salmon season, but any visit here is a pleasant one. I can't say enough about this place. I had ciopini ( I know I spelled that wrong), basically seafood soup. And OMG, so spicy and delicious I cleaned my bowl. Chunks of seafood, salmon, crab, shrimp, halibut and scallops in a rich tomato sauce. I can still taste it. And the drinks were delicious too. And the view? Most excellent. Really bummed. My family of four went to Anthony's tonight for my birthday dinner. We didn't tell the server it was my birthday because my kids didn't want them to sing to me. But it was supposed to be a fun special night for us. We waited quite awhile before they took our order - even though they weren't that busy. We got to the restaurant at 4:30. At 5:50 we still hadn't been served our food! The waiter came and apologized at one point to our table and the table behind us saying he had forgotten to put the order in. He said he would comp our desserts and that he asked for the kitchen to rush it since he messed up. Only the kitchen didn't rush it. And the waiter didn't pester them or do anything to show he was trying to get our food to come out after his mistake. The food took a very long time even after he put in the order. When our food was finally ready, we told him we needed boxes to go since we wanted to be on the 6:30 ferry back to Vashon. They put desserts and our food in boxes so that we could make the ferry on time. The waiter set the boxes on the table behind us so we could package our food to go. The hostess was wanting to seat people at the table behind us where the waiter had set the boxes for us to box up our food. She asked if these were our bags and when I said yes she said, well I need this table. Her attitude was just the icing on the cake. I told her we hadn't put our stuff on the table, that our waiter had. Also, there were other available tables. This was not the birthday meal I was looking to celebrate. We were all bummed out to not get to enjoy our meal together and eat it out of boxes in the car. This meal was way too expensive to be served this way. read more

Came here with my family on a stormy Monday night. We were seated right next to a huge window and loved the view of the ocean, the ferry, seals playing and of course the rain storm. My family ordered the all you can eat fish and chips and I ordered the 4 course dinner that included: shrimp cocktail, clam chowder, salmon duet and baileys chocolate mousse. For the drinks I had a huckleberry sangria and my dad got the huckleberry Nehi. My order was delicious. From the appetizer to of course the dessert. I absolutely loved every bite! The Salmon was cooked and seasoned perfectly. My only critique is that I did not agree with the type of shrimp that was topped on the salmon. It made it look like a cheap dinner and quite frankly could have done without the little shrimp. The sangria was strong and full of flavor. My family loved their fish and chips and the fact that they are all you can eat was a bonus. The service was great. Well we thought it was going to be good. Ordered the Fried calamine and there was nothing to complain about. Then we ordered our main meal. It was the fish burger and the taco with clam chowder. Clam chowder was on the verge of cold, the fish in the taco was dry. My fish sandwich tasted like a McDonald's fish sandwich with lettuce and tomato. The fries were pretty good though. If it wasn't so expensive I probably would have given the place a 3 star. Probably not going there again. Service was good and the view was nice at least. read more

My family and I love coming to Anthony's. The view is spectacular, the open kitchen is wonderful and the wait staff are always kind and helpful. However, in recent time the food has been tremendously sub par. I ordered fish and chips, a dish that has always been amazing from Anthony's but the portion I received was horrendous. Two roughly 3 inch fish portions with a dreadfully bland coleslaw that took up half the plate. I could look past the portion if they charged me 5 dollars and maybe spit in my face but for 30 DOLLARS i just about lost my mind, I was inconsolable, almost called 911 on the spot and reported them for robbery but ultimately I was talked down from it. Anthony's was once a great restaurant for quality food, ambiance, and service but they have unfortunately fallen significantly in the food category making the other 2 meaningless. read more

Always consistent. Always good. Great view. There's nothing on the menu I wouldn't order. The Cioppino and Caesar is fantastic. The bloody May's are delicious on come with a nice shrimp garnish. There's a nice open kitchen so you can watch the food being prepared. There's also a bar. It's a pretty nice place Update 9/2019: We're super disappointed. The Bloody Mary's are no longer what they used to be. They're small and mostly ice. I believe the recipe has also changed. And they no longer come with a peel-and-eat shrimp. Instead they charge extra for small grilled shrimp. The meal portions were also smaller. My wife's salad was half the size it used to be. It also lacked the avocado that I believe it used to include. Same thing with the Caesar Salad that came with my cioppino-it was tiny. And I didn't get bread with my meal which used to accompany it. We actually left hungry. Lastly, the prices have gone up several dollars on many items. Bloody Mary's aside the food still tastes good, but we probably will only return in a very rare basis. read more

Dining here at Anthony's could have not gone any better. The weather was beautiful and the views were incredible. Pleasure crafts in the water and a sailboat catching a late afternoon breeze. The Salish was docking and picking up it's passengers to shuttle them across the sound. The combination was an exclamation point on the outside dinning. The service was flawless. The clam chowder was perfect and our meals did not disappoint. We will enjoy this place again and soon. read more

Views from their patio are spectacular! Point Defiance is worth the visit and Anthony's a definite destination for a good meal. Family friendly and good for little ones to watch the ferry. I really like Anthony's and this place was one of my fav, but the last time I've visited it wasn't that great. The waitress decided to keep the change and it wasn't polite to ask for my money back cause I brought with me some guests. We've waited for our check forever and then we've been waiting for the change for a long time and the waitress just gave us a check again with no change. And then she left to some other guests. We had no more time to wait and since I was with my guests, I decided to leave this situation the way it was. The change was around $60-70 that's a little bit too much I think. Anyway, the food is always delicious and the view is amazing, but I was upset about this situation with my money, so not sure I'll be back to Anthony's anytime soon. read more

Anthony's came highly recommended for a nice seafood meal while in the area, and the experience did not disappoint. We enjoyed a nice lunch on the large deck during a beautiful afternoon. The view alone set the tone for what a wonderful dining experience we were in for. I started with a cold local brew and perused the menu for the best choices I could make. I really wanted to try the recommended chowder, but so I did not want to completely overindulge so it did not make the cut on my order for this trip. Next time I will give it a try. We started by sharing the artichoke, crab, shrimp dip with chunks of delicious sourdough toasted bread. Order this, every single time you visit, it is a must! So rich and creamy and packed with fresh flavors that were superb. My family members all enjoyed the copper river salmon meals and were impressed. I personally wanted the halibut fish and chips and I was also delighted with my choice. The fish was fresh and flakey and cooked to perfection. The slaw was just my style, crispy a little more vinegar and spice than mayo and sugar and nicely balanced. Service was fast and friendly and while, yes a little high end lunch, worth every penny. read more

Holy cow and WTF. If not one of then without a doubt the worst meal I can ever remember. Scenery is good. Service was good. But the food was practically poisonous. My friend had the worlds worst margarita and trust me, the man can drink anything including lighter fluid. Not sure if it was s****y tequila or s****y mix. But it was undrinkable. I had the clam chowder and it was ok. I think it was Campbell's. Then I had the grilled halibut and 6 asparagus sprigs. Expecting the fish to be 8 oz as quoted by the waiter, it was minuscule. $36 for this joke. My poor friend ordered fish tacos, rock fish. Well, should be called stink fish. Couldn't get it past my nose. Must have been old as the hills. I couldn't take one bite and neither could my friend. Disgusting to say the least and they should be ashamed of themselves The bill came to $76 for garbage. I didn't say anything because my friend said not to. Otherwise I'd have called over the manager. On our way to the car, we were questioned by a passerby who asked 'how was the meal?' We told him of our miserable experience and he voiced the same. Sad. We decided to dine in yesterday for the FIRST TIME since March at Anthony's Tacoma as we had celebrating to do. Everything went so well; they have it down to a science and I watched staff disinfecting ANYTHING someone touched constantly while we waited for our table. They even have someone watching the restrooms and whenever anyone walks out they're right there with cleaners in hand to hit the high touch areas and staff were very keen to keep a safe distance while still providing 5* service. We were very impressed and feeling good about our decision to finally try some semblance of a normal Friday night in this crazy time we are in, something we both desperately needed. 3/4 through a fantastic meal the man at the table across from us starts coughing. A lot. And while mostly "covering" his cough (after the first or second slipped through, uncovered, each fit) it was through his tubed hand, pointing the stream directly at our table. Not to the side where no one was dining, not into his arm, it was as if he had made a blow dart gun of his hand and his mouth breathing exhalations were the darts coming onto our table about 6ft away. Thankfully we had just wrapped up our meal and we're just sitting there, masks on, enjoying the beautiful bay view for a few minutes before we left. Our waiter sensed our discomfort (and visibly had his own), brought the check and we noped the eff out of that restaurant so fast lol. Please cover your cough, wear your mask when you aren't ACTUALLY eating and for gods sake if you start a coughing fit, I don't care if it's because you aspirated water, step the hell outside until you're no longer spewing your excretions all over your very nervous neighbors. read more

Wow. So I don't know how to review this place. I called in my order. I arrived and they were packed. You wouldn't know there was social distancing except for the staff wearing masks and gloves. I had to wait around while they answered phone calls. My food was on the counter the whole time getting cold. I'm happy I thought to check the bag before I went to the car because they didn't give me part of the meal. Thankfully they didn't give me a hard time about adding what was missed. The food itself was wonderful. That's what makes the review hard. I loved the food but definitely would not eat there in our COVID situation and now I feel like I have to be really vigilant with checking carry out orders. read more

I splurged and I am so glad I did!!!!! First, there were so many amazing choices it was very difficult to choose. Add to that the daily Galley Sheet of specials... well I had to ask for guidance. I'm here for a short time and I'm not wasting any of that time sitting indoors. There were plenty of tables outside. After being seated and brought water, I asked if I could move to a table that skirted the deck. I was going to be taking pictures and I didn't want anything in my way. The waitress was very accommodating. I started with a Fish Tale Organic Pale Ale. It went down nice and smooth. Now for dinner I was torn. I pointed to a few things that interested me and she recommended the Dungeness Crab Cakes. They sounded fantastic, though a little more, at $29.95, than I planned to spend. IT WAS WORTH IT!!!!! Here's the description - All Dungeness crab! Served with ginger plum sauce and beurre blanc. It also came with a tiny, fresh pile of sliced ginger rice and snap peas. The peas were lightly seasoned with green, sprigy things, and were light and crispy. The rice had some of the plum sauce poured over it. Don't get me wrong, it was a very gentle pour. The crab cakes sat in just a hint of the beurre blanc. Between the plum sauce and the beurre blanc, again very delicately placed on the plate, I was beside myself with the amazing flavor combinations. But wait! The star of the show... the crab cakes! I've never seen a crab cake prepared like this before. I have to say when delivered to the table, they're pretty nondescript. They looked like two Babybel cheese rounds that had been lighted breaded and fried. But cutting into that beautiful cake revealed something I'd never seen before. Encased in the lightly breaded panko shell was 100% Dungeness Crab. There was literally no filler and OH MY GOODNESS, the flavor was simply outstanding. I ate them slowly and somehow the crab stayed at the perfect temperature. Everything was perfect. The two sauces, which I used very sparingly, since the flavor if the crab was truly stand alone, imparted slightly different, delicious nuances to the crab cake. So, so, so good!!!! read more

Saturday, July 16 2022 I have always loved Anthony's Home Port at Point Defiance, Des Moines and Green Lake. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to dine out much during covid and Anthony's outside dining has been the one nice place to go and entertain guests. That changed last Thursday, July 14, when I took my Granddauhter, Grandson and his family to celebrate my Granddaughters' birthday on Anthony's outside deck. The weather was gorgeous, the service was friendly and courteous, as usual, but my food and the cost were entirely different matter. I have an eating disorder and only order the crab cake appetizer, which has always come with two good-sized, yummy crab cakes and a tiny little, delicious salad. That is what I expected when I paid $24 for them on Thursday. Sadly, I got one very small crab cake and ginger. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to embarass myself or guests. However, I am very angry with this rip-off. Today the price hikes we are experiencing in every societal segment are simply caused by greed. It has nothing to do with supply issues. I hope companies that rely on customer satisfaction will figure this out SOON. Restaurants were bailed out during the pandemic with OUR hard-earned taxpayer money and this is how they reward us? It is not acceptable. I will not go back to the Point Defiance Anthony's until they have a more customer-friendly menu. read more

This is a favorite place for my family and extended family from Australia. From the time,you enter until you leave the service is top notch. The seafood is fresh and cooked to perfection. The open concept kitchen is great and get all the wonderful smells. We go here at least 5-10 times a year and not just for dinner. Our most recent visit was on a Monday. We were informed by the hostess that the restaurant was full, and we would have a 20min wait. I had no idea a "full" restaurant meant multiple un-bussed tables and multiple other empty tables in plain sight from the waiting area/bar. I wasn't the only one who was a bit miffed by this. Compound the aggravation by watching other patrons walk straight in, bypassing the hostess and sitting at the counter. Fast forward to the waiting part. Lets get jolly! Tis the season for seasonal huckleberries at Anthony's. Feeling a bit adventurous, I opted for the huckleberry mojito. The bartender was apathetic at best, and had a most uninviting scowl. We finally got our drinks, after watching the bartender make drinks for everyone else in the dining room ahead of ours while we watched. The huckleberry in my mojito was a total mess, completely overpowering and poorly presented. The few sips i took off my drink felt like my straw was in a jam jar. Sickly sweet. The waitress was nice. Mostly attentive. The fish was hot, but the wait between refills was a bit long. I ended up sending my mojito back, it was too much. The chowder was thin and did have a lot of clams but for 8$ the serving was small and it was barely warm. The Mahi Mahi was ok, again warm but not hot and for 30$ it was a rather small piece of fish and a tiny amount of rice. I was still hungry! The family experienced the same, warm not hot food with small portions.
