To call Faron just a hair stylist would be a crime, she is everything you could have wished for and more. Faron and her staff are incredibly kind, welcoming and intentional. I not only got the best hair cut I could have asked for, but I truly felt held and received. During our appointment Faron said cutting hair was not her passion... rather her clients are actually her passion. And I truly felt that in her actions and presence, she did not just cut my hair, she truly wanted to understand me and allowed me the privilege of a window to her as well. She is effortless efficient in making you feel pampered but still conscious of your time. As a hijabi woman I felt my privacy was not only just tolerated but prioritized and held with utmost respect. She also 100% understood the assignment, she not only heard and understood my vision but executed it even better than I could describe. For reference I got a curly cut, and it is not always easy to get the ratio right for curly hair, but Faron nailed it. Thank you Faron for giving me the haircut I needed to feel like myself again! I had a traumatic experience at this salon today and because of that, I'll never go to this salon again. I asked for a collarbone length long bob, I showed photos that illustrated this, I told Shea "not as short as this," and now I have hair that's chin length (which was just what I told her was too short!), way too layered, and not even an attractive shape at all. I'm pissed. Shea did not listen to what I requested, and she was talking way too much during my cut - meaning that she was distracted. Maybe it's my fault that I didn't point to my actual collarbone on my body and emphasize to Shea *I DO NOT WANT SHORT HAIR.* Now I have to spend the next 6+ months growing my hair out again. If you book an appointment with Shea, please make sure that you specify *exactly* how many inches/millimeters you want removed before she starts cutting. She did this to me last time, too. Similar to some of the other reviews - Faron is an absolute artist at what she does, despite her disclaimer that she doesn't love hair. Only someone who loves the craft, the medium, and sees the person could so deftly and freely create a hairstyle that flows, shapes and complements the person. I came to Faron Salon because of the great reviews; I left disappointed in the service. When I described the haircut I wanted, Faron said that she knew how to cut it but she "didn't want to" cut my hair that way. When I asked why, she said it didn't match with her "vision" and what she thought was good for my hair. I don't live nearby, so I went a long way to come to the salon and book an appointment, just for her to tell me that she didn't want to cut my hair the way I wanted. Having known what I know now, I wouldn't have bothered. If what you want for your hair matches with what Faron wants for your hair, then maybe it's worth it. But in my experience, she thinks she knows what you want better than you know it, which is condescending to the client. If you're a new customer, I recommend trying other places first; otherwise, you'll just waste your time. read more

Not only is she a wonderful hairdresser; she is also a wonderful human. This was the worst haircut I've ever had. The experience itself was great, had a lovely time talking to Faron. I left feeling good when it was styled, but I went home and took a shower and immediately cried because it was so far from what I actually wanted. She never talked to me about length I wanted or layers - and I ended up losing a TON of length and gained a TON of layers. A haircut has never made me cry, but this one had me crying repeatedly because I just didn't like how I looked at all and didn't look like myself. I ended up going directly to Station 34 Salon to have it fixed (which was amazing, definitely recommend). Ended up being the most money I've ever spent on a haircut because I paid $90 here and $60 at Station 34 (discounted because she felt bad for me lol but worth every penny). Cannot cut Asian hair. Asian hair is stronger. She point-cut it so much that it became sooooo messy and it makes it looks like a China-town cut. Had to go to Vidal Sasson to fix it. VS said that it's a terrible cut and it doesn't make sense. read more

I have been going to Faron for several years. She has created the perfect color for my hair that she mixes herself. The shampooing process is pure bliss as she gives an wonderful head massage at the same time. She has cut my hair in several different styles and she always listens to what I want. Despite being a cleaner-cut guy, I still hit the same moment we all do: you look in the mirror and realize there's an unidentified dead animal on top of your head that you call "my hairstyle." When I get that feeling, I need immediate resolution in the form of a haircut. The equation is this: if it stays this way for over an hour, I'm going to buzz my head (which will likely give my Jewish mother a heart attack). The kicker is that I'm picky. Screw up my hair and you're dead to me as a business. All that said, I'm willing to compromise on price for a great haircut as soon as I realize I need one. All this background adds up to a wonderful experience at Faron. I walked in, was immediately paired with Shea who's a bubbly fun and detail-oriented stylist. I have some rogue curls that she subdued while paying attention to my cowlicks without me having to remind her to do so. All in all I had a good time there and will return. Two notes on why 4 instead of 5 stars: 1. I'm cool with paying for an experience, but anything over $50 for a basic haircut better be a pampering experience. Being offered a cup of water is a good start, but the price point should definitely include washing hair before and after + some style tips as a kicker. 2. The seats aren't quite comfortable and aren't nice enough to be there and not comfortable. Don't drop in here unless your finicky and risk averse with your style, but definitely do if you are and you're comfortable with the price point. read more

I'm amazed that there are no reviews on here for Faron herself. She was recommended to me by two of my friends after my previously favorite (but hard-won) stylist disappeared. I have hair that is difficult because it's thick and kinda wavy, but not reliably so. It's short/ear-chin length and mostly straight with frizz and several cowlick-like chunks. Oh, and I don't use "product" and I do air dry--zero patience for all that. Sometimes I even sleep on wet hair. In the hands of many stylists, it's a disaster: heavy superslide-like waves in the back of my head, cowlicks peeking up over the top, bangs in every direction. I got one such cut when I was desperate because my other stylist disappeared and a really needed a cut. I went to Faron afterwards, and not only did she fix it, but she gave me the best cut of my life and then two weeks went by and the cut got even better, and then still good/awesome weeks later until my bangs got too long and I went back in for another. That's the key--the really good stylists can give you a cut that looks good weeks after. She's also the most effortlessly cool person I know--not in that posed way, but in the way of someone who is just comfortable with herself and people and loves to make connections and make others feel as beautiful as she feels! She's expensive, but I believe that there's a first timer's discount. And an upside of the cost is that you can usually get an appointment when you need one. Also, the salon is hijab friendly--not that that's anything that I need, but I do appreciate the fact that she's ready to do whatever she can to make people feel comfortable in her salon. So as much as I want to keep Faron my hidden secret, it only seemed right to talk her up! --- Edited to say that three years later, Faron is still so amazing. She loves babies, which is so helpful since I've been attached at the hip to babies and kids since a few months after I wrote this post. It's great that they are a hijab friendly salon, but honestly they have no business claiming they are curly hair experts. This is the second time I go to them in hopes of finally calling them my go to salon but was left with a mediocre experience every time (haircut the first time and hair coloring the second). The first time the stylist sent me home with WET hair, no diffusing and almost no products, ending in my hair frizzing up in 10 mins. The second time, the stylish didn't listen to what I asked for in a color (gave me exactly what I said I didn't want) and also almost send me home with wet hair AGAIN until I demanded she blow dry it! Would recommend for a cut and blow dry but that's about it, especially for an expensive place to begin with. read more

Beautiful space, skilled and pleasant staff, and . . . HIJAB FRIENDLY! Yes, they have a cute little room in back for hijabi clients. I'm told they will even pull the curtains in the main area when male staff/clients are not present so we can get our style on with everyone else. I went in this afternoon knowing I needed a change but not really sure what would suit me. Shea listened attentively, made some suggestions, and proceeded give me the best cut I've had in years. It was so great to get a fabulous haircut this morning with Faron. She and her team are such pros. I was also incredibly impressed with all the COVID safety protocols she has put in place - masks, shields, plexiglass barriers at each station, temperature checks, and PPE for the staff.
