Anseo hits that sweet spot between being drop dead trendy and pretentious. Effectively, it's the Bernard Shaw for people who aren't out to prove anything. Good tunes, nice atmosphere and a varied selection of drinks that you won't find in many other pubs. The only criticism you could have of Anseo is that it's too popular. The place is jammers on weekends, so if you want a seat you'll have to go early. Actually, even if you want a decent place to stand; go early.

I'm going to sum this review up nice and quickly just by saying 'nah.' Not for me I'm afraid!

In the midst of inebriated conversation last week it surfaced that I was sadly in the dark about a very important genre of pub - the 'Dive Bar'. My American friend was horrified that my life had so far been unenriched with the joys the dive bar can bring to one's life, and resolved to take me to his favourite dive bar right then and there. The dive in question happened to be Anseo. And when we got there I was like 'um, yeah, it's a bar...' So I'm sorry guys, I still don't understand the difference between a dive bar and a regular bar. Apparently it's something about the 'lived-in' feel of the dive, that it could be your living room (albeit with a very extensive spirits collection and some nifty apparatuses that enable you to pour your beer straight from the tap). Is it something to do with the fact that it is dimly lit, seems to not have seen a spray and wipe in a few years and is filled with a bunch of guys who all know each other? Ok, well if that's a dive bar, I get it now... Needless to say, my first (knowing) experience of a dive bar was a good one. Through the haze of one-too-many Galway Hookers I got to know the bar, the vibe, and the people who choose Anseo as their local dive bar haunt. A note to the (fellow) dive bar uninitiates: don't ever start a fight with a dive bar regular. You WILL be asked to leave and never return. Not that this happened to me of course... (no really, it didn't!)

I see that some one put this in the category of Dive Bars. Now, i dont know what a dive bar is exactly, it must be a term that us irish arent used to but i think that maybe this is an appropriate name for this pub. This place is a Dive and its a bar so maybe thats a dive bar! its all very old and the toilets are gross. I would go for a drink in there now and again but i would never have enough drinks that mean i need to visit the toilets if you can call them that. yuk yuk yuk!

Went to Anseo for a few drinks - great pub at the top of Camden Street and probably my favourite in the city.

It is believed that 'Temple Bar' street's name originated from 'Sir William Temple' from the 'Temple family (you can see the same on the outer wall of the pub) The most iconic pub in Dublin, the Temple Bar Pub, sits proudly on the corner of Temple Bar and Temple Lane South. With live music from 10:30 am every day, this is a pub with a party atmosphere all day long. I was amused at how many people popped in, snapped off a quick photo or a 30-second video, and then left without stopping for a drink. Then again, at €8 a pint, and it's one of the more expensive drinks in an already expensive city ( and I did the same in 2-3 pubs), and that's fine. Doesn't matter whether you wanna have food or drink here or not, but I would definitely recommend (in capital letters), have one drink here. Yes, it's expensive (just 3-4 euros more, come on), but the vibe, that's totally worth it. I truly believe, though, that if you're going to experience Dublin, then you can't leave without experiencing Temple Bar. I had like 4-5 drinks at different pubs, and though it's touristy and "trap"- I would come here again and again. No other place has a "temple bar pub ' vibe. There is always live music, the stage is rarely empty, and the diary is always full. The Temple Bar Pub is famed throughout Dublin for its lively, traditional Irish music scene. PS: don't get confused with Temple Bar at the end of every pub. Its neighborhood name (Temple bar neighborhood), and this pub is Temple Bar pub.

Is Temple Bar an overpriced tourist trap in a saturated area of Dublin? Yes…read more However, with that said, I feel it's a must-see for first time visitors. I went during my first trip to Dublin and not again until my boyfriend and I went to Dublin together. As it was his first visit, we had to go. The bar is always packed unless you arrive as soon as they open. It's not longer after opening time that it becomes a mad house well into the night. They've always got live music and proper Guinness pours (more $$ than elsewhere). So yeah, it's a tourist trap but it's also fun if you know what you're getting into and what to expect.
