Recently I became concerned that the units might not be functioning properly and called to receive service. The woman who answered the phone was surprised to realize that the company had not contacted me to service the units in the four years that I had had the systems, as they should have done so annually or semi annually (I don't remember which). She scheduled a service call for between 9 and 11 AM the day before yesterday with a phone call 30 minutes in advance to let me know that the technician was on his way. Several minutes after 11 o'clock, I called to inform them that no technician had either called or arrived. I was told that there had been an emergency, and my service call was rescheduled for today. Obviously no emergency precludes a phone call. I learned today that they had been informed of the emergency at around 10 o'clock that day but didn't contact me. Today a technician did arrive within the two hour window but without calling me first. After three failures, I cannot recommend this company to other consumers. (about six hours later) I wrote the review above while the technician was working on my systems. I found him to be very thorough and courteous. He assured me that the company was reputable and asked me not to leave a negative review, not knowing that I had already done so. I am now changing my two star review two a five star review both because of him and because of the call I later received from the company's office making things even more right than the technician Guy had already done.

The AC was working fine. I had just purchased the house with a 42 year old AC and I wanted an expert to perform a checkup. This company was specifically recommend by our realtor for old AC systems. The first thing he did was turn on and measure the pressure on the system, a system that he cannot refill and connecting to releases dangerous freon. The AC and circulation fan were running fine. He asked me if the filter has been replaced recently, I didn't know I had closed on the house 3 days ago. I checked the filter and he came running saying why did you do that. Another round of you're wasting my time. Eventually he got tired of waiting for the reset to trip and he shorted the wires to force the compressor on. That's when he told me the system didn't work because the circulation fan was broken. I told him it worked fine before and he shorted the wires to turn it on. Again and again that I'm wasting his time. The AC system worked fine, then he moved on to the furnace. He said the furnace was dangerous, asked if I had kids, and told me it needed to be replaced the gas company would red tag it immediately. Eventually he told me that it's not worth spending a nickel to maintain my furnace and AC and tried to sell me on a full replacement, I played along just to get him out of there. At no point did he explain to me what a 4 psi refrigerant drop over 42 years means if I actually cared about keeping the system The next day, I had a termite fumigation scheduled and the guy from SoCal gas came by to turn off the gas, thank God. He told me to never replace the furnace or AC unless I absolutely had to. The Train manufactured AC and furnaces from the 80's are better than anything you can buy today for residential properties. He also pointed out that the previous owner had blocked off the fresh air intakes to the garage. Something the Season Control technician didn't bother to notice, probably because I was wasting his time. This was supposed to be an expert HVAC recommendation for maintaining older systems, and it was clearly a very experienced expert guy. The only thing I got from him was intentionally leaking R22, a lecture on wasting his time, and a hard sell for a replacement I don't need. And no information that I actually wanted about how to maintain the system I have. I'm also 2 days into trying to receive the invoice for the service. I purchased a Cooper & Hunter 5-zone minisplit (ductless) system 11 months ago and had it installed by a guy who's now MIA. Fast forward 8 mos after install and the units aren't working right. My guy's phone number was disconnected but I got through to him by email and he came and allegedly fixed it. 3 mos later it's again not working right and my guy is again MIA and this time I can't reach him at all. Then comes the knight in shining armor... da, da, da, da... Matt/Dr. Ductless! I found him through Yelp. I reached out and he was a plethora of knowledge and eager to save the day, but, of course, since he didn't install my unit, this was going to be a big expense for something that should've been fixed under my labor warranty by the guy that installed it. But since my guy was MIA again, time to turn to the knight for assistance... Matt/Dr Ductless. Matt not only explained all the different possibilities to trouble shoot my system and all costs associated with each step but he went above and beyond and contacted my manufacturer of the units (Cooper & Hunter) to get feedback on what needed to be done. He also sketched out and measured the length from the compressor to each unit to calculate the total linear feet being used by the compressor and then spoke with the manufacturer to find out if I had too many linear feet which could be burdening the compressor. That wasn't the case but we did find out that one of the lines was too short so it needed to be replaced and coiled so the total minimum feet could be accomplished. He also saw that I had a lot of build up on the side vents of the compressor which he determined was because my laundry vent line was venting out of the house just a few feet away and the compressor was sucking the lint in and causing that build up (something no one else ever pointed out... and I did have one other guy come out to check the system and he didn't catch that either). I had to have my laundry lint line rerouted into the basement crawl space to resolve this issue (my contractor handled that). So, after much delimma over the cost (Matt was more expensive than the other guy I called out but you know the old adage, "you get what you pay for") and considering the first time around I picked the guy who was the CHEAPEST, I decided this time it was important to pick the guy who was the WISEST and that was Matt/Dr Ductless! His guys came out a few days ago and the 2 of them worked on my unit almost 5 hours. They found FOUR LEAKS where the units connected to the compressor (the same area my original installer who had come out 3 mos prior allegedly had "fixed"). Ends up my guy had tried a sealant glue on the copper lines instead of cutting, refluting and rewelding, like Matt's guys did. They also cleaned the vents on the side of the compressor thoroughly so no more caked up lint, and they replaced the short line with the new required 15 foot line. And lastly was the most important mission, the refrigerant. My guy had simply added more refrigerant the last time he came out. But, I found out that the manufacturer requires ALL refrigerant is VACCUUMED completely out of the system before replacing with new refrigerant, which required 11 lbs of refrigerant (and that stuff isn't cheap which is why the other guys only wanted to add more, not replace it). Of course Matt had his guys vacuum out all the old refrigerant and then replace it with 11 lbs of the new refrigerant (think of it like a car and the oil in your car, when you go for an oil change they don't just add more oil, they replace all the oil). So, obviously this was a very long story, but, the good news is, it seems to be DONE RIGHT this time! If you want YOUR JOB DONE RIGHT, don't hesitate to call the knight in shining armor, Matt/Dr. Ductless!!! My system now runs like a dream! Super quiet and ultra efficient! We hit 96 degrees only 2 days after they fixed it and my rooms now cool down in only a matter of a FEW MINUTES! Pics show before and after of the compressor being cleaned and refrigerant being readied. I didn't get any pics of the leaking lines but even I could tell they were leaking cuz they were covered in grease. IMHO, Dr. Ductless rocks!!!

Out of the 3 HVAC companies that came out, Pure AIR LA ended up being fastest quote response, center of the pricing range and also was a representative for the manufacturer I wanted (Daikin). We opted to also relocate our entire unit into our attic, and while up there, also had them install new exhaust vents (and duct work) for our bathrooms. The electrical team, the HVAC installation team, as well as the dry wall fella were all great. And I was pleased to see Anthony was involved from quote to execution to finish. We had some minor electrical & wall patch work issue develop during installation that was taken care of immediately the same week. The day before they were set to come out I was messaged that they would need to reschedule. I was going out of town so I rescheduled for July 29th. A technician arrived almost two hour later than the time we agreed upon, but i understand with the heat sometimes jobs take longer. I asked about current rebates and was told I was ineligible due to the units being selected. I decided to go forward with installation. Communication with this company was next to none. I'm not sure if they have a business office or not as all communication doesn't start until almost 8pm. Days before my installation they are sending new estimates with different equipment. No one called to explain why. 2 days before installation they informed me they selected equipment that was not compatible with each-other. However once they selected the compatible equipment I would be eligible for the rebate. Sounds great, right! They also offered me a 5 year labor warranty for the inconvenience which also should have been great however no one sent me an updated contract. So as a result they told me they would not be able to do my installation for the agreed upon date. Information which I received at 11pm, the day before my unit was to be installed at 8am. I have already made arrangements with my HOA, neighbors my job. Lost out on money to be home for this project. And I will still be without air. They acted like they didn't care about me as a customer trying to set up installation. I can't imaging it getting better after install and need to call them out for service. Very disappointed! Their technician Nathan tried his best for me. But I had to jump off the crazy train. I understand there is a heat wave and techs might not be available but not having office staff to make sure all paperwork is ready when you have appointments booked is unacceptable.
