Val was very attentive and took her time discussing my cut and color. I am currently experiencing postpartum hair loss, more so, thinning hair, but the cut Val gave was great. It was layered and easy to maintain being a mom of two. I'm going back Friday for my color. I am very excited! So, I finally got my color done by Val. It was great! She explained the process and showed me the colors she was going to add into my hair. We had to bleach my hair, as it's very dark- it went by quickly as I wanted more subtle colors. The color turned out great and Val did amazing. She also helped me find a shampoo to use and we found it together on Amazon, she also offered to order it in store. PLEASE READ BELOW AND FIND OUT WHY** The only times I do post on Yelp is when I feel that my experience at a business is extraordinarily phenomenal. However, I have never had such a bad experience with a business that it has led me to feel so compelled to report it through a negative review here on Yelp. Please continue to read to see why I was not able to utilize my Groupon here at this salon. I initially purchased the Groupon because I read so many positive reviews both on Yelp and Groupon's website. Many of the reviews said that the quality of the hair services were amazing, and with a Groupon at such a great price, I wanted to receive the same services. But, how can I receive the same services if I CANNOT SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT with the salon? I purchased this Groupon on July 12th. I called everyday until August 12th looking for someone to help me. I called everyday during lunch-ish (between 12pm-2pm) and after work (around 5pm, they close at 7pm). I got 3 answers after calling everyday for a month: 1st Answer--7/15: The woman told me she will call me back. She said that she was the only one at the salon and has a few customers she has to take care of. I was very empathetic, and gave her my number for her to call me back later. She mumbled and rushed to get me off the phone. This was at 5pm. I waited until 7pm (when they closed) and got NO CALL BACK. ---Sends e-mail the next day to the e-mail listed on their page, asking for a call back--- (STILL NO ANSWER VIA E-MAIL TO THIS DAY) 2nd Answer--8/4: About 2 weeks later, I got someone to answer. She said that she will call me back because she was checking out a customer. I said that I understand that she is busy, but after so many calls, I am getting tired of this and that I just want to schedule an appointment. She said she "just can't," so I asked her how long it will take for her to finish checking out a customer and I do not mind staying on hold. She said "no, I cannot put minutes to this, I will call you back," takes my number and hangs up. Way too much attitude. This was around 4pm. I don't get it...she just has to take money from a customer.... and yup, NO CALL BACK. ---I got pretty pissed after that lady giving me so much attitude. I continued to call them endlessly until they closed, but still no answer. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE!!!!--- 3rd Answer--8/12: I called A LOT again....Anthony (I think), the owner, picks up. And I give this one last try to make an appointment. I am going back to school (2-hours away from Boston) and he tells me that he is booked until September. At this point, I was furious. I PURCHASED THIS GROUPON IN JULY AND COULDN'T MAKE AN APPOINTMENT BEFORE GOING BACK TO SCHOOL THE END OF AUGUST! HOW IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE??? I told him what happened to me, and he seemed extremely hesitant to apologize. I even mentioned that I e-mailed them. He proceeds to make-up an excuse that their e-mail server is down and that it is posted on the website. I said that he "made-up an excuse" because after our phone call, I checked the site and it said NO WHERE that their e-mail server was not functioning. He was ALSO A WASTE OF MY TIME....no apologies offered or sympathy. The quality of their customer service is beyond me. I am not sure what kind of standard Anthony sets for his employees, but they are no where near the level of even acceptable customer service. It is ridiculous how this business has this many positive reviews. Regardless how talented they are, the quality of their customer service overshadows any and all talent that they may offer. Got my hair cut today by the owner, I purchased the Groupon with a local sale coupon - came out to $50. I got a little lost on the way but I found the place. It's located inside the assembly sports club. Parking can be tricky but try to go at an off hour and not weekend. I got my roots touched up, a conditioning mask and cut. It was the perfect color, I got an amazing scalp massage and the mask really helped repair my hair. The cut was exactly what I wanted, he asked me what I like, how I wear my hair. Also, my groupon included a single process color (a $60 value) but I was told that only covers the roots - if there's any color left then he'd do the rest of my hair. $60 just to do the roots? Are you kidding me? Anthony was also more interested in chatting with his friends (1 of whom had been arrested!) than taking care of me. He also was wearing a gray tshirt and shorts. Not very professional. No water, tea or coffee was offered, which is standard. He also spent a lot of time answering the phone. No wonder they want you to schedule appointments via email. I got my hair cut here a while back and had a decent experience. First, it's hella hard to find. I think someone else noted this, and they must get calls about it all the time, because it's in a large corporate building that doesn't have its address on it and then the signage inside is lacking. Further, it's inside the gym there, so if you're headed here, just call when you're in the vicinity to save yourself the headache. While the salon is in a weird space, it's actually quite nice. I had a great wash by Ashley and then Anthony talked to me about my hair. Like, we had a serious, sit down chat about how I normally style it, what products I use to wash and style, how often I blow dry and straighten, where I part it .. I ended up getting a basic cut, the split ends off and a little more styling. While my experience was great, I'm a simple girl and can't believe a hair cut costs $80. I had to mention the special they were running for new clients (25% off, I believe) instead of having it automatically giving it to me. I had a hard time finding this salon since it's located in a big building without any signs outside. Even after you walk into the building this salon isn't listed on the directory but luckily there is a security guard there that was helpful in directing me to the right location: it is in assembly sports club! Weird.. After getting over the fact that it's in a gym, I actually liked my haircut. The stylist, Marta, was really friendly and she really knew what she was doing. She gave me suggestions on how to cut my hair and showed me new products that I could use. Why 3 stars? Well..I booked an appt for 4:30 and wasn't seen until 6pm. I understand that a stylist left for an emergency and Marta was the only one working so everything got backed up but it was still frustrating waiting so long. I got a call as I was driving to the salon around 4pm that they were running late and if I could move my appt back a bit. I asked if 5pm was okay and they said definitely! So I killed some time at the outlets and got to the salon at 4:50 and the stylist told me it would be another 30-45 minutes but I could go somewhere and she would call me to tell me when to come back. I go back to the outlets and 1hr later..no call. At 6pm, I go back to the salon and figured I'd just wait there and she was finally able to see me. I don't blame the stylist at all because she was doing all she can to accommodate to the clients but it was definitely frustrating waiting 1.5 hrs after my original appt. I've gone to a different hair dresser for years and was super anxious to try a new place out. Anthony's salon is in my work building so I figured I'd give it a shot, even though I doubted that somewhere so convenient would also be good. Man, was I proven wrong. Anthony is a really cool guy who takes a lot of pride in his work. He's been in the industry for about 20 years and it shows. I went for a cut, and like a typical obnoxiously vague customer I said "I kinda want it shorter, but don't want to look like a mom..." and he somehow turned that into an incredible cut that is both tasteful and hip. I purchased a groupon for a haircut, blow-dry, and moroccan oil treatment. Having recently relocated to Boston, I was really nervous to try a new stylist. But upon entering Anthony's salon, I was immediately at ease. It's modern and clean and Anthony is both welcoming and friendly. We first sat down to discuss what I wanted to do with my hair. I told him a little about how my previous stylist would cut it, how my hair is very thick and heavy, and that I didn't want a style that would give me a workout each morning. I wanted something easy to maintain, but cute and updated from my regular angled bob. Anthony talked to me the whole time and asked questions about my life, but wasn't nosy by any means. I like being able to talk to my stylists and get to know them too, so it's nice that we could chat. As far as my cut goes, I love it! He took out a ton of bulk, chipped in some nice layers at the bottom, and instead of a boring 'do, I now have a more refreshed, lighter version of my bob. As I was leaving, I went to purchase some styling cream and leave a tip, but realized I had completely forgotten my debit card. I told him I was so sorry and would come back after retrieving my card from my house. Anthony was totally fine with that, and even let me take home the product, trusting me to call with my card info later. That's pretty awesome! I went to Anthony Capalino Salon a year ago with severally damaged hair from another local salon crying my eyes out! I can't say enough about Val and Anthony and because of them I am on my way to having healthy hair again. They are truly amazing! They really care about how you feel and what you want. My daughter is also a client and her hair was beyond damaged (Hair was falling out from a over-processed balayage that she went back to the salon to have toned down after paying over $300.00 dollars for orange hair and charged again $50.00 for a blow dry - they said it wasn't included in the fix of the color) I recommend my daughter to go to Val and Anthony. Val worked with my daughter's hair and told her what not to use while it was so fragile and how to care for it. Again, Anthony and Val are a dream team come true especially after the experience we had at a hair salon which was not a serenity at all. He styles my long hair and my mother's pixie-short hair beautifully. I have also had two successful keratin treatments from him. Anthony has been my stylist for 10 years. The salon is no-frills but intimate. There is ample parking in the Assembly Square location. The salon is located inside Planet Fitness. (I imagine once the new Assembly Square opens the location may not seem so "hidden"--get in while you can!) Before we started the treatment he answered the hundreds of questions I had about the treatment and put me at ease right away. A friend recommended me to this place after using their Groupon deal. I have been going to the same hair stylist since I was 8 years old. We moved to Mass about a little over a year ago, and I'm ashamed to say, I didn't get a haircut for almost 2 years (because a) was growing it out for my wedding and b) I was too nervous to find someone new!). After getting the Groupon, I arrived at the correct address. My only tip to AC is to put a sign or have the security guard say that the salon is INSIDE the fitness center, but otherwise, I had no issues. I would go to Planet Fitness and always see the Salon and always thought about getting my hair cut here. I always thought that it seemed like it was not a place for a guy and and for women only. Then one day I was desperate for a haircut and was in a bind so I thought I would give them a chance. Anthony already had appointments but he said he could take me right then and there. My haircut came out great but most importantly I was wrong about my initial impression of the salon. So many times you get your haircut at places and the conversations you have are so awkward. With Anthony its like hes one of the guys. We talk about the Red Sox losing, Fantasy Football, and even Video Games (Madden). **Disclaimer: I did not get a haircut here; read below and you'll learn why.** I bought a Groupon and called to set up an appointment a week or so ago and the person I spoke to was not at all friendly. He wasn't rude, but the customer service gene was clearly lacking. Fine, whatever, I made an appointment anyway. It is Boston after all, and we're not known for our warmth. Fast forward to today: I'm on my way to my appointment in bumper to bumper traffic and my car starts to smoke and shake. I pull over to call AAA and the salon to reschedule my appointment, as I clearly won't make it in time due to my current situation. The woman who answered the phone was legitimately the RUDEST person I've encountered in a very long time. She didn't state her name, was very short and extremely condescending, and seemed extremely pissed I was cancelling, regardless of the fact that I told her I was having car troubles. She not only wasn't warm or kind at all, she didn't ask if I wanted to reschedule, and then when I said "Thank you" she proceeded to hang up on me! Seriously?! When I called back to ask to speak to a manager, she said (drumroll please) SHE IS THE MANAGER! Well good luck Anthony Capolino salon, because although you might employ great stylists and some other line level employees, you're lucky you even get anyone through your doors with the vapid, callous attitude of the people who man your phones. I had the worst hair cut of my life here. First off, the salon is located in a weird location in a kind of rundown office building. The salon looked like it had been remodeled recently and would have been nice but it was dirty - cardboard boxes piled up near the front desk, scuffed up floor, dust bunnies in the corners, pen marks all over the front desk. I should have turned around and ran at that point. I was scheduled for a cut and color. I told the stylist (Marta) that I wanted a long bob with the back a little shorter than the front. She did the exact opposite of what I wanted, telling me at the end "I know this is not want you wanted but I think you'll have fun with it". It was basically a mullet cut and to me, there's nothing fun about having a mullet. I'll say the color was fine. However, when I was getting ready to leave the owner said to the stylist, "I think you missed some color on her face". The stylist was like "no, that's a birthmark on her face." I looked into the mirror and saw a huge smear of hair color on my cheek - obviously not a birthmark. She did her best to rub it off and in the meantime gave me rug burn on my face. I didn't even want to stay to tell them what a crappy experience this was as I don't think they really cared anyway. After all this was a cheapy Groupon deal. i've been thinking a lot if i should write this review or not, but i really don't want anyone to feel the way i'm feeling right now with their haircut. i went to the salon yesterday (02/20) to have a haircut. Valeria was the one that did my hair. she seemed very nice as a person but some points about my appt with her made me feel uncomfortable. for example, while she was cutting my hair, i was on my phone watching stories on instagram, my screen brightness was so low that i don't know how she was able to see what i was doing on my phone and even made a comment about it. i was like "excuse me?" but i didn't say anything, just laughed to not make her uncomfortable. and then it comes the worst part. when she made the comment i looked up and notice how short my hair was. i was so chocked that i couldn't say anything. i showed her a lot of inspiration pics of how i wanted my hair to look like and i made it clear that i wanted to keep the length as much as possible, just cutting the dead ends. she said she was going to cut 1in and when i realized she had cut about over 4in, i'm not kidding. then comes the next horror show, the time she cut my bangs... oh my gosh! i don't even now how to describe it! she got a HUGE chunk of hair in one of the sides and cut it so now i have bangs where i shouldn't on the side of my hair. also, the ends of my hair is SO uneven, she even made layers that are longer on one side comparing to the other. i really don't know how to describe my hair right now, is literally HORRIBLE and it put my selfesteem so so low. i just don't want anyone else to feel like this. it is so frustrating going to a salon, where you expect getting out of there feeling better, but you get out feeling awful and you even paid for your it which makes things worse lol. my point is, i don't know if valeria is in the beginning of her carrier or what, but i do think if maybe she paid more attention and wasn't looking to my phone instead of my hair she could've done a better job because this was the worst haircut i ever got in my life! besides that, the place was nice, everyone treated me well but i'm never coming back. i'm just counting the days for my hair to grow up and i feel better about it again! read more

First of all, this place is impossible to find. Both from the perspective of getting to the little cluster of businesses that it resides in, and then figuring out where amidst all the entrances and all that you're supposed to find it. I did finally find it (it's inside the gym), and service was prompt and courteous. This place is nice, although a tad no-frills. Totally ok, because I was there with a LivingSocial coupon and it was a good deal. The haircut wasn't bad, but I told her that I always end up with the same layers-with-bangs look and wanted to try something else, but she didn't really come up with much because she said my face shape couldn't handle it. While I know my face shape makes it difficult, I know it's not impossible! So I got the same haircut I usually get (long layers with side bangs), and it was fine. It didn't really "last" as long as some other almost identical haircuts I've gotten (as in, it was only about a month before it started looking kind of haggard and grungey), but oh well. I told the receptionist ahead of time I wanted the Ombre color (for those who don't know It is a two-tone color that almost looks like you let you roots grow out reallly far). I have no clue why they would give a new customer an inexperianced color stylist instead of their "color expert." Needless to say, I explained that I wanted a my color to go from my natural dark brown to a lighter brown. My hair is now brown to blonde with the tips going back to brown again. The "color-expert" even had to stop the stylist from using the wrong type of color. I had ZERO hair color in my hair so I have no clue what she did to make it three tone and very unnatural looking. Moving on - the cut was supposed to be a trim and she showed me how much she was going to cut. Somewhere along the line she went over the original cut three or four more times cutting about 4 inches total. For the ladies who have extra long hair, they can understand how this can be heartbreaking. The time for the color was so underestimated that I had to come back for the blowdry the next day because it was so late when she got finished. The blowdry was about the only thing that went smooth - no pun intended Having also already bought the Keratin treatment on LivingSocial, I was forced to give the solan another chance to redeem themselves. I dont know what the name of the Keratin treatment is that they used but it didn't work and I've had a few treatments to know how it is supposed to work. My hair is not smoother and requires the same amount of time to blowdry. As for the "Newbury feel"...No! There wasn't even a coat rack, most of the girls looked like they just entered the business, the profanity made me feel like I was hanging out at football game not a high-end salon, the ventilation was poor, and one stylist was even spray tanning herself in the mirror in between clients. I feel guilty giving the salon a poor review, but I have spent all day using Yelp to find a salon to fix what happened to my hair at this one. So I felt it was only fair. I have very plain hair and I am not very picky. I went into the salon looking for a bit of a change. I have brown hair and wanted to dye my hair a darker warmer brown for winter. The hair swatches the hair dresser showed me were black! And that is absolutely not what I wanted... so then I made a fatal mistake... I said maybe it could be a bit red. What I really meant was brown... I just wanted dark brown hair. Well at the end of a brutal 2 hour trip to the hairdresser I now have light brown hair with an aweful brassy orange hue. And the worst part... it was permanent! I should have come with a better picture of what I wanted, but I don't think there is any reason I should have ended up with a gingerish hue when I went in for a darker brown. I hope that helps someone else! Now back to looking for someone I can trust to fix it! read more

I created a yelp account just to write a review about this place. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! I went there to get ombre hair, showed her a couple pictures of what I wanted to get and specifically told her I do not want it to look brassy. I thought it was going to be easy since I didn't dye my hair in over 3 years. I had product in my hair for over an hour and a half and the result was awful. Now I have orange and damaged hair and have spent a ton of money on hair treatments. I regret it so much and I will never go back there. read more

I had a living social for a wash, cut and deep conditioning treatment and needed a cut badly. I was greeted when I walked in and offered coffee/water/tea. It was a snowy afternoon so there was only one stylist working so I had to wait 20 minutes or so. Once I was in the chair, the consultation I had with the stylist went perfect, sounded like she was going to do exactly what I wanted. Once it was time for my cut, she didn't do what I asked or what we talked about! Thank god I had the coupon because I would not have wanted to pay full price for the cut. I went here about a year ago and was so excited to go back because they did such a great job the first time. I had Marta as my stylist both times and she is AWESOME! I love what she did to my hair and I really appreciate the fact that she listened to what I wanted to do and considered my hair and my opinions when she decided what to do. A lot of hair salons make me feel like they just want to get it done and don't consider things like my hair texture, length, current color, etc. Marta took my ideas and tweaked them to perfectly fit what I wanted! I got a bob type hair cut with an ombre color and I was nervous it would look fake but she blended the colors so well and I love it! It took a long time and it was expensive but it was definitely worth it- and I can't wait to go back! Marta was very friendly and it was a great experience- and I can't thank her enough for saving my hair! =) read more
